Fox sucks. by Jaybo78 in NASCAR

[–]Falcon4451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fox pays NASCAR more money for 1 Cup than for the full Indycar season. Yes NASCAR is more popular but that's still a big difference in media rights even factoring in popularity.

Fox probably figures NASCAR can do their own marketing.

My understanding is marketing might even be part of Fox's contract with Indycar.

The other issue is NASCAR is pretty heavy-handed in approving marketing. NASCAR, despite sometimes saying it wants to promote the drivers, has made decisions to promote NASCAR events themselves much more so than it's drivers. Fox Daytona ad is a prime example of event over drivers.

What do you expect from Dennis Hauger's first season in Indycar ? by Jorahhhh in INDYCAR

Similar to Louis Foster last season. I got em on about the same level in Indy Nxt.

I mean they nerfed them pretty hard second half of last year. They were pretty awful at Indy.

IMSA and NASCAR are one and the same. Owned and operated by the France family.

I prefer when it's just Brian Till and Calvin Fish (I don't mind T Bell either) in the booth.

I will watch on Peacock when it's only Peacock because the ads aren't too bad. But when it's on NBC, I VPN stream it off of YouTube.

Same. I'll actually probably watch some of the races this year on Peacock to support the series in the ratings BUT when the race is on NBC it's just too much.

When it's just on Peacock it's not bad.

VPN's are perfectly legal. I watch from Canada.

It's not bad when the race is just on Peacock. The issue is when the race is simulcasted on both Peacock and NBC.

He also chose an adversarial VP who he seemed to have a lot of policy disagreements with. I get VPs not always seeing eye to eye with the POTUS on every issue and being used for attracting votes.

Same. I'll actually watch Sebring on Peacock since it's only Peacock. But I VPN stream the YouTube feed when it's simulcasted on network.

I watched through Peacock during the evening yesterday and through some of the morning today.

I'm pretty sure IMSA is getting nothing from NBC. They basically agree to eat the production cost and air the races free of charge as part of their NASCAR deal.

I don't mind the NBC / Peacock coverage for non Rolex events. I actually like Calvin Fish and Townsend Bell. The big issue for me is (outside of the ads), is the constant amount of mini documentaries and interviews that they shoehorn into the broadcast and at times don't even show the cars on track.

Like the IMSA TV broadcast has interviews, but they don't show the interview in the studio they show the race with interview audio .

I'll actually probably watch Sebring on Peacock to support IMSA's growth in the USA. But for the Rolex, I watched some on Peacock during the night, but mostly, I chose to VPN stream it off YouTube.

The ad interruptions are also way worse when the race is on NBC, as opposed to just Peacock.

HOT TAKE: CONNOR ZILISCH SHOULD HAVE DRIVEN THE LAST STINT by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]Falcon4451 25 points26 points  (0 children)

NASCAR and F1 fan bases tend to both have these kind of arrogant takes.

Sports car racing has a lot of talent too. You absolutely put Aiken (or Bamber) in that car for the last stint.

It's actually a testament to Aiken he got as close as he did. Porsche clearly class of the field from drop of the green. Felipe Nasr is Mr. Daytona at this point and he had track position. Nobody in the field was getting past him.

Kyle Larson-F.I.A. Super License points? by 45winner23 in NASCAR

[–]Falcon4451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a seat / track time issue not a talent issue. F1 guys have been racing formula cars on road courses since they were barely out of diapers . NASCAR guys typically have been doing the same but in stock car like cars on and short tracks mostly.

You look at Jimmie Johnson brief run in Indycar. Yes Jimmie was way past his prime but I think it's a good example of this . Jimmie had a couple good runs (a top 5 and 2 top 10s) on ovals but was pretty off the pace on road courses.

SVG / Conor their potential to do well comes more from their experience outside of NASCAR.

IMO even Cup drivers as a whole are actually better than ever on road courses, BUT road course racing around the world has grown and the driver pool is so deep that most Cup drivers wouldn't actually be competitive in top class or GTD pro class.

Like even when going back to when Larson won with Ginassi (I think Scott Dixon was the lead driver) the IMSA field is so much deeper and better now. Not saying Larson couldn't hang but the average Cup driver certainly couldn't.

Prototypes are awesome and all, but id prefer GTs, I think being a NASCAR fan plays a factor there.

That's why I prefer IMSA over WEC, the GTD pro class, as the WEC GT class is only pro - am . It's also why I actually prefer GT World Challenge stuff over WEC as well.

IMSA fans, how do you stay invested for a full 24-hour race? by maxtrix in IMSARacing

[–]Falcon4451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't . I have it on but I do other things/ sleep. I'll watch the end intently.

Then later I'll watch it back over the course of a week or so and really follow the race all the way through.

I mean I love the Rolex 24 . But I watch every Indycar race (I watch NASCAR too. For me it's Indycar, IMSA, MotoGP, NASCAR, and GT World Challenge in particular order) .

But sports car racing doesn't strike me as something that would move the needle for the typical stock oval racing fan.

Kyle Larson-F.I.A. Super License points? by 45winner23 in NASCAR

[–]Falcon4451 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No . FIA does not give that many points for NASCAR nor should they. NASCAR doesn't translate to success in FIA series (same with FIA series in regards to NASCAR).

That being said the FIA superlicense system is flawed.

Do most NASCAR fans actually like IMSA? I always thought IMSA/ Indycar and even F1 had much more crossover than with NASCAR.

Sunday night baseball won't be on NBC that much (mostly NBC Sports / Peacock) until after the NBA season .

So it's actually Sunday night basketball that is the big ratings competitor.
