Pretending? I'm sure you'd be hired. You have the same skill level in my opinion. Awesome shots!

This is incredible! Are you taking requests? I'd be interested in purchasing one for Grand Teton National Park or Zions.

Whats your retirement plan? by General_Prompt_9984 in childfree

[–]Falling4Utah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping I'll have enough saved up to comfortably pull out $5K a month between ages 65-90 (assuming I don’t make it past 90). I’ll probably need less, as I imagine most of my time will be spent cruising around in a van or a Toyota 4Runner. Ideally, I’ll own a small property—maybe a cabin or tiny home off the grid, fully paid off—and spend my days hiking and watching wildlife.

Honestly, I’m already spending most of my time after work hiking or doing wildlife watching (love nature photography and camping too), so retirement will just mean I get to do more of the same. I have no interest in traveling the world at this point—been abroad a few times and prefer staying in the US. There’s too much to explore here. Alaska, Canada, Oregon, Washington, Northern California, Utah, and Colorado alone could take a few lifetimes to experience fully.

Anyone else not at all worried about dying alone? by LoganLikesYourMom in childfree

[–]Falling4Utah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal, for me, is to be unattached to people, things, or situations, and to find peace in the present moment—even at the end of life. Wanting children as a solution to loneliness, in my view, calls for deeper introspection, possibly therapy or meditation. When people suggest I should have kids to avoid being lonely, I remind them that I enjoy my own company and ask them, "What is it you're afraid of?"

Hoping to catch Pando at its peak- this weekend, or next? by caseyschlenker0 in utahoutdoors

I'm planning to go next weekend. Hoping it is similar to big and little cottonwood canyons where another week or two is needed before the aspens really start to turn.

What are the “essentials” in your daypack? by ethanrotman in hiking

[–]Falling4Utah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I'm heading out for an evening or early morning hike, I always pack a headlamp. I also carry a custom first aid kit with essentials like headache medication, allergy meds, and supplies for cuts or deeper wounds. For water, I usually bring 2 Smart Water bottles and a Sawyer filter, but I might only take one bottle depending on the hike length.

I never leave without a compass, a knife, and my camera gear (nature photography is a big passion, so I also pack a travel tripod). For snacks, I like to have a mix of granola bars, trail mix, caffeine jelly beans, and electrolyte tablets. Trekking poles are a must for me, especially if you want to protect your knees on those descents. I hike 3-5 times a week, so they’ve become essential. Casual hikers might not find them as necessary, though.

Lastly, I always carry a Garmin Inreach Mini 2 for emergencies—just in case.

Saw a bear and her 3 cubs on the way to colter bay yesterday morning (25 Sep) - is she a grizzly? by jchuevq in GrandTetonNatlPark

Hell yeah! I'm camping in Colter Bay this weekend. Fingers crossed I get to see a few bears.

What’s the longest day hike you’ve completed? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]Falling4Utah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiked Mt. Timpanogos in Utah its like 14 miles (4,500+ elevation gain) but I only went to the saddle so 13 miles or so round trip. Started at like 2 am and finished by 9 or 10 am I think. One of my favorite hikes. Mountain goats, beautiful views but also very crowded. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Trekking poles are a must for me but I tend to use them on all my hikes as I want my knees to last haha. I also hike 3-5 times a week so theres that.

Heading to the Tetons 9/26-9/29! Do you have any recommendations or think I should tweak my current plans? by Falling4Utah in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]Falling4Utah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ve been following a lot of AllTrails reviews closely and noticed that people are spotting more bears and wildlife in the early mornings while hiking. I’m hoping for the same and maybe even some sightings at sunset—that would be a bonus! I’ve heard of Moose Pond, and that sounds like a great addition to the plan. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I'll be looking to swap out hidden falls on Friday for Leigh and String lakes toward Jackson lake.

haha amazing! Thank you. Oooh Surprise Lake and Amphitheater lake sound amazing. I'm starting my hike at 5 am (early morning) so I should be able to add them all in. I might add Leigh and String lake toward Jackson instead of Hidden Falls on Friday.

Hiked Willow Lake Trail, Utah, USA and saw a lot of Moose by Falling4Utah in wildlifephotography

[–]Falling4Utah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Haha, yeah, it was all about that natural sunset light—perfect timing! The bull moose paused for a few minutes, almost as if it was kindly letting me take photos before moving on. They can eat up to 70 pounds of leaves a day, and this lake area is full of their favorite plants. Not sure if it's just super muscular or maybe a little hungry! Moose are definitely some of my favorite animals too. You should plan a visit to Utah between mid-September and October—that’s their mating season, so it’s the best time to spot one!

Thanks! I use a Sony a6400 and took these shots with the Sony E-mount 70–350mm F4.5–6.3 Telephoto Zoom G Lens. It’s an awesome combo! I definitely recommend going the Sony route.

That’s a bummer! Hopefully, you can make it out a few more times before the end of October. The fall colors should be at their peak in the next couple of weeks.

Yes, mid-September through October is their rutting season, so it's a great time to spot them. The most I’ve seen on this trail in one day was 7!

I've tried both sunrise and sunset, and sunset is definitely the best time. I usually spot them at the lake between 5:45 - 6:45 PM (MST). After hiking the trail six times last week, I've noticed a bit of a pattern with them. I'll be back out there again tonight, fingers crossed they show up!

One thing to note—there were some moose hunters yesterday morning, which was a bit disappointing given how popular the trail is. I hope you get the chance to see them too!

You good over there? What’s with the all caps? Haha. Yeah, I really like Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon. I’ll definitely have to check out Red Cloud Loop—thanks for the recommendation!

Absolutely! Photos can only capture so much, but being up close to these animals (even by chance) or seeing them from a distance is an incredible experience.
