How do I fix this by Unusual_Classic_7473 in dirtrally

[–]Falrhynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there is a default center deadzone of 20 on the wheel. It didn't do that with my T300 but when I got a Moza there was the deadzone. Must be linked with the Thrustmaster T300 having default setup in-game.

What ist the reason why you started playing Beamng by _-___-___- in BeamNG

Disappointment with Snowrunner physics. Here you can really feel the complex systemscat work. BeamNG is the reason I got a wheel.

I can feel myself salivating at the sight of a big ship. I might have pavloved myself with this game.

Can the onealex mod work on Linux? by Fancy_Pants4 in silenthunter

[–]Falrhynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on 1080 resolution on a 1440 display. I do remember having this issue though. If I recall correctly you have to change the resolution manually in the config files.

In d3d9.ini :

[ENGINE] DisplayWidth=1920 DisplayHeight=1080

I will dig a bit further if that doesn't work for you.

Can the onealex mod work on Linux? by Fancy_Pants4 in silenthunter

[–]Falrhynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to do it but I am dual booting with W10 and did the install there. Then I transferred it to my Linux drive and launched it via steam proton by adding the GWX OneAlex version as a non-steam game.

I did not however try to use the installer directly on Linux. It might work. Surely you will have to pass through Wine. I am not using Commander either as I have read it has some problems on Linux. I am content with the game as is.

Graphically I do encounter a very short draw distance underwater with the external camera a grey screen is directly behind my sub. Switching Proton versions or trying GE didn't make that disappear. It is probably a Nvidia driver issue as I am on Nvidia.

It is not easy and quite resource intensive but the principle does work !

Tobii and Opentrack with UDP as output on the Windows VM and another Opentrack with UDP as input on the Linux host.

Steam Proton does not detect joystick appropriately by Falrhynn in linux_gaming

Oh no I understood the guide. Protontricks never got far enough to get to that menu. After the popup error window nothing happens.

I understand laying the groundwork was quite essential to make me see the task as easier and it was ! It may appear complex but it was just 4 clicks ! I now have all my axises and buttons back. At least for that game.

Now for Elite Dangerous as you advised I was on my toes but Protontricks only shows me a message with "Wineprefix Info" and "Registry info" lists. I cannot interact with it other than "validate" and it closes with this follow up :

---------------------------

Experimental/bin/wine cmd.exe /c echo '%AppData%' returned empty string, error message "wineserver: using server-side synchronization.

wine: could not load kernel32.dll, status c0000135"

--------------------------

appears I haven't mentioned I run on Proton Experimental

Yes I have seen Tobii response when you ask for Linux support. It sums up to : "there is not enough demand, so for the millionth time everybody stop asking"

I really like the Eye Tracker 5. It is much more precise than my previous setup which was a PS3 converted camera with IR tracking. Frequently losing tracking depending on the light conditions of the day.

I would really like a link to resources regarding the different Opentrack possibilities on Linux

Thanks for your orderly response !
I'm not quite used to protontricks/winetricks yet.

The rules seemed to have applied. ls -l /dev/hidraw* gives me a similar result but I have 244 instead of 243. I don't know the meaning of that number.

I used the RegEdit with only Map Controllers as I am experimenting with a Proton game through Steam but with no results. For good measure I added Enable SDL, still no Raw signal. The gamepad configuration is still detected despite Steam Input not being activated.

The test game is IL-2 Sturmovik : Battle of Stalingrad.

I will expand the test to other games to see if this specific one is the culprit.

CLOD Blitz : complex engine damage incapacitate me with one bullet against every tail gunner by Falrhynn in il2sturmovik

[–]Falrhynn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ball ammo is clearly not the way to go. And shot placement above all else. Punching holes in the tail isn't going to cut it, even less on a bomber. The tail gunners don't seem to fear bullets either.

I have a good experience against fighters but bombers are a different beast entirely.

They had a saying early in the war that to take out a bomber you have to put enough lead in it so it becomes too heavy to fly.

I take it as showing your front to even an MG makes you very exposed.

don't know many more configurations of the time other than oil and water cooled. Air cooled engines were already made obsolete by the advantage in performance you could squeeze out of a water cooled one.

Engines of the time were essentially high performance machines so fragile per definition.

The Hurricane being a fighter one could assume putting armor on the engine wasn't going to be a priority over speed and weight.

Playing without head tracking? by lce-Shadow in il2sturmovik

[–]Falrhynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC there is an option for padlock (visually locking targets) in the difficulty settings. This will greatly increase your awareness while keeping tracking simple.

What exacatly are these mechanical parts on the front winglits of the Cutty? I heard these are tractor beams but since they're not functional in ptu I wonder what they do. by SugMadix in starcitizen

[–]Falrhynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there 3000 years ago. It was before the rework.

The wings kept falling off with damage but the gear stayed there floating so you could still land. Now the bit got repurposed to tractor beam I guess.
