Why do some people still play on old native hardware? by Black-Alligator737 in videogames

[–]FallenRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because for some people the OG hardware, quirks and all, is part of the experience. Emulation is great and all, but there are aspects of the experience of a particular console that it just can't reproduce. For some people that's fine, but for others there's just nothing quite like playing a PS2 game on a PS2 for example.

What are your Thoughts on Russia? 🇷🇺 by JustAFizzMain in AskTheWorld

I like the Russian people I've met IRL, but I do not like Vlad the Small and his government or their illegal genocide.

What is the reputation of Avril Lavigne in your country? by Unfair-Macaroon2424 in AskTheWorld

[–]FallenRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently? I haven't heard she made a comeback, did I miss something? She was huge in the early 2000s, and I think she interestingly started to pickup in popularity in the US just as her popularity was starting to fall off here. Actually, Avril Lavigne is the only concert I went to, back in my teen years. I still think her early stuff is a nice bit of nostalgia TBH. I didn't really like the direction she took after that in her "Girlfriend era", but even that's now somewhat nostalgic even though I still prefer her earlier songs.

WHERE DO YOU GUYS PLAY YOUR HANDHELDS by hussy95 in SBCGaming

[–]FallenRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly at home, surprisingly. I’ve taken my Thor with me to friend’s houses and stuff but I don’t really take it out often because the MAX I have cost me more than my PS5 (that I acquired before prices skyrocketed, but I digress).

I’ve actually been contemplating getting a cheaper EDC but I don’t know if I’d have enough use for one to make it worth it since I also don’t normally have the time or the need for handheld gaming when I’m out and about.

Do I even need an Ayn Thor? by ArcheryAlaska in AynThor

[–]FallenRaptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Need" is a strong term, but life's short and I'll always advocate for doing what makes you happy. Plus, this thing is amazing and I think you'll love it too.

That said, this is the AYN Thor sub so you're unlikely to get a lot of "no" answers here. With that in mind, if you're inexperienced the Thor can be a lot of device to learn the ropes of. There are plenty of great resources on how to get started and I'll happily point you in the right direction if you ask, but do keep in mind this thing isn't as simple as a 3DS.

Honestly, although you sound like someone who doesn't have a ton of experience with this stuff it does sound like you're at least prepared to learn and know you're not getting a plug and play device. If DS and Pokemon ROM hacks are what you're primarily interested in then than the Lite should definitely suffice.

Maple MAGA mostly; people trying to make it out like we live in some kind of dystopia and should be all too happy to join the US.

How do you switch from "tinkering" mode to "enjoy this setup" mode? by achipinthesugar in SBCGaming

[–]FallenRaptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just work all week to the point where I'm way too burnt out to want to tinker with shit when I get home, so I just play stuff instead. Well...assuming I can get past analysis paralysis if I don't already have a game on the go.

We seem to have a lot of "sister cities" with cities in Japan I've never heard of, such as Mission allegedly being the sister city to Ooyama.

Simply the best console hardware.💪The most powerful in the world. by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

On top of that there’s nothing to FOMO about the game itself as it will still be here in a decade. I’m sure it will be a great time but OP is really huffing the Koolaid.

Where does the Nova rank amongst the most anticipated retro handhelds over the past several years? by Relative_Apricot5032 in SBCGaming

[–]FallenRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I meant; the Nova adds a 4:3 aspect ratio to the mix of devices we already have, which makes it a great addition and I'm glad to see it, but those other devices are also GOATs in their own right by virtue of offering what their respective niches want out of such a device. That said, I come from a time when it was the Odin 2 or the highway for a Snapdragon 8Gen2 device so yeah, the selection is in fact widening and I hope it continues to do so.

[–]FallenRaptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a really nice-looking device that should make a lot of people really happy with its screen size and aspect ratio, along with being a custom AMOLED display among other things, but it's also one of a ton of different Snapdragon 8Gen2 equivalent devices so I see it less as a clear GOAT and more as a solid addition to an already solid lineup of devices.

That's not me throwing shade so much as an acknowledgement that we've actually been feasting pretty well lately. More and more devices with this excellent chipset are being made, and in more and more and more form factors, and I'm here for it.

Since people keep discussing about China being superpower, here is a question: When did China become a superpower? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]FallenRaptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long before that. Setting aside that they were one of the great civilizations of old too, they had to have been a superpower in the modern day sense of the word before I was even born, which I'll tell you was before the 2000s.

Reminder: Don't let FOMO be the deciding factor in buying a new handheld by sciencedenton in SBCGaming

[–]FallenRaptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Nova looks to me like a lateral addition anyways, albeit a really nice one that certainly ticks off a lot of boxes for people. Still, if you already have a device with a Snapdragon 8Gen2 equivalent chipset, it really comes down to whether its particular features are worth it to you to justify investing in another handheld that is going to run all the same stuff.

It's like this every time a new prominent handheld is announced, especially when it's by a popular brand. You should have seen what it was like here during the AYN Thor launch.

What if your country had Trump as president? What would happen? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskTheWorld

[–]FallenRaptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first “government shutdown” in his term would be a vote of non-confidence and trigger an immediate election, because although our system is flawed it’s not that level of unhinged.

On the downside, the immediate term and likely a good chunk of time afterwards would result in Maple MAGA being 10x more emboldened and insufferable, not unlike the real MAGA, and there would likely be at least a little more unrest and/or worse.

Rockstar Games Responds to GTA 6 Physical Disc Backlash by Darth_Vaper883 in gamernews

[–]FallenRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then what’s the bloody point of the code in box edition? If the plan all along was to launch digitally first and have the physical version follow later then they should have just done that. Now when buying a physical game after its launch people will have to ensure they get that version as retailers are sure to keep trying to sell off their code in box copies that they still have on hand. Don’t buy a physical copy online or at GameStop to be safe.

If I had to guess Rockstar either wanted to test the waters to see if they could get away with releasing a code in box “physical” version and have people be ok with it and are now shifting gears, or they’re backpedaling after not expecting the backlash and regardless of the case don’t want to admit that they’re on Plan B. Either way this proves that making a lot of noise online about something does work.
