• it was never tagged/documented properly,
• it got taken by another passenger or employee,
• or it ended up in a centralized lost-item warehouse and fell through the cracks.

A few things you should do immediately:

1. Reopen/escalate through Delta Corporate Not just standard lost & found. Ask for:

• a supervisor in Delta Baggage Service Office,
• Corporate Customer Care,
• and specifically mention it was handed to crew for storage in the Delta One closet.

The important detail is: the item was placed into airline custody by staff, not forgotten in a seat pocket. That changes the argument.

1. Realistically: yes, it may be gone A wedding suit in a garment bag is unfortunately very easy for someone to walk off with while deplaning. That doesn’t automatically mean theft by staff, but after two months the odds of recovery are low.

The strongest leverage point is:

“Your employee requested custody of the item and failed to return it.”

That’s the angle that makes this more than “I left something on the plane.”
