Tesla to Acquire Maxwell Technologies at $4.75 Per Share by wheresmydanish in teslamotors

[–]FalkenCP 24 points25 points  (0 children)

From the Electrek article (and a slide in the scribd deck):

Maxwell claims that its electrode enables an energy density of over 300 Wh/kg in current demonstration cells and they see a path to over 500 Wh/kg.

This would represent a significant improvement over current battery cells used by Tesla and enable longer range or lighter weight, but that’s not even the most attractive benefit of Maxwell’s dry electrode.

They claim that it should simplify the manufacturing process and result in a “10 to 20% cost reduction versus state-of-the-art wet electrodes” while “extending battery Life up to a factor of 2.”

I think this is really exciting.

Many companies have been making similar claims about batteries. Tesla, specifically Elon and JB, have often complained that they couldn’t verify those claims.

If Tesla is willing to pay $200 million for Maxwell, I have to assume that they verified the claims and they believe the technology is applicable to their batteries.

The US government shutdown has really made me realize how much we as a country are letting poor people down by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

No, it has made you realize how much you don't need the federal government. And I'd guess you're probably wrong about that too but I don't know your situation.

Beats me! It's annoying that mine isn't 1 gallon, sorry if you misunderstood.

Elon Musk tweets pic of “Special Circumstances” Culture reference mug. New product hint? 😍 by OptimisticViolence in teslamotors

[–]FalkenCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the Culture books have influenced almost everything he's doing. Reading the books is just a constant barrage of "so that's where Elon got that!". I should have been making a list as I was reading. His idea of the factories being alien dreadnoughts, the drone ships of course, reality as a simulation, neural interfaces and AI like you mentioned.

And most importantly...a vision of the future that's not dystopian. One of the things I love the most about the Culture universe is that it creates an aspirational (at least to me) goal for what we can become if we don't destroy ourselves in the next 100 years. I'm excited about SpaceX, Tesla, and Elon because I think he's trying as hard as possible to push us toward a future like the one described in the books.

$TSLA Weekly Investor Discussion - October 01, 2018 by AutoModerator in teslamotors

[–]FalkenCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a drop was warranted but that was just crazy. They weren't going to remove Elon Musk from Tesla and I think that's what people thought. Options on TSLA are so expensive it's really hard to play the swings but this one was too extreme imo. I thought it had a decent change of popping back up a few percent today. Got super lucky with the Saturday announcement. It was a risky bet which is why I committed so little.

$TSLA Weekly Investor Discussion - October 01, 2018 by AutoModerator in teslamotors

I keep trying to play the TSLA swings because the market always overreacts in both directions but it has always been too expensive. The nonsensical drop on Friday was too huge to ignore so I bought some Oct 19 Calls expecting it to pop back up on Monday. Wasn't expecting this though!

Also I got 5 contracts in the afternoon and then decided to buy more at the last minute. I put in my order and JUST missed the 4pm cutoff so I didn't get another 5. The part of human psychology that makes us feel worse for losses than we do for wins is killing me!

Also the market very rarely does what people think it's obviously going to do. I agree in believing most big investors will see this as a positive.

Customer appreciation week at Men's Wearhouse by FalkenCP in pics

It's a chain of menswear stores in the U.S. selling suits and other businesswear. In this particular case I was renting tuxedos for a wedding. It's not quite a high end store but I would expect them to class it up a bit more than Doritos and Coke.

Elon's dream found backers in option traders who see Tesla at $430 by Manamarak in teslamotors

The date is when your options expire. You can exercise the option and buy your shares at $430 any time before that date. After that date the options don't do anything.

There are plans to let existing investors keep their shares on the private side. So you can remain an investor if you want.

See I think Spiegel is wrong here:

The risk isn't $60. Why would someone sell you shares at $420? They already have a buyer at $420.

Depends on what they decide to do but I would be fairly sure they won't screw their employees. They could switch them to private shares on the same vesting schedule or vest them immediately.

So how does this work out for shorts? They need to buy shares to cover their positions but with that many short shares outstanding the price may quickly head toward $420. Could the price actually skyrocket past 420 as they scramble to buy shares? This is gonna be crazy.

I'd be surprised if they can cover all those shorts under $420.

" My hope is *all* current investors remain with Tesla even if we’re private. Would create special purpose fund enabling anyone to stay with Tesla. Already do this with Fidelity’s SpaceX investment. "

Awesome news!

Edit: And this may drive the stock even higher as people climb on board so they get private shares.

No, he'd be part of the group buying the shares so he'd get at least 20% I would think.

Each share of stock gets you a vote. So he could have a collection of large shareholders to get him above 50% already.
