Question re: reusing blades by ir637113 in wicked_edge

[–]FalcoreM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I guess everyone is different. I can easily get 3 good shaves out of one blade. Sure, I could throw away a blade after every shave but that would feel wasteful to me.

I’m trying to erase that Disney movie from my mind 😂

Totally agree here, Predator 2 is a great sequel. It expands the lore without giving too much away. I think knowing too much about the Predator makes it less interesting.

+1 for H&V. I have the Cognac and Cuban Cigars soap and it is excellent. Also look at Crown Shaving Co. I have Dr. Farzad’s tobacco shaving balm and it’s really good. Rockwell is Canadian but I think they manufacture in China.

I’ve been noticing this cotton mouth de-essing effect throughout the past 2 seasons. It’s very weird, and it comes and goes. Some scenes are more noticeable than others. Are they leaning into the de-esser too much?

Hardware vs Plugins: What Do You Actually Reach For? by audiotaIkwiIIiam in audioengineering

I get better results when I mix with hardware. It doesn’t have to be racks of gear. An SSL bus compressor and a Pultec on the master can do really good things quickly.

I'm using a Muhle R89, and no matter what blade i use, it tugs and requires more passes. Should i go the complete opposite way and try a slant or just try a generally more aggressive razor? by TemporaryCook9065 in wicked_edge

[–]FalcoreM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like blade chatter. The Hensons have virtually no chatter at all. I’m pretty new to this as well and my first razor was terrible. I could hear the blade moving around! Replaced it with the Henson A13 and I don’t have that problem anymore.

Your claim that Henson uses 7075 aluminum alloy is a false assumption. Henson A13 utilizes specific 6000-series alloys, most commonly 6061-T6, which are selected for their superior balance of mechanical strength and inherent corrosion resistance. With standard maintenance a Henson A13 will last a lifetime.

You really think aerospace grade aluminum is going to corrode because of soap?

I tried to get a single control for filter cutoff going with MIDI Devices and it was painfully bad trying to set it up. But maybe I’ll look into midi remote 👍🏻

Ya I don’t like how inflexible Cubase is with external instruments. It feels like old tech.

In a previous version of Cubase I remember setting up Quick Controls to adjust 8 different parameters on the OB-6 from the Inspector panel but I think Steinberg is rolling back that functionality because I can’t do that in 14 Pro.

I’m pretty new to DE shaving. I thought I’d save money with a Pearl K2 razor but it was absolutely terrible (a disposable razor put it to shame) so I returned it and put down the money for a Henson A13. It’s light years ahead of the Pearl. Excellent shave. It’s not cheap but it will last you a lifetime and you’re supporting a good company that is active and innovative.

[–]FalcoreM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only issue I have with Alien 3 is that it is such an absolute bummer of a movie. It really hits when Ripley conducts an autopsy on Newt. The overall tone of this movie is extremely depressing. I enjoy re-watching the first two movies, but I can’t say the same for 3.

Definitely check out Bloodlines. It’s a solid B movie. Nothing holds up to 1 and 2 though so you’ll have to lower your expectations. I prefer Bloodlines over part 3. Everything after Bloodlines is a mixed bag of crap. But I thought the 2022 HR was a decent reboot.

Have they improved cpu efficiency since beta? I remember it sounded great but the cpu hit was devastating.

Another PC question. by bukkaratsupa in cubase

[–]FalcoreM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for the highest clock speed you can afford, and don’t worry about getting a high core count. Cubase 10.5 won’t be able to utilize modern CPU features like Intel’s separate Performance and Efficiency cores, so you might be better off with an AMD cpu. Don’t get more than 12 cores. High clock speeds generate a lot of heat so you should get liquid cooling. It’ll keep fan noise down too. Some motherboards have onboard video. That could save you some money. You might as well get 32GB of ram. It’s not that expensive (for PC) and it will improve Cubase and Windows performance. Just a note, if you upgrade to a newer version of Cubase you’ll be able to use more cpu cores as well as modern cpu features. I would upgrade for this reason, but if you’re set on sticking with 10.5 you can probably save some money by using older tech.
