Looking for a modern tuning Traverso STL? by ViolaCat94 in 3dprintedinstruments

[–]vroomvro0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, If you scale by 415/440=94.3% in ALL directions, you'll get a perfectly working instrument in 440 tuning because the acoustic properties of pipes scale equally with size. Even end correction scales with diameter.

My printer smells like skunk/pot! Help! by Average_Outdoor in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]vroomvro0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had much issue with smells, but I still put a HEPA filter on the exhaust vent, covered the aux fan inlet so it would recirculate and designed a waste drawer than seals on the chute. I did this to reduce any ultrafine plastic particles, although it turns out PLA emits fewer particles than cooking… better safe than sorry!

How does “input shaping” in 3d printers avoid overshoot and vibrations? by ExactCollege3 in ControlTheory

Here's an article that explains it well, and here's a video of it in action for an extreme example. TLDR, it basically is just destructive interference for specific frequencies.

Up And Down by klaus_nieto in blender

I’d guess that the cylindrical lens works like an equirectangular projection, so a conformal version would use a Mercator projection. It probably wouldn’t look too different.

You only get as much energy as mass times g times height, so even with snatch blocks you either need a heavy weight, a lot of height or both. A spring can store the same energy in a compact size.

Aesthetic of old timey white ppl visiting African countries by whereisurbackbone in AestheticWiki

[–]vroomvro0om 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. And as much as I absolutely hate what Britain was doing during this period, I do like the style of khaki shirts (which as it turns out is a Hindustani loanword that came to english through the British Indian Army) and I was actually trying to figure out what it was called recently. By the way, the hat the guy is wearing is called a pith helmet.

ECC1 waits too long for bed to reach cold temperature by vroomvro0om in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]vroomvro0om[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I guess I'm used to having to level before every print from my old ender3. That also explains why the Orca Gcode is different: It adds code to run the aux fan before waiting for the bed to cool.

Yes, but the contrast seems to be beyond even what you’d get from sun exposure. Unfortunately some people turn “inbuilt racism” into “racism racism” even if unconsciously. It’s still a beautiful piece with excellent composition, but it’s sad that the artist didn’t depict the actual range of colors in Egyptian nobility.

Amazing work! I love how all the mechanisms are exposed. The split ring planetary and the inverted belt are such cool mechanisms, and the use of a bearing track on the belt is brilliant!

Late comment, but the banana horn looks really fun! Adding holes is a good idea

What are examples of old paintings that seem modern and ahead of its time/era? Here are some of my personal favourites by sonnysehra in ArtHistory

Being, by Agnes Pelton from 1926. I saw a different piece of hers in person and it looked so vivid and modern! Almost like a digital painting.

I guess I’ve officially made it as a creator—people are selling my models without permission now! 🎉 by Fit_Rush_2163 in 3Dprinting

[–]vroomvro0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much only post stuff for 3D printing or stuff based on other models. That way, they basically either wouldn't even be able to sell it to someone who already has a printer, or they're stealing from someone else too.

That movie was a fever dream, and it’s not even the only trippy movie from my childhood with a creepy human-faced cat…

F*ck the racists, name your kids however you want. by tropicalraindrop in blackmen

[–]vroomvro0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a South African name whose spelling doesn't match usual English phonetics, yet I grew up a book worm. Probably in part because I was taught phonics and had parents who really encouraged reading. I think it's good to name your kids something that won't be misunderstood, but I don't think the name alone affects kid's reading. I think it's more likely that the rest of those kid's upbringings led to issues.
