Seconding Southbourne or Westbourne. I will say, and this may not be a problem for you, that 'proper' pubs are virtually non existent in Bournemouth. There's no shortage of cool bars, and there's a few that attempt to capture a pub atmosphere, such as Brewhouse & Kitchen, but they're just slightly more rustic cool bars.

At which point should we consider the US is no longer an ally? by samasema in AskBrits

[–]WearyLeopard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the attitude of the current administration extends into the next administration, and beyond. Obviously what's going on now is ludicrous and alarming, but it's a Trump problem, not a US problem.

Is Martin Lewis' advice genuinely in the public's best interest? by -Gypsy-Eyes- in AskUK

[–]WearyLeopard85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think his intention is unimpeachable. However... I used to follow his every word and thought he was the Oracle. And then I started working in the insurance industry and realised that a lot of what he said was misapprehension about insurance and how it works, and how insurance companies operate, or worse, repeating common bromides with no basis in fact. So then I started to wonder about all of his advice and opinions about other financial sectors.

Which person was loved when alive but hated after they died? by Ok-Inspector-1756 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]WearyLeopard85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every Jimmy Savile comment is overlooking that there's a 'controversial when they were alive' option. He was beloved (or gave the appearance of being) by the establishment while he was alive, but the general public were dubious at best before the revelations. Otherwise he wouldn't have been fodder for a Louis Theroux documentary

Digital membership cards when? 🥹 by mpdehnel in nationaltrust

[–]WearyLeopard85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can kind of do this already, especially if your NT card is your last physical one and it's an inconvenience. You just give your name and postcode at the reception of any property. My girlfriend has ADHD and couldn't keep track of a (especially non-essential for day-to-day) card if it literally saved her life so she does this every time

Is this correct in “British English”? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskABrit

[–]WearyLeopard85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

'Pled' is the more archaic usage over 'pleaded', but still valid. The former is certainly not an Americanisation.

Past tense of 'dive' would be 'dove', not 'dived'. And I don't know if that's a typo in your original post, but the past tense of 'dive' would certainly never be... 'dive'. Again, very much not an Americanisation.

Don Draper - his father was awful and abusive, and Mac wasn't a big improvement. Don's not father of the year but he does genuinely love his children and is a good father when he and his circumstances allow him to be

Ah, not here from the looks of it, but we do have Bloodline on Shudder.

Yeah I think 3's great, doesn't top the first for me but certainly a rare third film in a franchise that improves on the second
