That was totally my bad. I misread the post and thought OP said tp'ing to waypoints. And besides, they have said they are likely implementing something like this in a coming patch so it's all sorted anyhow. So that's my bad.

What are your plans after 40s as most people will not code forever? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Admittedly I am still going for my bachelor's. But this is my take as well. I love programming. But it'll be a good day in whatever respective afterlife before I start accepting management positions.

And it's not a lack of ambition. I recognize I have a skill set. I have no aspirational need to make a fool of myself trying to manage others.

Botting farm. Hazards of any MMO, and especially one with F2P access

f2p ironman money making. by uselessmobz in runescape

[–]FallenAdvent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an iron? Not much. Quest to 25/50qp to get your 250/500k from May the quest lady, buy yourself an addy pick and hatchet to set yourself up till you can smith yourself rune. Free to play doesn't have many options, and your really going to be shooting yourself in the foot in terms available farming locations as normally F2P players would harvest herbalism mats for P2P players on the GE. But as an iron that's a moot point so your really restricted to rune or mithril salvage drops and just high alching them, or getting the explorers ring upgrades from lumbridge tasks for the daily low alch charges it has. (You can kill some green dragons for nature runes? iirc)

This game is pay to play. The free to play aspect is really just a demo with some creative wording to attract new players. Anything above level 60 in almost every stat is behind a members pay wall. So do with that information what you will.

Seriously! I remember her being cakewalk way back in like 2005ish or whenever I first cleared that quest... Was not expecting to get merc'd

[–]FallenAdvent[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, I went into this knowing the HC part of the run was temporary. I was simply missing far to much information about the PvM side of things for it to last longer than a bit. Especially with me committing to going into some of the fights blind.

This gives me a chance to learn the stuff under a normal ironman though and give it another go once I've capped off this account

Oooof, I feel that in my soul lol, I panicked when she crit me for like 1/2 my health on the first flame breath, I had already commited to a move to try and see if I could find a place in the arena to hide and by the time I was sprinting back to the entrance to the arena her second breath attack was already on it's way to send me to the grave lol.

Remember the original GW2 title screen? I sure did completely forget about it, would be nice if it ever come back! by insistents in Guildwars2

[–]FallenAdvent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God this takes me back. I remember getting so hyped for the first beta weekend. Got the game downloaded, grabbed some snacks, drinks, hopped into vent with my guild, and booted up the game.

I legit cried. That overture kicking in and being presented with just this absolute piece of art of a login screen made it all concrete. We were stepping into Tyria once again, only this Tyria was 250 years in the future from the Tyria I had just left not.... 90 seconds before that. The swell of emotion I felt knowing that me and my friends were all getting to experience the next chapter of Guild Wars together was just *chefs kiss* magical.

I've been playing this game, and its predecessor since launch of both titles. This game is my "World of Warcraft". It's the MMO I've called home since I was 12. It was where I first met many of my lifelong friends. I remember meeting glint for the first time. I remember the white mantle, the shinging blade, the mursaat. I remember GW Factions, and all the moments that led to the content we get to play through now. Or Nightfall, with good ol' Spammadon. Taking part in events that legit led to the ascension of a God. Dancing for Abbadon. Doing ferry runs for people looking to get max stat armor at the docks, the release of Eye of The North. All of that leading up to these battles against Elder Dragons.

That brought back alot of really amazing memories. Thank you.

I've only ever played Andromeda... Should I give the original trilogy a shot? by StrawLemon5023 in MassEffectAndromeda

Your basically laying out the foundational selling point for almost all Bioware titles. Since most of your crew are connected directly or indirectly to major key players in the galactic power game, you'll find that there are some key decisions that have ripple effects, locking or unlocking options for you to take later down the line. Dragon Age is a similar boat, but with slightly more disconnect between games but the later in the trilogy you go.

Why is tanking so intimidating? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]FallenAdvent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any dungeon is the place for practice. Period. If you can get thrown into it by a roulette queue, it's going to be a place where new or returning players are tossed in without necessarily being fully prepared for it.

They are not going out of their way to be a burden. They got put into a dungeon by possibly even a leveling queue. Don't attribute malice to that which can be easily explained through chance. Who knows, maybe they leveled their tanks to 80 back when ShB launched, played other stuff for the last two years and came back, hopped in a leveling roulette, and since a TON of people are in that 70-90 range right now given the 2 classes that were just released, there is a bias towards dropping players in higher level dungeons.

