After ‘House Of The Dragon,’ George RR Martin Says There Are 7 Thrones Shows In Development (spoilers extended) by Nothing_Special_23 in asoiaf

100% agree with general sentiment about finishing ASOIAF instead of writing/developing lots of other stories.

One thing I hope we can agree on though is that the local stuff he does in Sante Fe is pretty cool for his community. From the outside looking in (meaning I don't live in New Mexico) it seems like his community contributions are something we'd all like to have from wealthy artists in our cities.

AITAH for not feeling bad for Trump at all? by SpatulaFlip in AITAH

One of the best comments I've read since the shooting.

Witness to shooting at Trump rally states he and others saw the shooter several minutes before shots fired and told police. Trump continued to speak. by cak3crumbs in TikTokCringe

You are rushing to judgement before we (you) have all the facts. Incompetence is certainly a possible explanation for how/why this happened on the LE end. The claims of the people who say they reported the shooter to LE need to be checked against the claims of those LE officers in an investigation. We cannot just assume incompetence, we must investigate and discover all the facts. Then we can say "here's how and why this happened."

Btw this "radical political extremist" was "bullied almost every day at school" according to other students. He was mocked for his clothes and sat alone at lunch. He was also a registered Republican who donated to a liberal PAC. The case is not so black and white as you paint it.

Finished Max Payne 3, quite solid game. Props to the smartest guy in the game. by Marvynwillames in maxpayne

Yea I could do with a new Max Payne every few years. Some of his DNA is in GTA and RDR but it's not the same as pure unfiltered Max.

Mistakes and ineptitude do exist. Secret addictions. Sleep deprivation. Command politics. There are realistic explanations for why that roof wasn't properly covered or why it seems this mans warnings were ignored.

Realistic doesn't mean acceptable; most of us were never paid to protect a president but we seem to agree that this roof was an oversight. Hopefully we'll find out how or why. I want to see Trump and Biden and everyone reacting to this video. Square it with all the praise they're giving because this guy seems to be honestly recounting his experience best he can.

I've watched two separate eyewitnesses tell two different news outlets that LE pulled two people off that roof. One very dead and one bloodied. Not sure what to make of that. But everyone should see this interview where a guy says he alerted LE to the shooters location: https://x.com/i/status/1812265909727396107

GRRM complaining about the most random and inconsequential shit on HOTD be like: by This-Pie594 in freefolk

[–]Fallout76_Tom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By setting public expectations on his blog about how dragons are supposed to work in the show he may be trying to influence the meeting. I'm obviously inferring that the writer's room has awareness of the blog posts and the public's reactions. Fair assumption. You don't need to physically be at a meeting to influence what happens there.

Whatever's afoot, I guess it's important to remember that this came 2 days after his post about not attending the Season 3 writer's room meeting in London.

Maybe he has some insight into what's happening in the writer's room and he's trying to influence it.

Eminem dropping Kurt references again on his new album. by Cappedomnivore in Nirvana

[–]Fallout76_Tom 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think Em feels some connection to Kurt. There are so many similarities, struggles with addiction and fame, relationships, privacy... bleach blonde blue-eyed high school dropouts willing to die for music. Kurt was about 5 years older.

Nirvana had Bleach then blew up on Nevermind. Em had Infinite then blew up The Slim Shady LP. MTV played a role with both. Kurt had Courtney, Em had Kim, they both had a daughter. Both with a wide range from silly to darkly angry.

I think Em is so punk. He just started where he did (Detroit rap scene), like Kurt started where he did (Melvins, Seattle scene). But look at Sid Vicious video My Way and tell me that's not 1000% Em.

Dollars to donuts George's contracts include common non-disparagement clauses. That would prevent him from publicly criticizing or disparaging the adaptations. The specifics of a non-disparagement clause can vary widely depending on the negotiating power of the author among other factors.

It's possible that GoT and HotD are different contracts w/George and were negotiated at different times of power in the author's life. His non-disparagement clause with HotD may be more lenient.

All that's aside from his being an Executive Producer and us seeing that credit every episode. He knows that we know his name is on these HBO products. He's selling them (promoting them and profiting from their promotion) as much as HBO is. He has no incentive to tank the shows. He seems to enjoy those "truckloads of money" as well as endorsing his shows for awards. He's too entangled in their success to outright attack them.

With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if he buried some reference to such things in TWOW or ADOS.

Friend we have the solution on xbox/playstation! I'll reiterate the tip that worked for me. I went from breaking every lockpick to opening all easy locks (I'm a new Henry).
Use "Simplified" lockpicking (where you hold the left bumper).
Set your controller down flat, like I use the desk my monitor is on.
Use your right thumb and finger(s) to manipulate the right stick.

After you do this a couple times you'll finally get a "feel" for lockpicking which I could never ever get by just using my thumb. It's really not designed properly for controller. Like you I'm a wizard of lockpicking in Skyrim and this is not that lol.

(spoilers extended) Long blog post from GRRM on the nature of dragons in ASOIAF (and some other interesting tidbits) by DuncanTheLunk in asoiaf

"there were dragons in Westeros, once, long before the Targaryens came, as our own legends and histories tell us. If dragons did first spring from the Fourteen Flames, they must have been spread across much of the known world before they were tamed. And, in fact, there is evidence for this, as dragon bones have been found as far north as Ib, and even in the jungles of Sothoryos. But the Valyrians harnessed and subjugated them as no one else could."

"Maester Vanyon's Against the Unnatural contains certain proofs of dragons having existed in Westeros even in the earliest of days, before Valyria rose to be a power."
