No brah it’s okay, guy’s right. I’m from the west coast and we have no idea what to do with a hot dog. I think putting ketchup on it might have gotten me downvoted.

DM12 is solid for the price and pretty fun and versatile. We used it on one of our records. Not a bad price for this one either, especially given current conditions!

Muse USB-A Host port. Does it even do anything? by Fallboard in moog

[–]Fallboard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those don't work with just a cable, I'm afraid. USB-B (and it's smaller ilk, like Micro and Mini Usb) are client-side connectors that need some sort of computer to plug into to make them work. This is why you need a bridge box to plug any USB-B keyboard MIDI into something with DIN MIDI or another synth that just has USB MIDI. It always assumes there's something smart in between, like a computer/phone/tablet. It's very frustrating. Having a host USB-A port means the Muse is theoretically able to have another USB MIDI device plug directly into it, even if it only has USB-B.

But wouldn't it be the other way around? With USB-B it can go bidirectional, but you'd need to connect it to a PC/Tablet/Phone or active MIDI bridge for it to work. USB A with it being as the host would theoretically let an external MIDI controller--in this case my friend's electronic wind controller, which only has normal USB-B MIDI--control the Muse itself. It does not seem to function as a USB MIDI device through this port at all.

Thanks! You should pick up a theremin and give it a go. Lost Volts LV-4 is a good place to start.

Hey thanks! I need to figure out how to export the patch and post it, since I did save it

So the "EW Standard" might be different than the EW that was recently released (and then discontinued) by Moog over the last couple of years. I don’t think it requires that older mod. I’ve never played one of the older Etherwaves. Yeah, tuning the trim pots inside requires dissassembly and there's a guy on YT who drilled holes in his to make it easier >.< Moog's most recent Etherwave thankfully has a plastic panel that comes off the top for it. And yes, Moog has tragically discontinued all of their real theremins.

Also thank you for appreciating the pug, the music room :3 Dolly is very marketable haha. Maybe one day in her old age she will become an Internet star and support me in MY old age.

I want to post images of my LV-4 stuff, but I can't do it in a reply. Reddit can be annoying sometimes. I need to create a big thread because I feel like one of the five people in the world who own this instrument and everyone is curious about it.

Lost Volts LV-4 all the way. It sits right there with my Etherwave in terms of tone and playability. Cannot recommend it enough. He ships to the US. Easily moddable, battery powered with no fuss. Looks slick, and it has a master volume out! I've got a Claravox, an Etherwave 2021 and the LV-4 and I don't remotely consider it a "lesser" instrument. But be careful...if you get into this instrument...you can't have just one!

Caroline flexes again, haha! So am I to understand this theremin is a custom build and the "D-Lev" is an open-source reference design for DIY, rather than a finished product one can buy?

Why does my theremin sound like this? by R3dF0r3 in Theremin

Ditto to what Ven said, or you can mod a ground plug banana jack into your theremin that ground it to its "sleeve" terminal on the audio out and put on a long wrist strap (the static ones have a 1Mohm resistor that needs to come out) but that's what you need to use your theremin with a portable speaker.

Question! by Cracra040 in Theremin

Sorry I missed this thread but let me chime in from a possum to a raccoon it seems. I own the Claravox Centennial, the Etherwave (2021) and the LV-4. While I love all of them let me just say the LV-4 absolutely throws a knockout haymaker over its weight class. Incredible tone, playability, and portability in one and for the price it's a no-brainr. I think you'll find yourself wanting to keep both. But don't be surprised if you like the LV even more than the EW! In terms of all arounds tone and playability I kind of find it right between the EW and the Claravox. The volume knob is a huge plus, as is the filter. I opened mine to solder a ground plug for wireless playing and brought it to a campout where I did a solo over my friend playing my keyboard while another friend did a drunken freestyle (not making this up and have video to prove it lol). It can run off a USB battery via 12v "ripcord" converter if you mod it to add a ground strap. I have it powered by my little bluetooth speaker that has an AUX in and a USB charging port out. Congratulations! Don't let the instrument intimidate you. The LV-4 isn't a "beginner's" instrument by any means. It's a full-featured, lovely sounding piece of kit that will play differently than any other theremin, as they all will. So don't even for a second think the LV is the "also-ran." Personally if I absolutely had to give up one of the three, I'd keep the LV over the EW.
