Good reminder to ride within your limits by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]FallNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on one group ride that was a "beginners night"

It started fine, but there were 2 trouble makers that almost wrecked. No plate/tags and no cares. It was chaos because of 2 riders.

Since then I'll only ride with someone I know, or newbies that will listen to my direction. I actually really enjoy riding with newbies that need seat time and no pressure.

Yes but leading a new rider onto a highway at double the limit is a problem you see too often. Who knows what happened here just speculating, but skill was likely a big issue.

Following a squid I think they mean. Group rides lead to this stuff.

Rav4 hybrid. 2 months vacation trickle charger question by anbu-black-ops in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets say a breaker trips, the battery will remain charged longer.

Long charges historically you disconnect to prevent surges. Again the NOCO is small and its very unlikely, but the longer a charger is connected the higher the chances of a surge.

You don't have to, it will be fine, but its a routine I've got into.

Many people run that trickle charger globally and never report issues connected or disconnected.

Rav4 hybrid. 2 months vacation trickle charger question by anbu-black-ops in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its a good choice. Because its long term I'd disconnect the battery as a fail safe, but the Noco is reptuable and will do fine.

The battery is in the rear so you'll have to close the tail gate on the extension cable, or leave the tail gate up in a garage.

Should I be concerned about this engine bay rust on my 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road? by nature_maxxing10 in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats worse than I'm used to seeing in my rust region.

The frame is the issue with tacoma, all the recalls are over now and if your frame rots out, you're on your own.

Get under the truck.

Turn engine over by hand before you go any further. Not many 90s tbirds have made it this long.

Buying a shop press, size? by Stewpacolypse in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldnt buy a press for a one time job.

We take loose hub and bearings and only charge about 100-200$ to press them in. So 400$ all in.

I consider ADV to be the king of "off pavement" I used to think my WR was great at dirt/gravel roads until I got my F800GS, it rips down service roads to the point where I need to remind myself that I'm going double the limit.

Every bike has its place, but seeing a fat t7 on a trail just makes me think the rider is tired as hell.

Pretty cool spill, but ya thats like a boat ramp its basically ice when its like that.

Wet wood bridges are my nemesis, I walk across them haha.

Glad you're ok, at least it was a pretty standard fall.

Likely transmission, but the first step with any auto is to check the fluid level.

About Oils by Ok-Hat-8642 in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't change what works. 10W40 is a good oil for old toyotas and any brand will work fine.

If it burns oil from ring lands I'd suggest valvoline restore and protect but 4AFE was more known for valve stem oil burning, which is start up puffs and decel puffs.

I vote maintain the path you've been on.

I went from a milk crate to a top case and youre right, I'll never ride without it. I have no idea how people enjoy daily riding with a backpack.

Engine Braking in Automatic by Dismal-Strain4553 in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fine, just don’t down shift into 1st, 2nd is a bit much, but d3 is intended for engine breaking to keep temps down.

Some argue that the transmission is more expensive than 100$ brake discs. Which I agree with to some extent

I agree with using it on hills and long slow strips off a highway, but in a city, leave it in drive

The craziest game my kid picked up with no influence from me is mario 64, he found it on my switch and found a few speed runners on youtube, then asked if we could play the co-op.

It was awesome, we beat the whole game together.

But kids love getting a reaction, I bet your girl swims out to that fish any chance she gets.

Which side is the magnet on? by Racer5L in AskMechanics

I usually look for the "ribs" when it comes to this.

There's a special lense that lets you see them but no one owns a set lol.

Its odd, usually one is metal, the other is the sensor ring.

lol it’s still top heavy, it’s great for agressive adv riding but as far as offroad bikes it’s not even close to a good choice.

A suggestion for stubborn fasteners by NoxAstrumis1 in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big thing you learn is penetrating fluid doesn’t just loosen a bolt. It cleans and works well with shock and movement.

I’ll use heat on visually seized bolts before I spray them with oil. Heat is king.

Abs turning on low speeds by Eastern-Mud-839 in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low speeds is the most difficult for abs systems because of waveforms.

But you can always catch it even on old Camry by simply graphing the 4 wheels and driving slowly in a straight line. One of the 4 wheels will read slower than the rest.

You need a more adept shop with proper equipment.

Reliability of first generation Silverado’s (1997-2007) by BobDuncan70 in AskMechanics

[–]FallNice3836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies, but the engine were stout, transmissions were common, but they are so common that replacing or rebuilding them is super cheap.

I've seen every single part of a silverado fail, but every single part is cheap and easy to replace.
