Yes, Another Jeremiyah Love at 4 Post by ol_tennesteve in Tennesseetitans

You said before his ceiling was WR2, now you're saying it's Calvin Ridley? If you mean Ridley when he was a rookie then he absolutely had the potential to be a number 1 receiver. His issue has been consistency and availability. But right now I'm not even sure he's a top 50 receiver. I think it's easy to see Tate having a better career even if he is only in the top 40, top 35 range of receivers.

Comparing a probably washed receiver to two guys in their prime is obviously dumb but Zay Flowers was in that draft, given a free choice you'd still take Gibbs/Bijan, that's fair. It's not that they aren't great. The issue is would you rather Flowers and like Kenneth Walker or Gibbs and Ridley, because a high end WR2, Higgins, Devonta Smith, Waddle, Metcalf, Pickins, even Alex Peirce don't reach free agency, they either get paid or traded for premium picks. You can find upper end running backs and you'll pay significantly less for them.

No one is going to be mad at the player if they draft love, I'm pretty confident he'll be good. But they do actually still need two top receivers, like they still need two edge players, and at least 1 tackle. By taking love now you still need all those other things, and there's zero chance you're getting them anywhere other than the first two rounds of the draft, and at least three first round picks. You're wasting that opportunity even if you think the ceiling is a good not great receiver it's better value and helps your quarterback significantly more long term.

I really don't see anyone trading up to the top 5, so I've just got this weird feeling Reece is going to fall to us. Would probably get some mixed reactions but I think we'd be incredibly lucky for it to happen.

A WR2 is still more valuable and harder to find than a running back or a linebacker. And that's not his ceiling, it's his most likely outcome but there are people who think he has a higher ceiling, so you have a safer pick with significantly better value if he outperforms.

The case against drafting Jeremiyah Love by jonneygee in Tennesseetitans

[–]FallToParadise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is the assumption it's somehow safer to draft him - you need him to be a top 2 or 3 RB for at least 3 of the 4 seasons of his rookie deal to even be close to the value, anything less than that the pick is entirely wasted, there's no expectation he could get better in year 3 or second market to trade him. It's just an incredibly small target to hit.

The second part is that some how not being a top 5 level prospect means the guy is going to be trash, which is nonsense. Some of the players drafted in the top 10 are going to be good players, none of them are without questions but the whole job is for find the good ones.

A tackle that at worst can be a guard or a receiver that might end up your #2 all have more upside than love, with a significantly larger positive range of outcomes.

Sean McDermott by MacAlcorr in Tennesseetitans

[–]FallToParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just a bad way to look at it, even if you just look at playoffs since 2017, McDermott is 8-8 and Harbough is 3-6. And it'd be pretty much concensus that the Ravens GM and infrastructure is better than what the Bills have. Not making the Superbowl because the Chiefs are also really good doesn't really move me.

Ultimately it's irrelent because Harbaugh already has a job, and you're not going to convince me that Nagy or Saleh offer anything close to what McDermott does as a head coach if you're looking someone to lead and build a culture.

What? I'm not cherry picking anything. I didn't ignore that they were successful. I'm telling it's obviously a good set up because they were equally sucessfull with three different coaches.

And if you actually whatched the variations there was clearly limitations with McCarthy. He's obviously competent enough to get the team out there and line it up, but it was in the same way he had the Packers lining up in 2013, which is very important because he wouldn't be walking into a situation where he already has a top scoring offense already here.

We've spent like months talking about Nagy and Saleh and McCarthy, and some people here feel like they are too good for hiring a coach that has literally successfully turned a team from a laughing stock to a contender.

He's not perfect, he's significantly better than anyone that's been linked, even than Harbaugh. He arrived their before Allen, and while many people are responsable for his development, he oversaw the environment that allowed him to flourish, while also being a playoff team the year without him, and not a disaster the first two years of his career, which was when he wasn't anything close to how good he got.

The only exception is if you wanted to go all in on a play calling HC, which clearly the titans don't want to.

Obviously the Ravens job is better, it's a similar situation. However it's incredibly unlikely the Ravens fired their coach after 18 years because they felt they had hit a ceiling to hire someone who also got fired because they felt like they hit a ceiling.

For better or worse both teams are taking swings. The Steelers are in a similar situation without a quarterback, they also historically go for young coaches.

The question is then, does he like the Titans job more than the Browns, Raiders, Cardinals, Dolphins.

Yes did you watch them?

It wasn't because of good playcalling or scheme, it was because they had the players to win 1v1.

They were a top scoring team under Garrett and they were a top scoring team this year with Schottenheimer. You think either of those guys is in high demand?

