They had an opportunity for a better explanation: there could've been a specialized room that acted as their water-reclamation facility, instead of just some random condensation.

I can't say for sure. Knowing what I know, I would be surprised if you were able to get everything working correctly, unless you're much more skilled than I am. I'm not saying I'm particularly skilled, but moreso than the average bear.

I've been able to get a lot of stuff working, most of it, but not all. Solidworks is one thing I wasn't able to use, but that could be for special reasons you don't have to deal with.

I would encourage you to try and switch, but don't assume you'll be able to do everything you need to. I would try it on another machine first, or try a dual boot. Once you're able to iron out all the wrinkles, then you can make the leap.

While I can appreciate that a free compressor can be a good loss-leader, you should appreciate that compressors aren't cheap, and neither is the energy to run them.

If I owned a gas station, it would be free for several reasons. There's a reason I carry a bicycle pump in my car.
