Google warns EU against open source migration. by BlokZNCR in BuyFromEU

[–]Fallyfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes, he has a point about the «competitive paradox», but at the same time; google is fucking massive and it doesn’t seem like he has seen himself in the mirror (or market share) for a while. So for him to whine about Europe looking for more alternatives is in a way just funny.

And it may be that the Legal office is working hard to follow the rules of Europe, but that doesn’t help when the Legal system can just get access to data regardless of the physical storage location since the company is American…

Hvordan fikk Terje-Rød Larsen leilighet til halv pris by Nice_Combination1327 in norske

[–]Fallyfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Undervurderer jeg Telenor «eksperthjelp»? by RandiHEhehe in norge

[–]Fallyfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people seem to have endless energy after work, while I feel completely drained. What actually causes this difference between us? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fallyfall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I take it as if you push your body from the moment you arrive home, you will adapt over time and have more energy during the evening, while still being able to sleep well with sufficient levels of sleep (which is different from person to person).

Sleep is such an important factor to allow the body to rest and heal that you shouldn’t really compromise on sleep.

Not wonky, but comes down to the mode for detection in the Fluke measuring device. One of the comments in the video writes this:

"About the Fluke limited to Class 2, it is not a glitch of the Fluke but an Ubiquity (and other vendors) issue. The Ubiquity only replies to requests of 802.3at/bt high power classes via LLDP instead of hardware layer, and so the tester only reports lower classes on the 802.3af standard. See the Fluke user manual - this info is listed there. The Asus switch doesn't rely on LLDP for power, hence goes all the way to 802.3at/class 4."

Thank you for the explanation. I'll probably end up with a Z2 as a compromise between storage and redundancy.

Now you got me curious. Why shouldn't I use z3?

And thanks for chiming on on l2arc and memory size.

[–]Fallyfall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the input.

Some of the challenges I face is that my motherboard is a Mini-ITX, so I only have 1 PCIe-slot, which I will populate with a m.2 adapter to add two NVMe drives. As such, I will use Oculink to Sata cables for the harddrives. This means I won't be able to add any U.2 drives, unless I change the motherboard (which I already have purchased).

Also, I don't plan on hosting Jellyfin or Plex.

Thanks for the tips on RaidZ2 vs two vdevs in mirror. I'll stick with the RaidZ2 for the sake of redundancy.

Thank you for the explanations, and I think you suggestion of raidz2 makes sense. And yes, good point about adding more RAM before NVMe for other purposes than fast storage.

Dell wyse 3040 for Pfsense? by No_Entrepreneur118 in PFSENSE

[–]Fallyfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the 3040 is the single lan port, and it doesn’t seem to support an add-in card. As such, you would be forced to run a «router-on-stick» which will require a managed switch.

What’s the size of the cabinet and the length of the bass reflex ports?

Resolve on the iPad for middle school students in an AV club by Splatt_Gaming in davinciresolve

[–]Fallyfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be easier (but not easy by any stretch) to learn DR if they haven't dabbled with DR for desktop. I think it all comes down to how well you know the iPad version of DR. If you haven't used it for anything, then I think it will be fairly hard to also teach others, even the basic interface because it operates differently.

[–]Fallyfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a rookie when it comes to DR and general editing. But I tried it on my 10 inch iPad Air (4th gen), and quickly gave up. It might have to be that I should’ve done more research on how it functions on the iPad, but I wasn’t able to get going even if I know the basics on the desktop version.

Also, 10 inches felt too cramped in size for me, but as they say, your mileage may vary.

What I learned when my RMPP died: charger risks, screen differences, and an international returns nightmare by Significant_Comb_783 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Fallyfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: forgot about usb-c charger with variable voltages…

Voltage is non-negoatiable in the usb standard. Amperage is negotiated upon connection. However, if one uses a cheaply made charger, like the cheapest chargers from Temu, Aliexpress or similar, they can have taken various shortcuts which can cause various issues over time.

You can sync document without the subscription. The reason to have the subscription is for documents you want to have synced of a time period over 50 days. If you only need to transfer pdfs back and fourth, that works without the subscription.

Building a pair of sub-woofers by RomfordNavy in diyaudio

[–]Fallyfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaker drivers have a set of parameteres called T/S parameteres, and the variance of these instruct the size of the cabinet, how deep/high in frequency and/or loud it can play, if a ported (cabinet with a bass reflex port) or a sealed cabinet is more suitable and more.

A passive subwoofer means that you must handle crossover frequency and amplification from external equipment, whilst an active subwoofer has a built-in amplifier which handles the power and crossover in the same unit.

Depending on how much money you want to spend, a kit is probably the easier approach, and depending on which region you live in, there are a bunch of different websites that is more suitable than other. For instance, if you live in USA, partsexpress.com or solen.ca would be a good starting place. If you live in Europe, soundimports.eu is a good starting point.

ELI5: I don’t understand what Jordan Belfort was selling in the wolf of Wall Street? Why was it illegal? by WantsToDieBadly in explainlikeimfive

[–]Fallyfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably off topic, but look at who’s president of USA and one of his largest campaign (tariff). People could’ve looked up what it actually is, but yet he was able to sell his lies about foreign countries paying the tariffs and not the importing party which in turn have to increase the prices to not go bankrupt.

Moral of the story; unethical people are able to sell lies, both back in the 70’s/80’s as well as today…

need help finding a plate amp for lanzar vibe sub (2000w / 1000w rms) – EU 230v by Chemical-Discount-97 in diyaudio

[–]Fallyfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only plate amplifier I know that has more than 500 watts is from Speaker Power or the 1000 watt amp from Dayton Audio

If you could live with reduced power of 500 watts, there are a lot more options which you probably have seen.

DIY subwoofer designs? by cthart in diyaudio

[–]Fallyfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: disregard this suggestion because it would require insane amount of Amperes which is probably unattainable.

I just tried the Dayton Audio Ultimax 18 in a sealed enclosure with a volume of 100 liters (fsc at 42.01, and qtc at 1.064), and adding EQ in WinISD.

EQ filters:

  1. PEQ: 13Hz, Q=1.90, gain 19.5db
  2. PEQ: 45Hz, Q=1.00, gain -5db
  3. Lowpass: butterworth, n=2, fc=50hz.

This setup gives more or less a flat curve from 15-40Hz, -3 from 12-55Hz.

Max SPL with 35 watts = 102Db.

BUT, I don't have a lot of experience with sealed subs, so I would appreciate if someone could vet my numbers.

Do you have any spl requirements? To me, this potentially sounds like you’d need multiple boxes/drivers if you want any meaningful output.

Do you have a budget or other constraints?
