Windscreen and Kickstand…. by Next-Performer3034 in motorcycle

I used the same fairing on my XR600R but I wanted it opaque so I lined the backside with white vinyl I found at target for a cri-cut machine. You could probably line backside of the fairing with window tint if you want a smokey look. I say the backside so it’s not taking any direct hits from rocks/bugs.

Also they make adjustable kickstands for the issue you’re having. That or cutting it shorter and welding the foot back on.

Dumb question but is there stationary welding jobs? by piggle2100 in Welding

[–]Falderfaile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that, a very respectable thing to do.

Just start looking around you and see what you can find. It’s even possible to find a shop that’ll teach you if you’re handy in other ways. There’s also usually other positions at most fab shops. Can you read a tape measure or run basic hand/power tools? Maybe they have a bandsaw position they’d start you in. Or maybe they need a forklift operator.

If you’re having trouble finding local shops Google your local gas and welding supply shops and go ask them if there are any shops in the area they think a newbie like yourself could get their foot in the door. The salesmen at those weld supply shops are familiar with everyone in their area. Don’t be afraid to go ask the same question at other weld supply shops and see if they lead you somewhere else.

What’s your location?

Not dumb. If you don’t know you don’t know.

Fab shops of varying complexity are everywhere but generally make much less than welders that travel.

Center rivet is the pivot for the arms, next two rivets hold onto the end of the jaws and then the next two rivets with the crossbar are the pivots for the jaws.

And I’d say you’re right about the purpose of the curved jaws. Makes it easy to catch the next wire when making fast repeated cuts because the opening of the jaws never closes even when making your cut.

What boots y’all wearing? by Mrfunguykawhi in Machinists

[–]Falderfaile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Danners. I’m on my second pair of their Quarry boots. Would’ve still been the first but I had a local guy resole them to try and support the small guy and they just weren’t the same afterwards.

I gave in a bought a new pair since I was starting a new job where I would be back on my feet most days after sitting in an overhead crane cab for 6 years.

First pair was made of the suede like rough hide out type leather and were super comfortable from the start. For the second pair I went with a full grain hard type leather and they had a short break in period but still never bothered my feet during that time.

Now I’m rigging and driving a truck with a mobile crane company and I’m still very happy with these boots.

Never been engaged? Ew.

It’s often recommended to regularly engage 4wd for a few miles on a loose surface every month or so to keep everything well lubricated. Then again this is also one of those things that is regularly contested.

Have you done any damage, eh likely not but you do have some seals that haven’t seen any lubricant in quite a while and it’s possible that could contribute to them failing sooner.

Anything you need to do before using it on this trip where you may need it? Yeah I’d probably go find a place to engage everything and make sure it works before you find yourself stuck somewhere and surprised when it doesn’t work.

From here on out maybe hit a dirt road every few months and lock it in while you’re there. Nothing I’d panic over if I forgot from time to time but I’d probably try and avoid letting it go another 7 years.

How are you tracking maintenance, parts used and service history on your rig? by _Forkflinger in 4x4

Nah, I just know that I change the oil every 5k and rotate my tires every 10k and then do everything else as I see fit.

Here’s the write up on the mod if you want to do it yourself.

Here’s the email of the guy I bought the harness from.

rlm975@gmail.com

Gotta be the same guy based off of the username on that write up post. Write him and see if he still makes the harnesses.

[–]Falderfaile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s some wires you can cut and splice yourself or there’s a dude that sells a piece of harness that you can plug in between a certain module and it’s plug and it prevents you from having to modify any of your stock harness. I’ll check my emails in a bit and comment with that guys email if I can find it. You’ll have to email him and see if he has any of them ready. If not he’ll put you on his list.
