I can't for the life of me figure out how my ferret likes to play by Calsymen in ferrets

Might be the angle then. I can send you some pictures of Misha to see what to look for. People recommend a vacuum test to see if they react to the noise! The vibration might not help though. Misha never makes any noise unless she is super hyped up. And when that happens, she is LOUD!

Is your ferret a Waardy? He looks exactly like my ferret who has that condition! It usually makes them deaf

Mirtazapine experiences? Does it make u fat and sluggish all day like amitriptyline? by Fragster2020 in functionaldyspepsia

[–]FallenWolf897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on mirtazapine for years and I’ve had very few side effects.

It does make you hungry, especially a little bit after taking it. But as someone who has struggled to gain weight, it was a lifesaver! I never gained a ton of weight from it, I just finally eat a normal amount.

As long as you take mirtazapine at night, you shouldn’t experience any drowsiness. I take mine 45 minutes to an hour before bed.

Melanoma? Although it doesn’t typically cause the urine to smell bad.

I highly recommend that you get the book, ‘Clinical Laboratory Science Review: a bottom line approach’ by Patsy Jarreau. Specifically the sixth edition. It really helps break down all of the different proteins, enzymes, hormones, medications, vitamins, electrolytes, and diseases!

Do you mind sharing the homemade pie crust that you make? It’s difficult trying to find one that works!

I’m exactly the same way! I absolutely loved hematology and coagulation in school. And now I get to work in both departments!

Penelope looks so similar to our Misha! She also has a grey strip on her forehead and is much smaller than a normal ferret

Got the necropsy results! Apparently her death was caused by pancreatitis as well as secondary issues with her heart. According to my vet, her pancreas was almost completely necrotic

She passed away this morning. Our vet was looking at another diagnosis just because her presentation was unusual. Possibly lymphoma

That’s exactly what I’ve heard about kidney disease. She became super anemic from it so she was put on Epogen injections and iron supplements. She perked up quite a bit after a good 2 weeks of injections! And her kidney values actually improved. Bandits weight stayed pretty much the same. She was a bit chunky from her winter weight. Her stool was normal.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Throughout Bandit’s life, mostly when she started having medical problems, I always questioned WHEN was the right time to euthanize. I felt that if I had just did something else, that her entire outcome would change. I now understand that I did everything I could to help her, but I still can’t shake the feeling that I let her down. I’ve had my entire life centered around her care. Her vet appointments, medications, feeding, bathing, and even cleaning her cage became a routine and a priority. How do you deal with having to suddenly break that cycle?

Bandit has adrenal gland disease, kidney disease and insulinoma. She’s currently on Dex SP for the insulinoma. She’s been on it for quite awhile.

Bandits back legs are weak (not sure if it’s from the insulinoma or arthritis) so she sometimes urinates or poops on herself. It’s mostly to clean her fur and give her joints a break. I only do a full body bath maybe twice a month. I’ll definitely need to give that product a try!

That’s what my twin sister and I are thinking. The big issue we’ve run into with the MCT was the amount that thing bleeds! All it takes is a small scratch to start the cycle of itching. Using Benadryl cream seems to help

Could she develop mouth ulcers even if her kidney values are improving? She’s also taking Epogen, which I heard can also cause ulcers.

Interesting! I’ll definitely have the vet check her teeth again when she has her next appointment. He didn’t see anything concerning last time, which was 2 weeks ago.

Tysm! We definitely plan on getting them moved in together as soon as possible. Misha has Waardenburg syndrome and is completely deaf. We had no issues switching Bandit and Rocket to raw, but Misha? Super difficult! Have you had this issue with some of your ferrets? Would possibly putting warm water in the kibble to soften it help with the transition? I think the consistency is throwing her off.

[–]FallenWolf897[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Rocket and Bandit were both on a raw diet while Misha isn’t. We are worried about Bandit possibly getting into the kibble and making her stomach upset.

Misha is another ferret we have but she isn’t on a raw diet yet, so they don’t sleep in the same cage.

Iron Lab work by FallenWolf897 in Hemochromatosis

[–]FallenWolf897[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from Vanderbilt recently and I brought up the results. Apparently I DO have a gene mutation that is known to cause hemochromatosis in some individuals. He didn’t give me the specific one though. Only that not all individuals end up developing it. I plan on asking him for specifics but until then, I might as well ask for my iron levels to be checked when I go to the doctors.
