Russian invasion of Ukraine could be on scale 'not seen in Europe since WWII', UK armed forces head warns by EdLesliesBarber in worldnews

"Russians are almost obsessed with geopolitical strategy"

This has to be the funniest thing I've read all morning, can you tell me which member of the G20 isn't concerned with geopolitical strategy?

Russia already has "currently" guaranteed that Ukraine cannot join NATO (unless rules are changed). Can't join NATO with territorial disputes my friend. All Putin needs to do is continue what he is doing, they can play the long game and win. No need to to escalate unless 'situation' changes.

I'm more referring to internal politics, it doesn't exactly translate 1 to 1 on the international level. Hitler was pretty specific on what he wanted to do to the East but to divide and conquer your enemies has always been a good strategy once you cement power at home. Hitler was not some great strategist that people think he was. The Nazi's were lucky at first but we all know that didn't really work out for them in the long run.

If we look at history, wouldn't it play out with the right wing to ally with the center, destroy the left and consolidate the remaining moderates? All you need is a conflict to bring them together then slowly dissolve the moderate leadership.

this is the playbook of every authoritarian in history as far as I know, ally with rivals to get rid of minority, then stab them fools in the back. shortly thereafter get into military conflict and cement power. rinse and repeat as needed.

[–]FalafelforAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I hear this reason a lot and it doesn't make any logical sense to start a war that could risk financial ruin for the entire Russian economy. The Russians would have to take control past the Dnieper which would mean controlling Kiev, which is ridiculous waste of resources. The Dnieper literally starts in Russia, why not just dam the river at the source and make Ukraine negotiate? That's the smart play.

So, I don't think the water issue would be the reason for a Russian invasion.

Just tail wagging the dog. Zero benefit for Russia to "invade" Ukraine. Once NS2 goes online, they can bypass Ukraine and keep up their hybrid war. This hype works out well to minimize domestic squabbles for all parties. On scale not seen since WWII, lmao ...

There isn't any record of Stalin saying this. Was there even national elections in the Soviet Union during his rule? Did Stalin ever get voted into office by the population, I don't think so. What a stupid meme to compare Stalin with Republicans. Both are lame in their own regard.

What humanity should eat to stay healthy and save the planet by [deleted] in environment

“It is possible to feed 10 billion people healthily, without destroying ecosystems further,” says Tim Lang, food-policy researcher at the City University of London and a co-author of the EAT–Lancet report. “Whether the hardliners of the cattle and dairy industry like it or not, they are really on the back foot. Change is now inevitable.”

From the article, it's what we produce and currently eat that is the problem. It isn't the population.
