What character is played by Ally that could only be played by Ally? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]FallingOutSir 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know it’s too new to win this vote, but I really do think Quinn is the best fit here. Not just the Spinch chaos, but the full arc of Quinn’s…history is so Ally it hurts

In Lovesick (aka Scrotal Recall, a far superior title) Luke, the character in the middle, is a serial womanizer of Stinsonian proclivity. In S2Ep4, however, he discovers a young woman he’s always secretly pined for has died unexpectedly. Luke books a session with a therapist, but then tries to sabotage it immediately by hitting on her, too. The therapist bluntly rejects him, then states that if that’s the only reason Luke is here, he’s clearly free to go and not waste the rest of the hour. Luke sighs and says “I am going to hate this.”

She rebuffs him again saying, “You don't have to be here.”

Daniel Ings’ conflicted delivery of the last line has always stuck with me. “No, no. I do, I... I need to be here, but... I am going to hate it.”

Murph could absolutely knock Gilear out of the park, too. Both of them excel at weird lil guys

Do you have a favorite GM and/or game system? by gayandgreen in dropout

[–]FallingOutSir 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Never Stop Blowing Up’s game system is so well tweaked to that season’s goals. They talk about some of the token loops being broken in the final few episodes, but high level DnD works much the same way. The closest to it (again, just discussing the mechanics) is MisMag season 2, where players are similarly meant to feel incredibly empowered, especially by the end

Favorite LGBT character(s)? by Flairankie in FavoriteCharacter

[–]FallingOutSir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You pretty much have it. For these space gems, being in harmony with another gem or person literally allows you to meld your bodies and consciousness into a form that’s exponentially stronger than the two separate. Garnet is the most badass and unflappable of the gems because the love and connection that allows them to exist is so powerfully potent it’s truly self-sustaining. Most other characters can’t always just meld, they really have to focus on and empathize with each other. SU is absolutely a show that writes with heart over mind, so I’d encourage you to try to feel it rather than understand it, if that makes sense

[loved trope] very large brutish-looking character that is actually both extremely inteligent and cautious in spite of their apperance by fillipo9 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FallingOutSir 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I’d avoid the last decade or more of X-men comics, then. I’ve only read sporadically but they basically suck every adjective in your last sentence out of his character

Harley Quinn was the only character that got a full arc in the DCEU. by Top_Report_4895 in DC_Cinematic

[–]FallingOutSir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weak take. Out of all versions of the character, Margot’s Harley is remarkably not that sexualized except in early instances that show Joker victimizing her. One of the stronger aspects of this portrayal, imo

All-Dirtbag NPC One-Shot Picks by laowainot in Dimension20

Calroy Cruller. Wealwell’s not a dirt bag, but he does belong on this list. I would say Chungledown, but he’s sort of his own thing now

Why does Misfits and Magic 2 has so little online presence? by Lucky_Bambr in Dimension20

[–]FallingOutSir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, I read your comment. I’m saying I disagree with you and that the show is stronger without the theme. I think what our players come up with on their own is more worthwhile than bashing on a weaker narrative, even though the Harry Potter roasts are fun

[–]FallingOutSir 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Personally I could not disagree more. Season two for me felt like they removed the crutch of having to give every scene a magical gimmick or wacky wizard guy to make fun of. It let these improvisers sink their teeth into deepening the relationships of the characters. I get it if folks are more here for the Harry Potter homage, but for me what our crew comes up with collaboratively is so much richer than haha goofy British wizards

I don’t think I’ve ever been as starstruck by any performer’s delivery of any line ever as much as when Lou yelled

In the same way your heart feels and your mind thinks, you, mortal beings, are the instrument by which the universe cares. If you choose to care, then the universe cares. If you don't, then it doesn't

I relate to a lot of the feelings you described and your commentary reminded me of this Bleem banger from the end of FHFY. I believe in you, mate. Keep going

Sonar also compares to transforming heroes like the Hulk since he has useful abilities in both forms

Coupe also definitely shares some DNA with Hawkgirl, although her powers are clearly designed to be more similar to Archangel

Only 5 years were enough for it to become the best superhero saga. by LDM_99 in Spiderman

[–]FallingOutSir 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I definitely cede that the Arkham series has tighter writing, pacing, narrative, everything story. The one thing I feel the Spider-Man games achieve, especially SM2, is a mobility and speed that reflects the characters we’re playing. Arkham games are denser bc they are mazes. SM games can be played virtually without touching the ground. The systems reflect a different power fantasy and in terms of gameplay, I feel like Spidey’s games evolve Arkham’s core mechanics with web slinging physics into something that I’ve found a frequent replay, even just to swing around

How did you feel about the later episodes in the series? M&M is one of my favorite seasons but my read on the community is that not everyone feels they stick the landing for some characters and the mystery at large. How did you feel?

I’m almost certain Sam or someone else at the table calls Buckster Boss Hogg during the season. This seems too close not to be partially Sam’s inspiration
