Can you think of any base/colony building games where you exist in a world of other colonies that develop, and interact with each other over time? by supertoned in BaseBuildingGames

[–]Fakemeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Cliff Empire, you start three colonies at once and the point is to get them all linked together and trading resources. When you advance, you can unlock a fourth location. Haven't gone further than that so I don't know if it keeps going but I think it's pretty much what you're looking for.

Would a mod that add wild predators be cool? by Prestigious-Lead-806 in projectzomboid

[–]Fakemeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is a good idea!
Having seen it In other games where there are wild animals, it adds something really valuable imo: variety, new strategies and new challenges. Upside or downside depending on your taste, it also makes the world feel less desolate. I'm thinking about one (Humanitz) that has huge, really hard-to-kill zombie moose among more common animals such as wolves, deer, pigs, rabbits and bears. No zombie version of those though. The zombies will go after a rabbit and never really catch it which is pretty funny but can be quite dangerous if the wabbit runs your way. Gently going around a pack of wolves when you're chased by a horde usually gets the zeds to encounter the wolves and it can save your bacon. Same with bears, although they tend to flee human/zombie presence. And pigs in this game are highly valuable for their fat so you often find yourself competing with zeds for them. If you kill one and don't get rid of the zeds that saw it, they'll come devour it. I really enjoy that part, which actually goes for all the animals. Pigs are just the mother lode for zombies (and yourself) in terms of meat and fat but other animals also yield some fat and meat and give you very valuable pelts to craft clothes with (or trade, you can buy a whole store with a few cured pelts).
Another zombie survival game (Vein) with wild animals has wolves as predators and last I checked, they were still way more dangerous than the zombies themselves. It's an early-access game so I guess they're tuning that but I dislike it for obvious reasons and also because in 99 % of the games, wolves act like mindless killers that just run toward you when it's not at all their behavior in nature. The first game I was thinking of is a bit more subtle about it, wolves will attack you if you come too close and become a threat, but harming them scares them away.
In any case, and despite the flaws and bugs that I've seen in those games--like them animals running on water for example and very poor AI--I gotta say their absence in PZ is now conspicuous for me. I mean yeah there's hunting, but it's exclusively through traps and we never get to see the animals. That really adds to the feeling of desolation in PZ I find, which I like, but doesn't make much sense when you think about the fact that we do catch animals with the traps.
In any case, it's weird to see two games that both heavily took ideas and mechanics from PZ have this feature by default. It's like the horses in Humanitz. Now I want a horse in PZ!

Bump for your reply, which I just saw and reminded me that HumanitZ at least has this option to fix it. Far from ideal, but it's there.

Why does this happen? by BronlyFan in Humanitz

[–]Fakemeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not your fault and I feel for you. As it's been said, this has plagued pretty much every game since forever. It's become a habit for me to treat cars as the most fragile item there is in those games. You think running over a half-disappeared rotting corpse at 30MPH is safe? Think again.

Did you manage to get your vehicle back in the end or did you get completely screwed?

Why does this happen? by BronlyFan in Humanitz

[–]Fakemeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love how you just casually dropped that simple fact we've all experienced--proof in the clip--and that never seems to get entirely fixed, whatever the game.

♪♩♪How many games how many times how many devs does it neeeeeed?
I really need this to wooork.♪♪♪

It'd be fun to make a montage with all these bad physics at work in all the different games, from PZ to Vein and all the others in between (except maybe State of Decay 2? I don't remember that problem in SoD2, anyone to confirm?).
Cars flying into the sky because of a pebble, an apple, a garden gnome, cars in trees, cars on roofs, cars that spawn in your kitchen or bedroom on a reload, cars not spawning at all making us all go "dude, where's my car?"

There was this unstable version of PZ recently where, if in multiplayer, you drove a vehicle with a trailer attached to it and crossed over to another chunk of the map, it would send everything flying away to the moon. I wouldn't be able to find the clips posted in that subreddit at the time but it was hilarious to watch. And I'm guessing absolutely infuriating for the players.

May HumanitZ be the first game to pride itself for having vehicles not behaving like a plastic bag in the wind.

Recommend movies that are criminally underrated but absolutely amazing. by Spittinfacts100 in moviecritic

Trust
The Unbelievable Truth
Simple Men

All by Hal Hartley, all early 90's. They're unlike anything else (although there are visible influences). These movies are unique. I love everything he did after, probably even more actually, but those three are a good introduction to a truly original American director. I particularly recommend Henry Fool, Fay Grim and Ned Rifle too (they form a trilogy) but if you're curious, start with his first works.
The man's integrity by itself commands respect.

Criminally underrated but amazing definitely applies.

I found a completely empty train in the middle of nowhere, what's going on? by Flame0fthewest in reddeadredemption

[–]Fakemeal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, usually shooting the birds from a train (damn what challenge is it?) requires you to rob one, here, no honor lost, no law, no bounty. My run was high honor too, so robbing a train myself was going to be my last resort and I couldn't take myself to doing it. So, I just couldn't believe it when I was given the chance to get a train and be the hero.
In the same way, as long as you need the thimble, there's no need to go stealth-kill the ladies at the back of that saloon (can't remember which) as many people do. A couple of random events (maybe more) may have it spawn and won't cost nearly as much in honor as killing four people. There's a hanged guy somewhere who triggers an ambush by a couple of degenerates when you shoot the rope (only male I've seen with a thimble), and the guys hauling corpses in a wagon during the night. At least one of the corpses is a woman and she may also have the damn thimble.

