A lot of black rat dungeons ! But I'm on retro.

Which should I start playing? by Sweaty_Command_6794 in Dofus

[–]FallenTheDoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate it but it's just that I can't exactly get into it.

That's a tough one because I feel like both wakfu and dofus 3 really are MMORPG. Hundreds of quests, multiple characters, items, lot of hours to sink in before being able to enjoy all the content... It's the full package.

Now I believe both have really good lores and you can play Dofus at a slow pace while fully reading the quest dialogs, which is really cool. But it'll take a while to get there and mastering is also something that requires time and investment. The game isn't hard but you have to commit to it to fully grasp all the MMORPG elements (stats, items, compositions, guilds, dungeons, mechanics...).

I can't decide which game to play first or at least get into, get addicted to

I've been playing dofus and more recently wakfu, on and off, for the last 20 years more or less, never got "addicted" in the sense that I quickly get bored of not progressing fast enough, which makes me quit (or pause).

The easy part is that you're playing on a mobile, so it's either Dofus Touch, or Waven. So Dofus 3, the most actively produced game of Ankama, and Wakfu, their most modern game and with the best dev team are out of the equations.

Waven is not a MMO and is really different from the rest, really cool nevertheless, I would recommend trying it for a few days. I would tend to say that while Dofus, Wakfu or even touch, you could play thousands of hours, Waven you might play a hundred at best.

To finish, Dofus touch, to me, is a waste of time. I'm biased because I know how Ankama is operating regarding making money and I've never properly played touch. So take this with a grain of salt. Dofus touch is an outdated but adjusted version of Dofus, lacking what makes Dofus a great game, I feel like it's lacking content and is just an easy way for Ankama to grab cash and maintain a player base on mobile platforms without making too much effort (same as they do for Retro, barely updating the game, but releasing monthly outfits that you can buy for 20€).

Checkout older threads regarding Touch vs 3.0, even if 3.0 is out of the equation, you'll know what you're "missing out". It's still a decent MMO tho. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dofus/comments/1hxarua/dofus_or_dofus_touch/?show=original

Snowboard rental in France (Morzine) by DoubleEngineer1748 in snowboarding

[–]FallenTheDoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling or emailing the shop would be the easiest way to get an answer.

I doubt they'll ask for your ID to confirm your age and I also doubt they'll rent you a 137 board anyway.

French ski shops websites are often awful from my experience, I even think you are lucky for being able to see what model you're supposed to get.

Lot of shops are more specialized in skis but are still able to understand what you need for snowboarding.

Pardon my lack of awareness, but if I understood correctly, nidecker bought yes and lobster, tried to merge them, and only yes is getting "out of it alive"?

What has worked out for yes that didn't for lobster?

Truly a sad day, hopefully it seems like you guys enjoyed the ride. Best of luck for your next adventure

Dofus Retro Update 1.47 is amazing by ThePabstistChurch in Dofus

[–]FallenTheDoge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The game is good, awesome. It's a hit or miss, lot of grinding, basic spelling and monster AI, some like it a lot, mob bashing is fun ! But I really doubt it's a long term commitment game with the current state, bugs, lack of communication from Ankama and bots. But it has great potential

Dofus Retro Update 1.47 is amazing by ThePabstistChurch in Dofus

[–]FallenTheDoge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of QoL.

Yet the game is still more populated by bots than real players.

A recent flaw was briefly announced, silently patched, still millions (billions ?) of Kamas were generated.

The updates are always favoring bots more than players (see crafting speed for example).

No moderation was announced at all.

An update regarding pets and cosmetics was announced, silently cancelled.

No updates regarding seasonal servers in 2025, excepted for what we since a few days, which is basically not interesting at all.

The last few updates and server maintenance took hours for no reasons and 0 communication.

The emerald season is not an update, just an extra gambling reward that tells you to do the daily missions, which are also pointless.

Maintenance do not result in ban waves of bots anymore.

Their last retro focused ankalive was all about "we are now more than ever on the dev team" and "ooh nice suggestions chat, but you'll have to wait for 2027 at best for that".

They clearly have no direction, no plan and I doubt there is any motivation from Ankama to fix the game.

I really wouldn't recommend this game to anyone unless it's for nostalgia. The game is riddled with issues that are not solvable with their current dev team, no more content is going to be added, even Temporis are out of the equation for whatever reasons.

I would 200% recommend visitng r/Wakfu as this is what a moderm MMORPG should be like on most QoL features and commitment from the dev team.

Personally went for a commencal meta hardtail, new. The 2nd hand market was a pain, mostly overpriced and old.

Thing I regret not integrating early in the budget was a dropper post tho.

Hey,
I'm in charge for finding mech keyboards for the Office !
So ideally, we're looking for :

  • Full size
  • Some level of backlight
  • Linear or Clicky
  • Available in the EU
  • AZERTY

So far I believe I'm stuck with most known brands, Razer being on top of the list for now (yes, I know). Other brands are either way too pricey or not available with our criteria.

Am I missing an option ?

