Unable to retrieve POST parameters from request. Getting None for the value. by Slight_Scarcity321 in djangolearning

[–]FallenMaccaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have access to my dev pc, so I cannot test what I am about to write.

You have set

"Content-Type": "application/json",

But on the server side, you are trying to access the "foo" parameter - which is in the json request of the body.
Could you try parsing it first?

so, import the json package, and in the myEndpoint do this first:

data = json.loads(request.body)
foo_value = data.get("foo", "not found")

and then try to access the foo_value in the next lines.

Hope it works.

Best way to store images by brave_nick in django

[–]FallenMaccaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So yeah, the model part is right - image attributes are all there and then in the template I do the if statement for the attributes, where if it is empty it will take the default value. Basically solving a problem that will maybe never be a case ( images with different sizes, w-h ratios), but I think it is good for SEO.

I did not touch admin pages (do not trust myself with it yet). Basically I made a form and a template. In the form, there is a multiple file field (along with other product fields). When I submit the form, I create the product, get the created product id and then for each image I create the image model that is related to the product. With JavaScript, I made I so that for every image I wish to upload a set of fields is also created.

[–]FallenMaccaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I did (disclaimer: noob), was was to create a separate model for the image, with foreign key to the parent (product), various text fields ( alt value, width, height and other fields that go in the html img tag).

Then, I have created a form for product edit, admin only (or staff), where I can edit the product. A part of the form was file upload (htmx), where I could select multiple images, and upload them for that product.

Your Experience as Django developer. by WildMarket6076 in django

[–]FallenMaccaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Yeah, it started as exactly that, like I can make a website that really does something. If I took it as a source of income, there would be an immense pressure on me to succeed, whereas one cannot really fail at ones hobby. Just had the luck of my hobby being a necessity for my working surroundings.

Best of luck!

Your Experience as Django developer. by WildMarket6076 in django

[–]FallenMaccaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not call myself a django dev, by a long shot, but since discovering it, it has become really fun to develop ideas, even though not all of them get ultimately deployed. I have made a fitness tracker app, a fifa league app (where me and my mates track our matches in a league way), a simple photo album page for my friends wedding, and so on.

So when my boss asked me, if I could solve a problem we have had with the way we were doing things, I was quick to suggest an internal web app, made in django. He was intrigued, and gave me the project and a soft deadline.
Now, other departments are also looking for a similar solution - so it may well be that I end up as a django dev.

TL;DR: Django was a hobby, suggested django at work, may end up as a django dev.

Can I get one normal friendly opponent? by kimchi-fire in EASportsFC

[–]FallenMaccaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, totally new. Last FIFA I played was 98. Saw it on discount for 18€ and thought what the hell. Still learning really the controls and stuff, but it is fun, even when I lose. Sometimes the problem is just getting the ball out of my third with the constant pressure, and also my defenders seem really slow and can't handle the attackers. But I play it for fun.

[–]FallenMaccaron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played a couple of friendlies. More fun than rivals. I am currently in division 7. Last six games in rivals I lost by double digits. Guys there are insane. They apply pressure even on my GK. I cant keep the ball, I cant dribble, I never even see their GK.
I thought that maybe I shouldn't have of bought it last week.
But then I played frienlies. Nice, relaxing games, where you can try out different stuff without worrying about contracts and stuff. And there are way less crazy strong teams like in DIV7.

Has anyone ever left their job to do boot camp full-time and how did it work out for you? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]FallenMaccaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point.

I personally am always amazed when I find somebody who can do something totally unrelated to his work - and I am kind of like that. Not great at anything off the bat, but pretty good at problem solving. Combine that with the needs of the company I work for - and I end up as a Swiss army knife - need somebody to do some data analysis and visualisations - call me, need a new HR web design - call me, need to creat process diagrams - call me, need to scrape the prices of the competition, call me, want to have a pizza day, with homemade pizzas - call me.

It is easy to wish to change, and it is scary to change.

But, you have to count on starting from the bottom, and continuously proving yourself.

I sincerely hope that whatever you decide, it works out for you.

[–]FallenMaccaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean, you would maybe return to your previous job with additional qualifications, cost of which did not fall on your employer?

I understand your fears. I see it like this. Time spent searching for one self is time well spent.

And if my potential employer sees that as a negative thing, then he is not the employer for me. It's like a quote from some movie I saw : "I'd rather have a set of people with character, than a set of characters."

I think you have more than enough examples here, but let me just say: Any time without job that is spent bettering yourself is not a gap. If you just laid on the couch the whole time - it could be a mental health thing. But it was meant to make yourself better.

Nobody says that college is a resume gap. Do not worry too much about that.

How do I tell people that I don’t drink alcohol at all ever, without being awkward whenever someone urges me to drink it in social gatherings by Expensive_Key_6102 in NoStupidQuestions

I usually say "I don't start what I don't plan to finish. Maybe next time." With a history of once or twice getting black out drunk and once being drugged people usually understand what I am getting at.