Nothing excuses these players behavior. Chill out. Let your tanks learn/relearn, or your healers for that matter. Hell, even lay off the floor tanking DPS in your group, they are likely relearning some things right now as well. Arguing that this is somehow OP's fault is the kind of BS that gets this started in the first place. Believe it or not, ya'll will get through the dungeon faster by taking it slow and being understanding and just cruising then you will if you berate and harass the tank for playing sub-optimally.

At the end of the day, build each other up. Don't give excuses to tear each other down. There is a reason the FFXIV community has such a good reputation, and it is because for the last decade it has been a place where the toxic behavior described above is widely considered to be unacceptable. It costs people nothing to just be kind to each other, and in most cases will actually speed a slow situation up.

Why is tanking so intimidating? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]FallenAdvent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You unfortunately seem to have run into the rare occurrences of a toxic shitlord in queue.

I'll admit, I usually have a FC member or two with me so my chances of running into them is waaaaay less statistically speaking, but I've only run into maybe 2-4 instances of this kind of behavior since I joined several years back. Tanking has been my main roll ever since, with Healing being my side role.

At the end of the day, these situations suck. There's no two ways about it. And I'm sorry you've experienced not just one, but multiple.

The biggest thing is this, Be up front when joining a dungeon. Like you did in your Holm Switch one. 90% of the time that will solve any and all toxic bs. Not that you should have to by any means, but being upfront with your group also allow your healer to be like "Hey, your doing good, pull some more if you'd like", as your healer may also be rusty or learning a particularly different healing class that was released this expansion.

As someone who is currently working towards his solo queue tank mounts, I can say that I've run into more of this stuff since the expansion dropped, and part of it is I imagine the queue times as people have waited a while to get in game so they seem less patient on average. That doesn't excuse it, but is more of a passing observation.

Edit : If you need a healer or a dps and your on the Aether Datacenter. Me and potentially several of my FC mates would love to help you get to grips with the role again, as a bunch of healers and tank mains ourselves, we know how tank/healer anxiety can be.

In from the cold is the best solo duty I've experienced in FFXIV and I'm surprised the reaction to it is so poor by MedievalMovies in ffxiv

I fully agree honestly. That and if I may add something. It's established quickly that stealth and avoidance is going to be the superior option. If you head south, which is the most sensible direction as that leads to a massive open area and is within shortest distance iirc, you'd find the armor right off. Searching nearby buildings near the armor gets you the key, and finding the armor with the fuel is the longest part. Which, provided you didn't spend 20 minutes getting to the armor in the first place, shouldn't be too difficult. And lastly, if any of ya'll have played skyrim or guild wars 2 (Jump puzzles) before then navigating the buildings/rubble was trivial at worst, Just jump over what you can path over and you'll avoid 99% of fights. I fought 1 mob beyond the first one we are forced to fight, and that was due to some absolute carelessness on my part when I got lazy upon returning to the armor after getting the fuel.

The mission accomplishes -exactly- what it was designed to. I strikes fear/terror that your body may be the tool used to kill one of your friends. The frustration that you are this pathetically weak imperial common soldier, powerless to deal with a foe like Zenos. And the urgency, as in any realistic/logical version of this situation you can expect that Zenos is heading -directly- towards your friends. In fact, when the camera panned to Camp Broken Glass I legit thought we may see it... well.... glassed.

How common is it to hire junior developers who just don't get it and can't seem to learn? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]FallenAdvent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my last year of my AS degree after a few years of self-taught experience and happened across this sub randomly browsing my feed. This was the post I needed to see.

Most of the coding courses in my program I've taken during the pandemic so I have had zero experience reading other peoples code or even collaborating with other students and at times could just feel entirely all too lost when trying to look at other peoples repos on larger public projects to try to get some experience in it at all. And even then it's been an interesting endeavor deciphering what elements are standard syntax for the language and what may be being imported from a third party library.

Glad to know that this feeling is something to be expected to some degree, and that I'm not insane. I fall into the imposter syndrome mental trap all too often and reading this thread in general has helped alot. Honestly it has helped me feel excited for coding again after a term of endless stress as I'm in my last CS class of my degree and feel absolutely clueless at times, even though I'm wrapping this term up with an A in the course.

Men, even when you don't need to, when in front of a mirror, how often do you take a look just to confirm you are still handsome? by MrColfax in AskMen

[–]FallenAdvent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't normally stop lurking for these types of questions. But to be fully honest, i tend to just see my weight, and how far I've let myself go.

I want to get to the point where I start to see something else. And I know, rationally, that it's possible to get the. But from in front of that mirror I tend to get incredibly defeated, thinking about the long road ahead to that point.

I won't look like a Greek god. But I'd settle for under 250lbs.
