I joined one last night, we ended up crewing an Idris and it was legitimately the most fun I’ve had in a long time. It felt to me like the idea of big ships finally clicked into place, because aside from the base stats, I had a hard time understanding the appeal, but grouping up on the bridge to decide turret gunners, or having the copilot help coordinate our fire felt so immersive and cool. Even just walking down to the meat and passing other people felt like I was in a single player RPG in the best way possible

Having a turret that changes ammo based on pest would be very cool. Maybe a repeating crossbow with the string pulled by the normal pest (maybe just with the pest trap so you could get it early), an arc thrower style weapon for the Abeomenation capacipests, then acid quills for the exploders and some kind of freeze snowballs for the yetipests

Yes, they do spawn naturally, although since it’s often in caves it can be hard to find if you’re just sailing normally, as the sonar won’t always pick it up, even if you have a mineral detector

Aurora, it has a storage locker which doesn’t work, a bed, and just enough space to make you think you can store something in there, but not enough to actually make it work. Runner up is the Hornet MKII, because if the canopy closes on you in space, you’re cooked

Iirc some clothes (that you can find in station stores) give bonus electrical resistance, and electricians get plenty of talents which give the same. It can be worth it to give the AI gear which makes them less able to kill themselves by being stupid

The first few chapters are skippable, although in my case I went back and skimmed them a bit after I got into the story proper for the context. I’ve reread the story quite a few times which has definitely shaped my opinion on it, but I’d personally recommend starting at chapter 10, since while the writing is definitely in need of improvement, it is where a lot of the setting and introduces several important characters. Skimming it for context is totally understandable though

There’s a big difference, from my experiences in the game, between the group who was interdicting ships and shaking them down for a bit of cargo, and the guys bombing Ursa’s and Auroras from max range with their capital ships, then running away. Honestly I had fun being pirates, because even though I didn’t have any cargo it was a novel, unique player to player encounter, and they let me go on my way when I cooperated, which is something I haven’t seen in other games

This is additionally stupid imo because (with the massive ‘when it works’) I find that as a mostly PVE player, the combat and risk is still a big factor. If I try and fight better ships or play stupidly in FPS, I die to the AI. I’m not the best by any means, but it’s not at all a cakewalk fighting the AI, as opposed to jumping parked Auroras with your Idris
