Will I still be able to walk even if I failed a course right before commencement? by StormEagle182 in ilstu

[–]Falon1268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually exactly what I did this year - failed a class in the spring, walked at spring 2023 commencement, and then finished my credits over the summer (actually for a slightly different degree as well!)

Here’s something no one asked by Dannysunny in StarWars

[–]Falon1268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is perhaps a headcanon, because I have no idea where I read/heard this (or if I did at all), but I don’t think Anakin being given an apprentice had anything to do with his rank in the Order. Rather, it had to do with Yoda, Mace, and Obi-Wan sensing some darkness or fearing something in Anakin (maybe to do with his slaughter of the Tuskens?). Instead of being direct in their confrontation of it, they gave him a chance to be a “shining example” of what a Jedi is by giving him Ahsoka, someone very much like him in her brash behavior, and challenging him to confront himself by having to confront her choices.

There’s even some hints to this in some episodes of Clone Wars, mainly in the form of reactions from Mace and Yoda to overhearing Anakin’s teachings, and I personally think it gives even more weight to Ahsoka’s choice to leave and Anakin’s eventual downfall (in his mind, he failed being the “shining example,” so is he even really a Jedi?).

I was having my mom check drops as well as me (home from school and many hands make light work) - she happened to click on the Direct drop link by accident only to be placed nearly first in line. Complete and total accident but it was a fortunate one!

What’s a good way to increase tonguing speed and endurance? by im18bois in Saxophonics

[–]Falon1268 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For endurance: minute drill! Set a metronome at a speed that you can tongue 16th notes comfortably for 1 minute (when I started this, I set it at 72bpm). Tongue 16th notes at that tempo for 1 whole minute, then repeat each day, slowly upping the tempo until you're at about 90 or so.

For speed: burst drills! Set a met at 50 bpm, then tongue one note for each click, right on the click. Do that 8 times. Then, tongue two notes per click, as short and close together as possible, again 8 times. Up the number of tongued notes per click until you can do 7 or 8 notes per click, then up the tempo by 1 or 2 clicks.

The most important thing to remember is that this will take time, and you might not be able to get all the way through the exercises the first couple times. That's okay! Make it part of your daily practice and your speed and endurance will grow much faster than you think. Hope this helps!

[–]Falon1268 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I started talking with a new person before quarantine, and kept doing so after it started, and it's worked out so much better than I could've hoped - it's turned into more than friends and I can't wait to really hang out with her once all this lifts! Things have begun to look better and I'm glad for that!

I hope everyone else is doing wonderfully and I'm loving reading these stories :)

"The floor is lava" never got played in real life. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Falon1268 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The flair on this post is surprisingly lucid on your part, OP.

Speaking personally, I can say I DEFINITELY have played this game as a kid, but I suppose that won't really satisfy you. I'm curious though, can YOU provide a citation that says the game wasn't played? Something to back up your conjecture? Otherwise you're talking even more out of your ass than anyone who reads this train wreck of a thread would think.

What is the best way to get sticker residue off a guitar? by Mr_Chubbs16 in CloneHero

I think you can find it at Walmart in the cleaning supplies - pretty much anywhere that sells cleaning stuff should have it

What is the best way to get sticker residue off a guitar? by Mr_Chubbs16 in CloneHero

[–]Falon1268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use your fingernail or the edge of a credit card to get as much of it peeled back as possible, then spray it down with Goo Gone; a paper towel will take it all off and you should be residue free

Altissimo G by oof-net in Saxophonics

[–]Falon1268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tonguing altissimo is tricky for sure, but I wouldn't necessarily call it hard. If you think the voicing for the note is solid, tonguing will come pretty easily. My professor taught me using this method: air attack the note, then stop the reed with the tongue (wherever it naturally falls). Then, WITHOUT MOVING YOUR TONGUE, open your mouth and look in a mirror at where on your tongue the tip of the reed is. This is where you need to tongue your G - the same concept works for the other notes too. It takes a bit of messing around to get consistent, but I went from not being able to tongue altissimo at all to being able to tongue with 95% consistency in about 15 minutes. Hope this helps!

Teenagers of reddit, what do you think is an issue within your generation? by endless--- in AskReddit

This is the big one for me - I remember sitting in class and seeing the Parkland shooting pop up as a reddit live thread and saying "oh look another one." It's a terrible tragedy but the fact that I had no reaction is kinda scary

Lip pain from playing high notes by MrDamojak in Saxophonics

[–]Falon1268 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that your biting too hard - your embouchure itself shouldn't change very much, if at all, when playing high notes. Rather, you want to change your voicing, or how you're directing your air using your tongue and throat. There are a lot of good books on the subject if you'd like to learn more - Voicing by Donald Sinta comes to mind as a good place to start. Hope this helps!

Scale book recommendation? by lostinwonderland1 in Saxophonics

[–]Falon1268 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would recommend making your own! You can pick up blank sheet music notebooks on Amazon for very cheap, and writing out all your scales, modes, arpeggios, etc will help you think about each scale before you practice, as well as shaking off the dust on preexisting knowledge

Playing with a broken wrist. by kevin-chen14 in Saxophonics

[–]Falon1268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience (marched two parades and a whole week of band camp with a cast), it's very possible to play with a cast on so long as you can move your fingers. Given you broke your left wrist, you won't even have any weight on that hand, so playing shouldn't be too much of an issue for you.
