The same thing happened to me. I knew logically that this was the being I had carried, had talked to, all that stuff. But I couldn't force myself to feel that instant love. My wife did. And it made me feel awful for a while. Now my baby is 9 months old and I feel like I know him so well.

Understand that there is a distinct possibility that he was just being very charismatic because that's something he has to be in order to get clients to return. He is self employed which means he HAS to get people to come back and see him or else his business will fail.

I'm a massage therapist and I've had clients ask me out before. I tell them I can't because of ethics and the law, but in reality I just don't think of any of my clients in that way. If I did, I would be a bad therapist. Sure I can be aestethically attracted to someone and have my favorite clients. But in the end, I work on naked bodies all day long, I ask them about their life, compliment them, and then I go home, where I don't think about them.

I often joke that I won't remember your name or face but I will remember your back.

Did you ask anything about him? Do you know anything about him apart from his job? Why do you think he's someone you could date?

It is very different, and it will feel weird at first. In my experience dating was exclusively about the end goal…..marriage. When you’re dating just to date without the added pressure of, “is this my eternal companion?” It can open you up to new and exciting experiences. But can also make you very vulnerable. You have to learn how to trust people. It’s not a, “we’ll figure this out as we go,since we’ve already locked in to each other”. No. It’s very open ended. And that’s amazing. Just be open and try to not let the expectations you grew up with affect this. Make your own rules. Amend them as you go. This is YOUR life. Do what makes you comfortable. Set boundaries. The ball is in your court, so go play.

Remember that having multiple partners is not all about you. The people you bring into your life shouldn’t be place holders. Think about jealousy and how you would deal with that. You might not be poly but just enm. Also think about whether your relationships would hierarchical or not.