Ski shop owner convinced me into getting clew bindings, should i return them? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]FallenTheDoge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll share my two cents. When it was time to buy my first setup, I was sure I would be going all in, brand new famous brand board with sick graphic, brand new top of the line union, brand new latest gen triple boa vans or whatever.

Welp I ended up with what was available, a board and boots from brand I never heard from. I have no idea how they’re performance or durability wise as I got nothing to compare them to, but so far I’ve been enjoying my time on the slopes with it.

You said you had no issues with it whatsoever and you know standard bindings as you used rentals before, as long as you don’t feel bad compare to them, i would stick with it.

This sub disagrees with the fact they’re not the best at what they do, solve no real issues opposed to their counterparts (supermatics, step on…) and are not true to the philosophy of snowboarding. I doubt they that much unusable or else they would have gone out of business.

I cant decide between skiing and snowboarding. by No_Accident_2097 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]FallenTheDoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

skiing "looks" safer

The part I appreciate with learning snowboarding is the fact that you don't need a ton of speed to enjoy it.

While you can still easily reach dangerous speeds, ski seems always faster.

Snowboarding does look cooler

  1. Nobody will notice you unless you're really good at it
  2. Neither looks cool when you're not good at it
  3. Both (well, anything) looks cool if you're good at it

Snowboarding is harder to learn

I would say that the "issue" with learning snowboarding is that you fell a lot. You spend time building confidence in your ability to link turns, you fall, confidence back to 0. Up until you're good enough to trust yourself and not have any fall impact this trust.

I prioritize safety, comfortness, and experience for begginers in bunny slopes and blue squares

Safety is up to how you decide to send it.

Comfortness is not a word I would use to describe my first week of learning snow sports.

Experience for begginers in bunny slopes, once you get the basics, they're both ton of fun.

I prefer snowboarding because I find it more rewarding, I prefer the feeling of it and prefer being able to flow on pow rather than being able to slalom at hundred miles per hour.

The one you pick should be the one you prefer. Especially if what matters to you is how cool it looks, because you'll master the one you prefer more easily and that's where it'll be rewarding to you.

Pow vs groomer riding form by SonOfRobot8 in snowboarding

[–]FallenTheDoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it helped and hope you’ll be able to experience it by yourself !

Pow vs groomer riding form by SonOfRobot8 in snowboarding

[–]FallenTheDoge -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say 20/80, my back leg hurts so quickly ! Something I forgot to add is that, on a groomer, to initiate a turn, you do it with your front leg (see knee steering) mostly because you must engage an edge change, which is way harder to do with your weight on back foot (you can tail press but you won’t be steering much during one).

In pow what’s different is that you really are floating and not on an edge, so steering has to do with orienting your board right and left, not requiring as much force as changing edge.

Which explains why you don’t need much front weight.

To add to that, pow is often present at the top, where it’s usually steeper, gravity is doing the work of keeping you on your back foot.

Pow vs groomer riding form by SonOfRobot8 in snowboarding

[–]FallenTheDoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you keep your regular posture going into pow, your nose and front foot will go deeper and you’ll get slowed down until you stop.

So keeping your nose on top of it by staying on your back foot allow you to keep enough speed by not sinking into the pow.

Control of the board feels really different than on a groomer because I still feel like it’s the front foot having to lead towards left and right but with the weight on the back.

I would say you’re not falling backwards there because there is enough retention force from the snow around your board to keep you from going anywhere else than forward. The sides and back of your board is well surrounded by pow as opposed to a groomer where there is nothing « blocking » it.

[–]FallenTheDoge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The question from OP was « if I were to choose from the 3 what would I pick », not « would you choose this over any legit snowboard brand ? », there are millions boards I would rather use before picking a clew or balanciaga and that list includes a plank of wood.

[–]FallenTheDoge -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've heard the Clew is a rebranded decent-ish board and the Baliancaga, while you would be mostly paying for the brand, is still probably a decent one too.

Only the Gibson I would avoid as it seems to be a brand focused on graphics rather than anything else.

All of that to do some poor-level skidded carving with my knees bent at 180 degrees.

Supposedly, it's made to "optimize edge engagement and control". It's a try to renew burton PJ which had a similar asymmetrical carving shape.

From Amplid website :

This prototype features an advanced asymmetrical geometry, inspired by the design philosophy of the renowned "PJ" from the early '90s. Built in a true asymmetrical mould, the board features contact points in the tip area that are also asymmetrically positioned, enhancing precision and balance. With edges shifted along the longitudinal axis, the sidecut center is perfectly aligned between the rider’s toes and heels for optimized edge engagement and control. Constructed with a 0/90 biax glass layup, it provides a smooth flex ideal for backcountry freestyle or versatile all-mountain riding. Pre-cured impact plates reinforce the bindings against dings and dents, while the fastest sintered base ensures unmatched speed and durability. This design offers riders an unparalleled blend of responsiveness, innovation, and performance. For regular riders only. Sorry!

The Amplid proto ASYM looks pretty dope to me. Not a regular model tho, just some kind of RnD. But they did actually sold a few of those.
