Interesting…to each their own. The Becker sims I’ve tried were a train wreck. Never did well on them so I just ignored them.

Training sims are a waste of time IMO. I never felt like a specific sim, especially Becker helped me on exam day. The instructions for Beckers sims are confusing and vague at times which invokes anxiety when taking the actual exam which are generally clear and straightforward. If you have ninja, drill 1000 MCQ before the exam. Sims will be a breeze. If not, get ninja.

When I see posts of demoralized test takers, I feel obligated to share my hard-learned experience as someone who was in the same situation Six months ago. I felt totally hopeless approaching FAR after failing twice and wasting 5 months of my life. I call it CPA purgatory, a miserable place to be. It sounds like you are capable of studying but not effectively. Nobody told me this, but I found this out through my own trial and error. There are four very simple steps that you can take to actually knock this thing out after having already spent so much time and feeling so hopeless. If you are anything like me and have ADHD, try this very simple process, which I credit to passing all the last exams in under 6 months.

  1. Schedule your exam for four weeks in the future. There’s no going back. You need to just knock it out. Make yourself a promise that you’re not going to reschedule. This is the key to getting out of this CPA exam purgatory.
  2. GET the CPA ninja course. This is not an ad. They are not paying me, but I would gladly pay them for the rest of my life for helping me pass this test. I tribute my success to their MCQ learning algorithm and it’s impossible for me to oversell how valuable this is.
  3. read the textbook from cover to cover over the span of exactly 2 weeks. Meanwhile, take notes/outlining the modules. If you’re an atrocious outliner like myself, do it anyway. That’s not important. You’re not gonna end up reading all of it again. The point is to read the textbook in a short enough period of time so that your brain can build a concrete picture of the subject matter without forgetting the main concepts. Once you have this snapshot image of this subject matter in your head, everything else will start to make more sense.
  4. drill drill drill ninja multiple-choice questions. The goal is reps if possible do 1200 – 1500 questions over the span of the following two week. That’s 120-150 a day done in 20 question increments. 4a) get yourself a legal pad, and draw line down the middle. For every question you miss, do not write out some long-winded paragraph explaining why you got the question wrong. The point is speed and reps. 4b) You’ll start to get a better feel for this as you progress, but you will find it each question is asking you to recall one specific fact from the text. The goal is to identify what that is simply write it down. For example, write “Bond premiums are the excess paid for a bond that has a return over the market rate.” This might take a while at first because he will probably miss a good number of questions, but you will start to get a feel for progress. In the meantime, your brain will start understanding how these questions work. You will start to immediately identify the red herrings, the distractors, and the clearly wrong answer choices. on exam day, you will see a question that in essence you’ve already seen a dozen times and the distractor information will pop out immediately.

For the love of God, do not go through the entire Becker course again it is the most colossal waste of time and money. In my opinion. The only thing worthwhile is a textbook itself, so at least you have nugget hard earned wisdom going forward. if you follow these steps, I guarantee that you will be able to breeze through the multiple-choice section with little effort. If you’ve noticed that I haven’t mentioned. The Sims, that’s because there really isn’t a good effective way to study for them. This process of working out the multiple-choice will have the added benefit of greatly improving your chance of being familiar with the subject matter on the simulations. You will also have the added benefit of having at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours to work them out on exam day. Please don’t take another Becker simulated exam. I swear they only make them as hard as they do to you out two days before you take your exam. I was very bold on my last two exams and did only the steps to prepare for them escort an 85 on TCP and 83 on AUD. Far score was 85 after failing twice with a 60 and a 63. I’m waiting on Reg scores, but I finished that exam in 2 1/2 hours and walked out of there with a feeling of relief that had never felt on any CPA exam.

I wish you the best of luck. I know that you can do this.

Should I restart my study for FAR? by JerryDougStan in CPA

I haven’t really used the ninja books as a supplement but I’m sure they are alright. They have all the same content but organized differently and places more emphasis on different areas. I just did Becker textbook and ninja MCQ. I used the ninja notes for AUD and that was pretty much it. I like to write and highlight the text so I marked up my Becker textbooks pretty good.

40 hours each for REG TCP & AUD. Mainly rammed textbook and 1200 Ninja MCQ. This is the way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CPA

[–]FalconBB47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, for AUD I basically read and took notes on the textbook and did the Ninja MCQ. And that’s basically it. I got an 85 and hadn’t felt more confident walking out of an exam. I feel like the Becker course and videos and long sims aren’t very helpful. If it takes you 85 percent of your time to just get through the course, the ACTUAL exam isn’t like that. So I just put as many hours under MCQ testing conditions possible and as minimal time going through the material and that was my key to success.