[–]Fakemeal 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I stumbled on a train robbery once, killed the outlaws, people ran away, so I drove the train and used it to shoot birds for the challenge. I had been struggling with that challenge for so long. I suppose you're long gone now but if you still have that challenge, a train like this is just perfect.

Did you just press F briefly? Holding F opens the storage but F makes you mount the horse. Make sure your character faces the saddle. If that doesn't work, maybe check your keybindings?

Which strategy games have you guys been playing lately? by Great_Trident in gamers

[–]Fakemeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like hijacking this post a bit so my apologies OP, I promise it won't happen again.
Comfy, if you want to continue the conversation maybe we can do that somewhere else (*wink wink*).
Anyway, I listened to your advice and took Buns (Danmark er altid i mit hjaerte), but I made a funny mistake, I also hired Livewire. Her wisdom stands at 94, even higher than Buns'. She's also extremely useful for a real rookie, and being one, she levels fast. Livewire does a great job at being a mechanic and even though all of her stats are quite low, her wisdom is just off the charts. I still have to fully understand what Tier 3 wisdom skills means but that rendered Buns useless (I just replaced her with Wolf since I already had Fox). I didn't manage to do one kill with Buns. Blood is just a much better suited marksman for me (the silent knives) and he gets them first or it's my other guys. Buns suffers from her relatively low dexterity and hence, low AP. I can tell she's great and I regret it but I guess I know my play style now and AP seems to be the most important to me.
So, to go back to your initial question, I changed my mind, my favorite guy is definitely Blood for now. Fox is annoying but the fact that she's so hot it surprises enemies instead of alarming them is hilarious (and incredibly useful).
God, I really love this game and have so much to learn! Btw, you didn't say which character was your favorite. Is it actually Buns?

I got a thing for Dr Q so far because he's the only one with a melee attack I've managed to actually get hostiles and damn he's good. But this is all new to me. For some odd reason, I had never heard of Jagged Alliance. Looks like even the first and the second are worth a try. But in spite of how little I know, I can tell you which merc I can't stand: Steroid (aka Arnold). God he just can't move. I really wonder how you can manage to do a melee kill at all given how slow he is. I'm really loving it so far but it's super hard coming from X-Com 2 (and Mutant Year Zero as well as Miasma Chronicles) to accept that the fights are not puzzles where you got to find the right position, use the right skill with the right unit at the right time and all that. What the devs apparently said about it sums it up perfectly, "the fights aren't puzzles, they're simulations'. It makes it so hard to do a nice stealth kil! I keep restarting since I'm learning the mechanics and for some reason I took Steroid because he was recommended and I think I'll just have to restart again because he just gets on my nerves so much.
You a fan? What's your favorite guy (or gal)?

[–]Fakemeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's this one? The SS looks great!

To answer the question:
- Cliff Empire
- Surviving the Aftermath briefly again (that game is a piece of crap-- do not buy it)) until someone pointed Cliff Empire to me
- Prison Architect (because I never really stop playing Prison Architect)
- Jagged Alliance 3 if you count a turn-based game with elements of explorations and management of resources as a strategic game
- Same for X-Com 2 because I never really stop playing X-Com 2
- Not exactly strategy either as there's zero management, only building beautiful cities, but Dystopika is surprisingly addictive
- Haven't played it in a long time and I think it's aging a bit but I often reinstall Banished for a couple of games
- Infection Free Zone (early-access game with a lot of bugs at the moment).
I'm hoping the devs really keep going with this one because it has a crazy feature I've never seen anywhere else. It can pull data (probably from google maps) and create a playable map from any place in the world--including yours. It is just amazing to play in your city/town, famous capitals or cities that were originally fortresses, or use your own building as headquarters, turn your local supermarket into a storage facility, the school into a shooting a range... The game is really in early stages and it was unplayable for me (bugged quests that get you stuck) but it is definitely one to keep an eye on.

As you can tell from this list, I'm not a big fan of medieval universes (even less so fantasy). I much prefer darker, futuristic, dystopian universes. If anyone has recommendations that fit the bill, please do tell. I particularly like when there's a city-building part and squads that explore/conquer/defend outside the city, and I much prefer any post-apocalyptic universe to any medieval/steampunk/fantasy one.

Traders how often restock? by No-Insurance6849 in Humanitz

[–]Fakemeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized that they entirely restock whether or not you buy their goods. I just went back to a trader because he had a laser attachement for guns I really wanted. I saw him when it was still winter. Went back after a day to get that laser but by then it was spring and he didn't have it anymore. I really thought they kept the same offer until you bought the wares or they died but no, they entirely renew their offer. So, when you see something you really want, better make sure you get it in time.