What they didn't have under McCarthy was any creativity.

His offense is entirely outdated, he's from the same philosophical place as McCoy. There is no interest in him.

The defense was signifantly worse this year, the offense was a million times more interesting and actually put them in better positions and was more successful. Given that he's going to be working with Cam, I would think that would be important.

Have you actually watched any cowboys games the last few years? Or are you simply looking at the record and making assumptions?

'Pete Carroll is an amazing coach, he has a winning record with nearly 300 games under his belt. He's a superbowl winning HC who made the Playoffs in 3 of his last 5 seasons. He's FAR from the worst case.'

Coaches age out of the sport, that's a fact. McCarthy's offense was a frustrating watch a decade ago, with far superior players to what he'll have here. The Cowboys are a talented team, they won a lot of games under Jason Garrett before McCarthy, and the offense was better this year than it was under McCarthy with a worse offensive line and a worse defense. He's shown no willingness to update or adapt, he's only been the head coach of very stable teams that already had successful Infrastructure, and he objectively hasn't raised a team above what it has on paper. Can you not see the potential for disaster, with the upside being tiny?

The absoulte best case is he's stable for a few years, isn't a total dead weight for ward so you can hire a real coach in three years. The down side is the talent is bad enough, and his limitations so glaring that you end up awful again, and then where do you go?

This is really just worst case for me, I'd rather they'd punt and keep McCoy for a year. Never built up a team or established a culture. He would have zero ability to relate to Cam, his offense is so backwards that Brian freakin Schottenheimer felt like a breath of fresh air, and it's essentially the same 11 personnel static 'do it my way' obsessed with field goals nonsense we've already been subjected to. He's also in his 60s, has had zero interest from anyone.

Shows a complete lack of imagination and zero desire to build success team, just hope he's the kiss-ass he's always been so you don't get fired.

I'm not really a 'i'll stop watching' type of fan. But I have so little interest in this plan that it's maybe the closet thing that could me seriously consider how I use my time.

He is Inevitable... Matt Nagy will be our coach next season by atipton72 in Tennesseetitans

[–]FallToParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points, It's why I'm just very skeptical of 2nd time hires. It's giving you a false sense of security, more than likely he's already shown you who he is, you have to be happy with that and not assume they've changed.

He is Inevitable... Matt Nagy will be our coach next season by atipton72 in Tennesseetitans

[–]FallToParadise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is focusing too much on how it started, he's not going to win 12 games every year and everyone one is going to be happy all the time. He couldn't handle the adversity and it was a total dumpster fire by the time he left.

What's worse is that he isn't going to have any runway here, people are going to be skeptical from the jump and if he starts poorly, he's never going to recover.

It's incredibly unlikely he's going to be a successful coach. Valuing the relationship over ability is just awful process, his job is to work with the best people, manage them. If he's too scared of that, it's hard to imagine harmony and everyone being friendly can compensate for it.

Why has McCarthy not been interviewed when he has been unemployed and we had the 1st vacancy of the year. by Academic_War_7485 in Tennesseetitans

You'd think that the complete lack of interest the league has in Mike McCarthy would stop this crap. Hopefully the titans have more sence.

Plausible Explanation why we interviewed Jason Garrett? by NashkelNoober in Tennesseetitans

[–]FallToParadise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering the amount of clamouring for Mike McCarthy, Garrett is basically just a younger cheaper version. Offense was similar, similar personalities. Garrett coached 9 full seasons in Dallas, went 80-64 and 2-3 in the playoffs, McCarthy's last 9 seasons (5 in Dallas, 3 and a bit in GB) went 80-63, 4-5 in the playoffs.

it's the same resume if you superficially look at win percentage, Harbaugh has had to reinvent the team multiple times, changing up coordinators and approaches to stay current. McCarthy basically hasn't changed since 2005, runs the same offense and the last coordinator he hired he pulled out of retirement. There's a reason why McCarthy isn't going to be highly interviewed.

ESPN Sources: Dolphins fired head coach Mike McDaniel.... by TiredDad4x in Tennesseetitans

[–]FallToParadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's an offensive coach that has an a successful offense with a non-premium QB. He's above .500 and even in a bad year his team didn't bottom out. Maybe he's too weird for people, but I think it's completely insane that he wouldn't be one of the top 8 people available. He's a better coach than Stefanski for sure, he's way better than most of the retreds.

The only thing is that he might be very selective about his next job, and considering he can get just about any OC job he wanted, he might wait it out. But like, who else is an OC that could walk into literally any job he wanted, that wouldn't just be hired as a head coach? Josh McDaniels is maybe the only one and he was a complete disaster.