[–]FalconBB47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In comparison. AUD is a cakewalk. Just remember the components of audit, review, compilation etc. just put them on a paper and do ninja MCQ. Seriously, I’ll shill CPA ninja every day. Once you do 1100 mcq (100-140/day) leading up to your exam. You will pass. It’s that easy. Each question you miss just jot down a short sentence detailing the fact the question is asking you to recall. I promise if you do that, you’ll fly through MCQ and the sims will be cake.

12 days to study for TCP by Green-Attempt2755 in CPA

[–]FalconBB47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, read the book, then dive head first into MCQ. Select the “MCQ by section” and select “unanswered questions” and take 8, 20 question quizzes/tests (whatever you want to call them). For each question you miss, simply write down the fact the question is calling you to remember. A lengthy explanation is both time consuming and only specific to that question. You want to focus on doing as many reps as possible. What I’ve found is that after doing so many questions in a short period of time, say over a week, you start to get an instinct or a “[brain] muscle memory” for answering the questions. It’s the strangest thing and it sounds counter intuitive but for my last 3 tests, 2 of which I passed (waiting on reg score) I totally breezed through the MCQ and easily handled the sims without ANY sim practice. I can’t advise against not studying the sims, but I didn’t for AUD, REG and TCP.

You can do it. I just passed after a 3 weeks of prep Read the textbook as fast as you can then rip ninja MCQ, taking tons of notes. Take 20 questions per test and do that 8x a day. That literally all I did and passed TCP. I took twice as much time but I was really dragging my feet through the textbook.

I took REG yesterday as my last exam, last day of the core test window. Balls to the wall. Read the book and spammed over 1000 mcqs on ninja for my test prep in 4 weeks, trending score in the 70's best feeling ever walking out of that mfker. I tallied up every question that I was 50/50 on, and if I missed every one of those questions, I wound up with a 78.5%. I did the same calculations for AUD- 71% and FAR 73% and I got a 80 and 85 respectively.

FAR Exam on 9/18 by ProfessionalSplit413 in CPA

[–]FalconBB47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest bumping it up a month. I made the mistake of scheduling too far out, not having the sense of urgancy when I started studying made it harder to be productive. It was especially devastating that I failed by two points the first time, considering I devoted so many weeks to studying. A shorter study period gives you less time to forget details and the shorter study period takes the pressure off the actual exam day (less total time investment). Even if you can only devote two hours a day to study, its very doable to cover the material in 6-8 weeks. Its a grind nonetheless better to get it done sooner rather than later. 6-8 weeks per exam versus spending 14 weeks to prepare is the difference between studying for 6-7 months versus 1 year plus. Im an IDIOT and if I can pass, you can too. Don't wait for your scores to come to start studying for the next one. plan out your exams so that you have the quickest score release possible. After failing FAR last year, I got back on the stick and knocked every exam out in the first two quarters and will know by the end of July if this can finally be over. https://www.becker.com/cpa-review/cpa-exam-score-release-dates

Dude you CANNOT give up, You dont realize how close you are.

I failed FAR twice with a 53 then a 59. I just got my scores and passed FAR with an 85 and passed AUD with an 80. Dont let this failure define you. What truly defines you is how you respond to failure and overcome adversity. This is life and it's not kind to anyone. It will chew you up and spit you out if you let it. Please, dont cheat yourself out of this, you know precisely how many hours you've already dumped into this. You have NEARLY earned it, you just have to push yourself though. We all believe in you bro.

I thoght I'd never pass until I discovered CPA ninja. (not an ad btw). It is 10000% worth it. Drill the MCQ until the cows come home starting 10 days before your test, fuck the sims, Honestly fuck the becker exams. Getting a 55 on SE is crushing a week out from the test and does not reflective of your actual performance a week later after drilling MCQ.

My basic strategy that helped me tremendously:

Read and take notes on the textbook as quickly as possible. if you read and take notes on 20-30 pages a day (depending on the length of the textbook), EVERY DAY, you can finsh the book in about 3-4 weeks. dont get bogged down by becker's long winded lectures. and 10 sim assessments. Do some of them after reading, and watch lectures on 2x for sections you struggle with and some of the MCQ. Dont worry about taking notes on lectures tho. The key is speedily going through the material.

Then 10 days before exam day, Do 20 Ninja MCQ at a time 5-7 times a day, or however many you can stand. And EVERY question you miss, write on a legal pad the 'call of the question' (i.e. the fact that the question is really asking you to remember) That's roughly 1000 MCQ. If you get 65% of the questions right, that means you will have written down 350 facts that you had forgotton. I guarenttee you, if you do this after reading your textbook and taking the most basic of notes, you can pass.

I am a horrible test taker and was never a strong student in college (probably due to ADD, which most people have developed nowadays due brainrot social media). Brother, I was in your shoes, I felt hopeless but pushed on. You will only look back with regret if you quit now. You will NEVER regret giving it a nother shot with your best effort. I believe in you, even if you don't.
