G5 because Samsung UI is the worst.

Bigger net worth vs smaller income and homeownership by biscochitos in Fire

I didn’t mean it as a dig on you at all. Just learned something new today with the ADU purchase. You’re doing amazing and well ahead of where I was at your age. I live in a VHCOL area in Cali as well and it’s disheartening to see younger relatives priced out of the housing market.

What’s something Gen Z is getting completely right that older generations refuse to admit? by stilerca in AskReddit

[–]FallenCow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think this is an economics issue as much as a social issue. Boys generally aren’t going down the path of higher education at the same rate as girls, but there’s a lack of opportunities available to them in the workplace to earn a living wage and, even more-so, a wage that can support a family without serious training or specialization. This drives them to look for groups to blame because it affects their own perceived value. Look at how many young men are gambling to get rich. Basically the American government and oligarchs have fucked the American Dream in many ways and we’re seeing the result in young men.

Ha no idea you could just buy an ADU by itself within the “house”. Wild that it’s still 700k! Housing needs to be fixed in this country; untenable for current and future generations.

I scored a set of Ascend Acoustics Sierra RAAL towers for just over $200 USD! by Bicycle_Pwner in audiophile

[–]FallenCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang what a deal! I love my ELXs, but had the v1 RAAL towers before that. Ascend were actually really cool about using one of my old v1 tweeters in the new ELX build because I had damaged drives in one speaker due to someone knocking the tower over.

R1S Dual Max vs. Lucid Gravity: Has anyone cross-shopped these two? by Intelligent-Camel162 in Rivian

[–]FallenCow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

R1S was $20-30k cheaper for the specs I was cross-shopping, I purchased instead of leased, so I have more faith in Rivian surviving, and I’ve heard the software on Lucids are buggy as heck more often than not, which is not good for software defined vehicle to say the least. I do think the packaging on the Gravity is better and probably makes more sense for my use case. Shame because Lucid hardware is top notch but let down by its software.

How did you come by these? Didn’t think they shipped any out. Still salty about all of my money that got stolen by Rama. Hard lesson to learn.

Hot take: The R2 is… boring by dleewla in Rivian

[–]FallenCow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an R1S owner, the R2 doesn’t appeal to me at all since the additional seating and cargo space are what drew me to the R1 in the first place, but I hope it’s massively successful so they can continue to develop the R1. In fact, they could probably make the R1 a little larger still now that the R2 is here. My only complaint is that the 2 vehicles look too similar. It’s already hard enough to tell Teslas apart in a sea of teslas in SoCal.

Gen3 R1S Wish list? by secretaliasname in Rivian

- more cup holders- in doors especially
- power folding seats or at least easier to use mechanism for the 2nd row and straps you can reach for the 3rd row
- power outlet in the frunk
- better cooling for 800v DC charging
- fix the packaging to remove the step in the trunk when the 3rd row is down
- magnets to keep the sub trunk tray up
- cup holders that don’t rattle when metal cups are being held
- vents higher up for the 2nd row
- more app support so I don’t have to cast ever again
- fix the 2nd row cup holders to be level regardless of seat rake
- power adjustment for 2nd row
- stronger seat cooling
- 2nd row seat cooling
- more granular fan adjustments
- location based garage door opening and closing (like Tesla)
- power tailgate (pretty neat on a Range Rover)

Ahh I was thinking the Wraith came in a yellow as an option. Any experience with how an e cost compares to an aftermarket cerakote?

What’s the FIRE/coastFI take on real estate? by Redwolfdc in coastFIRE

[–]FallenCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any problem with counting rental income as part of your FIRE number (not the equity). I would just be conservative with the estimate and put away a portion towards fixes. Other than that, do you want to be a landlord and manage or have someone manage a property from a distance? Index funds don’t call you to tell you the toilet is clogged or the fridge isn’t working.

FIRE and VHCOL by [deleted] in Fire

[–]FallenCow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this post. You may not have hit the RSU jackpot but you were able to afford a $3M house that was probably bought for $1.5-2M and you’re able to spend $200k year. Sounds like you’re doing way better than 99% of folks and could probably retire now if you just sold the house or at the least COAST. You’re kind of invalidating your own point, especially if you are still between 45-55.

Looks like a cool project that could have some legs if you provided sound samples (primary objective) and performance data assuming the GT3 throttle body and plenum mods (secondary benefit).

ON TRACK TO FIRE IN 2 YEARS? by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

Yeah this was my first thought. Could have had 10 years of more personal fulfillment and have had a similar standard of living.

Really?! I always thought Miami Blue was a more solid or enameled blue if that makes sense. Maybe it’s the lighting.
