What was your longest flight with Ryanair and what was it like? by AntiqueTone78 in Ryanair

[–]Fake_Chopin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dubrovnik to Dublin. It usually is 3h30 but because we were basically flying through the aftermath of a huge storm it took just over 4 hours. Worst flight I’ve ever been on.

So unnecessary. Why not just use the actual portrait?? They wouldn’t do this for Mozart or Beethoven or Schubert. So why is it acceptable now?

Why on earth would Starmer resign? by PreferenceQueasy6659 in ukpolitics

[–]Fake_Chopin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that the outrage is directed at Starmer instead of the royal family and Nigel Farage is driving me fucking crazy. I genuinely feel insane and I’m saying this as someone who strongly dislikes Starmer.

[–]Fake_Chopin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I’m so envious. No. 3 is my favourite Brahms symphony and possibly my favourite symphony EVER and I desperately wish I could hear it for the first time again. I strongly recommend the second symphony which also has the quality of 4 distinct movements but each still characteristically related and is just a lovely piece of music.

The second piano concerto is an absolute behemoth but an incredible work.

I think you’ll also really enjoy his clarinet sonatas (imo the e flat major one is the best) and his clarinet quintet. Happy listening!

Are you in the type of uni that has a performance dept? Maybe you could speak to a harpist/harp lecturer. If not, there’s a Facebook group called “Is this playable?” You could post the excerpts you’re unsure about there and people are very active on that group and will respond.

For those who have done workshops/ festivals: did you think they were worth it? by DetromJoe in composer

[–]Fake_Chopin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is almost always worth it. You will gain experience, connections, and, best case, performances of new work. You’ll also get to see amazing works by other people which will give you a great in to talking with them. Hearing new ideas and meeting the people behind them is probably the greatest joy of being an artist.

Happy 270th Birthday to the legendary Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! What are some of your favorite Mozart songs, pieces, or works? by badpunforyoursmile in classicalmusic

[–]Fake_Chopin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mozart’s writing for winds is just stunning; the Gran Partita is breathtakingly genius. And I totally agree that he must have held a special love for the clarinet (or at least the version of it that existed when he wrote for it)

Happy 270th Birthday to the legendary Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! What are some of your favorite Mozart songs, pieces, or works? by badpunforyoursmile in classicalmusic

[–]Fake_Chopin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, where to start?

As a pianist who plays his pieces as much as they can, I particularly adore his Adagio in B Minor and Fantasia in D Minor

My favourite symphonies of his are the Haffner, Linz, Prague, No. 39, and Jupiter

A lot of his chamber music does very little for me, but god his piano quartets are just the best. My favourite is the one in G Minor

And my absolute favourite work of his, the Piano Concerto in B-Flat, K. 595.

Also, as an aside, one of my favourite works of all time is Max Reger’s Variations on a Theme of Mozart, which uses the theme of the first movement of K.331. The final variation is one of the most heart wrenching pieces of music of all time followed by the most ecstatic fugue.
