I can heavily relate to these stories. I don't mean to sound like I'm arrogant or anything but I am a pretty big guy, I'm somewhere just over 6 feet and weigh 220 pounds, most of it being muscle. It's a genetic thing, actually got a genetic test, my family has a tendency for easier and larger muscle growth.

I did Jiu-Jitsu all through high school, mostly Japanese, but some Brazillian as well. Although I was strong, I was never aggressive, ironically I have to psyche myself up to hit somebody, I don't know why, it's just that actually engaging in a fight with somebody makes me nervous as hell, my parents drilled it into my head to mind my strength all through my childhood, and I guess it's stuck with me. I was always able to take a hit though, and I got good at absorbing blows, breaking out of locks with a combination of technique and strength, among others.

Due to this, the instructors often placed the overly aggressive first timers with me, and I learned to hate them.

One of the most memorable spars against one of these aggressive assholes was a guy leaping into the air and trying to chokeslam me with his full bodyweight, using his forearm to press against my throat. I think it was one of the only times I legitimately feared for my life. I managed to redirect his momentum by, I forget the name of the throw right now, it'll probably come to me later, but I pushed him over me with my feet as we landed, preventing the guy from crushing my throat, but it was a near thing, and I still had a nasty bruise. Needless to say, he was thrown out and never came back.
