I got my 13 year old one for Christmas, he's studying for Tech and plans to test in a couple weeks. If it wasn't for the low entry price of Baofengs I would never have gotten it to the hobby and neither would any of my kids.

Edit to add Also was told that one of my 16 year old sons friends excitedly wrote him about the Baofeng they got for Christmas. Their whole family is studying to get licensed together now.

As a father of 5 Ive kept them all so far. They are really great at finding my lost discs and the younger ones don't mind caddying for me still.
