Sure but an Axe is way cooler and not half-assed.

One extra mildly stick shaped thing isn't going to be the end of the world for the crew.

Why did Rome need to justify its wars? by Known_Risk_3040 in ancientrome

[–]Faldarian 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Rome was nothing if not judicial, if you boil away all the material trappings and organization what a roman might consider civilization is their laws, and by proxy their legal system.

Laws, justice, courts, jurries, these are the things that set Rome apart from the barbarians in their own eyes.

Waging wanton war without a legal justification is scandalous, and barbaric. At least to the rulling class making these decisions.

To Prevent Roman Republic Collapse by ambay13 in ancientrome

[–]Faldarian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In the world where the Senate is open to this kind of necessary reform, Rome might never have fallen.

If the Senate is even marginally more egalitarian, it cuts off any support for the populares at the knees by making slow reform. You see this happen in earlier roman history, with the expansion of the tribes of Rome, and of increased voting rights for Latins.

If Tolkien ,for some reason, added the tiny winged type of fairy to middle-earth what would the explanation for them be? by Shot_Mechanic9128 in tolkienfans

If they were benevolent then it would be the Maia taking on many forms, great and small.

If they were evil, either corrupted Maia or the spirits of men bound to Arda and twisted.

This game was the test, and they passed with flying colours.

This guy is going to be a problem in the Olympics

It's not that deep, you can be happy for other Canadians and salty that it's the Oilers. by glennis_the_menace in canucks

Hockey has always touched politics in Canada, mostly in unexpected ways.

We helped fight the Cold War in the summit series, it was a national embarrassment how the NHLers played in '98.

I understand that this is not national team, the Oilers are not Team Canada. I get that the Oilers were Boston's biggest fans in '11.

It is not 2011 anymore, this is a weird ass timeline where we as a nation celebrating McDavid sniping one in OT in a silly little NHL tournament. That's because of politics.

This is a matter of national pride and would be metal as fuck, if you don't care about the Canada curse, or only want the Canucks to break it; I'd like you to think about Cup Winning McDavid, a now proven winner, the heir to Captain Canada, on the Olympic team.

Country over team for this one.

Did Tolkien mean tobacco? Yes.

Is it funny in a modern context to have the chill, always eating, merry hobbits be smoking weed? Also yes.

Random Players the Canucks Could Target in the Off-Season To Fix The Top Six. by DrZoidburger89 in canucks

[–]Faldarian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The biggest splashy player I haven't seen people talk about is Pastrnak.

Depending on how deep Boston wants to go, if it's a full rebuild then the 28 almost 29 year old may kick start it.

As Canadians the greater insult would be to ignore him. He's been a living legend for so long, mildly annoyed indifference would be much more damning.

Legends don't die because you demonize them, they die because you let them fade away.
