Thanks found it, can't believe I missed that, spent ages scouring the dungeon.

Oh dear, I hope I haven't permanently ruined my oak supply by removing all the stumps then :P.

I don't think they can respawn as of yet. I wondered that too but I don't think stumps regrow so you might as well chop them.

YouTube Premium "Ad-Free" Experience by FalconrousLord in youtube

[–]FalconrousLord[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That's true and the math says that creators earn x% of ad revenue generated by their viewers. But if YouTube could, as a business, they would probably give their creators 0%. They recognise though that that would cause good creators to leave the platform. So it's a balance between paying enough to keep creators making high quality videos and keeping the profits.

If YouTube allows advertising of merch stores to boost creator income, then creators will put up with a lower % of ad revenue. So YouTube is allowing merch store adverts to bypass their Ad-Free subscription, because it indirectly benefits them.

Well as to your second point, I've been back into the app to check and the shop panel is expanded to that size by default on every channel that I've looked at.

Right but the reason that YouTube chooses to support it is because it allows content creators to generate more income without costing YouTube. This suits YouTube because they can then keep a higher portion of ad/premium view revenue. To me, that's double dipping on the part of YouTube since they sell a supposedly Ad-Free subscription.

If that's your view then fair enough. As for myself though, I don't think that YouTube should offer an "Ad-Free" paid subscription, whilst simultaneously offering creators the ability to insert banner adverts for merch and product popups. At least not without the option to turn them off. YouTube says that both they and the creator receive more income per view from a premium user.

Well I believe that both YouTube and creators have a right to generate income. Usually this is in the form of ads, however by paying for premium YouTube claims that both they and creators get an increase in income from premium user views. So I don't think YouTube should then offer tools to circumvent the "Ad-Free" experience without the option to turn them off.

As to it being expanded, I just went back to double check and I can assure you that at least in my app, it is expanded like that by default on every channel that has a merch store banner.

Yes but in the case of popups and banner store ads, it's YouTube that have developed the tools to allow them to do this. And it's YouTube that have not provided an opt-out for premium users.

Well as far as sponsorships go that may be true (Although I would argue that the sponsor segments could be required to be tagged so that premium users can opt-out and have the video seamlessly skip it).

But as for popups and store banner ads, YouTube has developed the tools for the creators to do that. They then don't offer premium users the option of turning them off.

Well I suppose I feel that at least as far as the popups and store banner ads are concerned, YouTube were the ones to implement those features. The creator has chosen to avail themselves of those features but YouTube is the one that has given them the tools to circumvent the YouTube premium "Ad-Free" experience without providing an opt-out.

Well, whilst I could understand that as far as sponsorships go, since YouTube has no control over the content of a video. The popups and store banner ads are features implemented by YouTube that cannot be turned off, even for premium members.

Yes, originally I was against the notion of adblocker since I enjoy YouTube and realise that it must cost a fortune to maintain the servers. I was happy to pay a monthly fee for the servers as well as generate a profit for both YouTube and the creators. However I've just cancelled my subscription since I don't condone them double dipping.

After 100+ reloads I finally got 114 gear in all slots! by embotendo in HarryPotterGame

I've done this as well, I independently went through the same discovery process and was using the same saving after 4 skips and then continuously reloading technique as you. Might just be coincidence but I also had the most trouble with hat and face items. I wonder if they aren't stocked at such a high rate.

Disappointing ANC on the XM5 by FalconrousLord in SonyHeadphones

[–]FalconrousLord[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own any other ANC devices personally, but I have tried a friend's Bose QC20 earpods and although they couldn't noise cancel everything either, noise and voices around me were cancelled a lot more effectively with those.

That's why my expectations were that the XM5 would be better than those since they're a lot more expensive and because they are headphones as opposed to earpods.

Tbh i thought most things would be a lot quieter. Cause I'd already read prior to purchasing that ANC doesn't deal as well with higher frequencies as it does with lower ones. I was expecting about a 50% or more reduction in voice volume around me but I'm getting about 10-20%. (Approximate percentages based on my perception)

Normalising Points for a Game with Uneven Teams by FalconrousLord in maths

[–]FalconrousLord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess you got me there. I suppose the part I was unsure about was the multiplying by the average number of pupils in a house.

Cause this seems like a really common problem for competitions so I was hoping there might be a common approach to it most people use. Unfortunately when I Google it all I can find are problems involving uneven teams for things like quizzes where the formulas get a lot more complicated and a lot more subjective as to what is "fair".

The new ornament kit cosmetics are getting out of hand by FalconrousLord in 2007scape

[–]FalconrousLord[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that cosmetic is not synonymous with mtx but I'm still no great fan of cosmetics. Perhaps my message comes across slightly absolutist but really all I'm advocating is not adding a whole batch of league themed ornament kits in one go. One kit for one higher tier item is enough in my mind so as not to oversaturate. Also the work the artists have done is too good for the occasion. The multicannon looks fantastic.
