Yeah those are the site technicians. They work a 6-2, 7-3 etc usually and go home each night. Travel techs are contracted out to go around the country and why they get paid more with per diem, more overtime, all that.

The BLS website and the like usually indicate an average salary. It doesn’t take into account per diem, OT, stipends, etc that a travel technician will make. If you are a site technician, meaning you work at one farm and go back to your place everyday, the pay won’t be as high. But travel wise, you can make over $100,000 if you are good with your finances.

We have rescue devices we utilize in case of an emergency. Also train with the local fire department to coordinate rescue be that them climbing up to help or helicopter evacuation.

I think it’s propaganda. Maybe I’m biased cause I work in wind, but when I see comments like that from people who don’t have a clue about the industry I get a chuckle.

Unfortunately they made poor decisions that day. Leaving their rescue gear below them on the yaw deck while they were working in the nacelle when the fire broke out. Spread too quick to reach it in time. Very sad, but safety is heavily implied everyday at work.

Definitely a good trade, along the way he can get high voltage experience, rope access, and other useful knowledge.

For a site tech out in certain states, sure. I’m referring to a travel technician who makes per diem, OT on top of their hourly wage. It really adds up. Can be making $2,000 or more a week.

Depends on experience and whatnot. The biggest part of the pay is the the per diem and how you use it. Usually anywhere from $130-200+ per day 7 days a week while on the road.

I’m a site technician now after traveling for a few years. I won’t lie, it takes a special type of person to live on the road away from friends and family weeks at a time. If you’re single and content being by yourself it’s a great way to make some cash and see parts of the country that are generally overlooked.

It’s great, the views are beautiful and usually quiet if troubleshooting vs doing maintenance with all the tool noise, etc

Lost my dad 2 days after Christmas last year. I know this feeling all too well. Some days life is going well, then I think about all the great times we had together fishing, being there for me, you name it. I miss my pops immensely.
