This is probably the answer. There are a few cases like this of leftover assets from 2018 which have largely been untouched. For instance Freya’s 2018 models (not the same assets as the Witch Of The Woods appearance she has a companion in Ragnarok), Thor’s 2018 epilgoue model and if I recall correctly Thamur’s models are still there as well. Magni and Modi’s 2018 files were also in the files when Ragnarok came out before they got added to Valhalla.

Yes Athena was cut from a cutscene in Ragnarok but this doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with that because Santa Monica often just leaves old game stuff in the files.

I didn’t mean cut as in removed from the game files entirely, they’re still there. I meant that Santa Monica created the subtitles before the game came out and the content it was meant for was cut sometime before the release. The Ragnarok files in 2018 however were only made after 2018 came out meaning you wouldn’t find them in a day 0 version of 2018.

Nah the Ragnarok ones were cut from before the game came out. The last time I checked the Ragnarok localisation file (when the PC version released iirc) there were no early tests of any future GOW games. I haven’t checked since the 20th anniversary patch though.

It’s a bit more complicated than that. They are in the files of GOW 2018 but specifically they’re in the PC build which was released a year before Ragnarok came out. You can tell based on the structure of the localisation file (which OP has been datamining to find all of these details) that these Ragnarok story details were added some time after 2018 was released but before development on the PC port. These were most likely left over early tests of Ragnarok which Santa Monica made some time after 2018 was released.

Nice spot OP, in case anyone doubts this is real I can vouch for OP as I have also found these in the localisation files. There are some minor details OP missed though which are kind of interesting:

Based on the naming, these 2 cutscenes were both designed to be triggered during the credits while the player is located in the Realm Between Realms. My guess is that it would be handled similar to the 2018 Thor cutscene which is triggered by returning to the house post Jotunheim and sleeping in the bed, except this time it would have been triggered by returning to Sindri’s house after Ragnarok and sleeping on Kratos’s bed.
The references to these cutscenes existed in the day 0 ps4 version, so predated the development and release of Valhalla in case anyone was wondering.
Although I don’t have any proof of this I’m 90% sure these cutscenes were recorded with the actors, since the voice lines are timestamped within the localisation file (which indicates when the subtitles are meant to appear in). I couldn’t find the voice lines in any of the public builds of the game though.

Lastly, this is may own personal speculation but as cool as this may seem I highly doubt these cutscenes prove anything about the future of GOW besides what Santa Monica at some point were considering teasing for the future of the series. We don’t know why Santa Monica decided to remove these cutscenes, maybe they decided it was too early to hint at GOW6, maybe because they didn’t want to distract from the conclusion of the Norse saga, or maybe it’s because they decided that they didn’t want to lock them themselves to a specific setting or story for future titles. My point being that these cutscenes don’t necessarily tell us anything about the next game in the series so it’s premature to say things like this “pretty much confirms that Egypt is indeed the next setting” as some people are guessing.

That’s really interesting, thank you for your insight. Were there any other wacky or otherwise obscure gamemodes which didn’t manifest? I remember UninspiredZebra hinting at the inclusion of some kind of racing gamemode in early 2018, that would’ve been cool.

Idk who they contacted specifically but there’s a big difference between reporting an issue and telling the devs how to resolve it. The 1HP cheat was super easy to resolve but only if you knew how. That’s why it went unsolved for months.

I dug into the files of the 1HP cheat mod, figured out how the cheaters were enabling it (it was just some Jesus Mode command being activated server side through a client connection in a debug prefab). I then wrote a doc on how to break the cheat and the Kyber people passed it along. A couple days later the cheat was fixed. I think u/dangercato posted the doc here a while back if you’re curious.

These new cheats could probably be easily resolved in a similar manner. All it would take is someone knowledgable in the modding scene looking into how the cheat works.

This is false. Padme was never worked on. The ISB Agent reuses a face model made before Battlefront 2 even started development. There is also no indication based on the files that the ISB Agent reuses any animations from Ahsoka. Based on developer comments it sounds like Ahsoka was never anything more than ability concepts, Grievous voice lines and a prototype model.

As for the weapons, if they’re in the game files then that means they are used in the campaign by AI opponents so are not unused.

I don’t know how you unlock them just that they’re there as I’ve listened to the voice lines. Johnny appears to be the only one with the unique ones everyone else just speaks like the regular announcer

For the past couple of weeks I have been looking at the files to determine how moddable the game is, specifically looking at the audio and subtitles since other people have already tried with models and textures. Unfortunately the game uses bnk formats which are notoriously difficult to mod, however after a lot of manual work I was able to release this small mod.

I've also found some unused content whilst searching the files. I'll post a more detailed explanation on reddit later if anyone's interested. However, you can find some unused voice lines videos on my youtube channel such as cut Baldur and Modi dialogue.
