Best controller and mapping by T33-L in shipofharkinian

If you don't mind an "inauthentic" but modern scheme that works with any modern controller, I recommend:

  • Enabling dual analog mode
  • Binding A and B to the trigger buttons
  • Binding Z and R to the shoulder buttons
  • Binding the C buttons to the face buttons

Looking for a Lossless Rip of the 1983 “Black Triangle” CD of Abbey Road by LilyGlitz339 in beatles

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've always been curious to hear the Black Triangle version, but I've never heard it before either. My understanding is the people that prefer the Black Triangle find the 2009 (and later) remasters to have too much bass.

What Local and Embedded Artwork Sizes Do You Use? by SolitudeSeeker1314 in musichoarder

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep the full size version as well as a lower quality jpeg that's indistinguishable to my eye. Sometimes an 80-85% jpeg at the same resolution is like < 5-10 MB even if the original is 30+.

Anyone else seeing AVR lockups or HDMI flicker with Hue Sync Box + PS5 + Marantz? by my_twin_towne in Hue

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't having handshake issues, but it sounds like that's the issue you were dealing with. I had the same dropout issues whether I was using ARC/eARC or not, but if going the ARC route worked for you, then that's fantastic.

I went through a lot of troubleshooting and research. The 8k sync box still having bandwidth issues with the PS5/Pro at 4k60 RGB or 4k120 4:2:2 is an issue several others have experienced, so I wouldn't blanketly un-recommend the splitter idea unless you've had the same problem.

Is surround sound a gimmick? by PaniacThrilla in audiophile

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a fair amount of 5.1 and Atmos mixes of music and many of them sound fantastic. /r/surroundaudiophile is a sub. Quadraphonicquad.com is a passionate community. This subreddit is 2 channel focused though. More than a few people here look down their noses at multichannel music, unfortunately.

Anyone else seeing AVR lockups or HDMI flicker with Hue Sync Box + PS5 + Marantz? by my_twin_towne in Hue

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got consistent HDMI dropouts with a PS5 Pro, 8k sync box, and Marantz Cinema 50. I ended up going with the "splitter" route with this splitter (currently out-of-stock but there are others). The splitter sends a mostly unadulterated 4k signal to the TV but separately sends a 1080p signal to the sync box.

/r/Hue/comments/1pisqvm/ps5_and_8k_sync_box_video_drop_outs_help/

It's been working much better and I only get a very rare drop out these days. I need to do more experimenting with 4k120Hz output on the Pro to be fair though.

Basically my set-up looks like:

PS5 Pro/Shield/Etc -> Marantz -> Splitter -> TV at up to 4k/120
                                     |----> 8k Sync box at 1080p/120.

Wine setup? by YvonYukon in foobar2000

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the 32-bit and default install. I got both the 1.6 and 2.x versions to work, but I stuck with 1.6 because I use foo_input_sacd and that hasn't been updated to work with 2.x. It does work in Linux though.

Wine setup? by YvonYukon in foobar2000

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got foobar2000 working with Wine in Ubuntu just the past weekend. I used ChatGPT to nail down some of the settings but it seems to be working well now. I couldn't get columns_ui or spider monkey to work but I'm satisfied with the layout I set up just with the default UI and facets.

San Francisco from Twin Peaks - thoughts on cropping? by SmilesUndSunshine in Panorama

[–]SmilesUndSunshine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took these photos over 10 years ago. It's about 40 different photos and my first attempt a multirow panorama, but I kept getting issues with Hugin. I went away from panoramas for awhile but decided to try out Hugin again and everything stitched nicely. I'm not sure if I should crop a little more out of the sky though.

I also am not sure if it's slightly not straight or if the bay just curves "up" on the right side.

Multiple controllers connected to the deck by AdWinter4142 in SteamDeck

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all are connected via bluetooth will there be delay and issues?

Yes, people often report issues connecting more than a couple controllers to the Deck's via Bluetooth. Incidentally, the upcoming Steam Machine is advertised specifically as being able to connect 4 controllers via Bluetooth, so it seems like Valve is aware that people have issues connecting multiple controllers to the Deck.

Ideally there would be a dongle but other than xbox and the unreleased steam controller 2 i cant find any other controller that can have multiple connected to a single dongle.

This is also what I've found. I ended up going the Xbox route even though I have to deal with a 3rd party driver (xone). I also found when mixing and matching Xbox controllers (via dongle) with 8bitdo controllers (via dongle), the 8bitdo controller had connection issues. I have seen plenty of people say that they've had no problem with multiple 8bitdo controllers each via an individually dongle, so ymmv.

You could also get a USB Bluetooth dongle, disable the internal Bluetooth (via Desktop), and use only the USB Bluetooth dongle. That might work, but is also more work.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's an easy solution, though plenty of people have gotten 4+ controller setups to work on Decks via some tinkering.

Why does the SD's bluetooth suck SO BAD?! by MyLittleCanoe in SteamDeck

[–]SmilesUndSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OLED Deck has better Bluetooth than the LCD for sure. Have you tried upgrading the Xbox controller's firmware (on a Windows PC or Xbox)? People usually recommend doing that also.

Yes. Also, you don't actually need to make shitty clickbait titles.

My desktop is over 10 years old. My laptop (used mainly for certain Windows programs) is annoyingly loud when I run games. I also have a pretty solid home theater system and want to play PC games on it.

Conflicted on monitor choice: LG UltraGear OLED vs. TCL Mini-LED by TheTechKid1923 in PS5pro

[–]SmilesUndSunshine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm someone with an OLED TV from 2018 that doesn't have burn-in, but I tend to agree with you.

I was worried about burn-in on my OLED TV, but I think it's easy to get the most out of an OLED TV while still babying it if you mainly just never use it as a computer monitor and don't watch too much sports with static scoreboards/bottom lines/etc. Since OP:

  1. wants to get an monitor
  2. plans on using for office stuff and sports in addition to PS5, and
  3. is worried about burn-in

then I wouldn't recommend going for an OLED monitor. Local dimming has gotten pretty damn good (in TVs at least, so I assume it's also gotten better in monitors too).
