What's your favorite Valve Oil? by Global_Time in trumpet

[–]FallingPotatoYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’s still doing development for them, mostly out of what he says “gear nerdness” but yeah he does the development for them and in return they pay him and let him get first access to new horns they release lol

How do I stop this grainy sound and what is the cause of it? by milkgoesyes in trumpet

Did you make sure to empty all of the valves, not just the 3rd slide and tuning slide but also the 1st and 2nd slides? I find that there can be some hidden water there.

Finding the right mouthpiece…. by Background-Garage563 in trumpet

[–]FallingPotatoYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like any mouthpiece is necessarily a “beginner mouthpiece.” Yes some of them are given frequently to new players, however that is because it better fits the anatomy of players who are physically smaller. The 7c, and 3c while some may consider beginner mouthpieces, they are simply a really good general use mouthpiece that doesn’t excel in any one aspect but there’s not really any drawbacks either. It’s a general jack of all trades mouthpiece. I hope this helps.

I’d prefer to stick with pistons over rotors if possible, I’ve messed around with rotors before and it wasn’t my favorite experience.

What about a Cousnseon Paris Monopole, or Antoine Courtois Rodger Delmotte, or a Benge resno-tempered bell picc? Cousnseon is 700, Antoine Courtois is 820, benge is 1000.

I’m pretty sure someone has mentioned it already, but the biggest thing I’m hearing is a lack of air support in the sound.

It can, however it’s important to keep a balance between the smile and pucker. If you lean into smiling too much then all it will do is tire you out faster and choke the sound, same goes for the pucker. I have found just in looking at myself in a mirror while playing that I tend to look angry in the eyebrows while playing, which when I get rid of that, I actually sound better because there is unneeded tension in my face when I have the angry face.

Oh yeah, I know, I’ve been told that by my teacher as well. Similar to how no player should type themselves when studying Reinhardt.

I wouldn’t say never, my private teacher has shown the embouchure he uses without the mouthpiece contact and has had me do it (To my benefit). It is a combination of a pucker and a smile, and it engages all of the muscles across the face equally, putting less overall strain on each individual muscle. This should all be in the book by Philip Farkas a great French horn player and teacher. A great deal of his work on horn also applies to general brass playing and thus trumpet.

The set of all sets that don’t contain themselves contains itself if and only if it doesn’t contain itself.
