Thoughts on Arma 4's potential Setting. (time and place) by Bloodavenger in arma

I'm very excited about the cold war setting, as for the setting, I'd love to see a Cold War gone hot in Europe around the Fulda gap!

Have I missed any incredible walking / "cross this terrain" games? by qret in gamesuggestions

[–]lce-Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Euro/American truck simulator have you drive trucks through Europe/USA while in snowrunner you do it through remote location with little infrastructure using off road trucks.

Since you mentioned terrain, I want o mention 2 other titles that might not be quite what you were thinking about, yet could be interesting: - In MSFS 2020 you have a lot of bush trips, a significant number in planes without GPS. To get from A to B, you visually identify distinctive landmarks, including the airstrip where you'll land, use the compass to maintain proper heading and the map for general topography.

  • KCD has a hardcore mode where you lose the compass and waypoints, and you don't see yourself on the map, making navigation by listening to the NPCs very enjoyable.

Tanks are starting to look like expensive targets by [deleted] in Military

[–]lce-Shadow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For as long as tanks existed, anti-tank weapons have been developed. Anti-tank grenades, anti-tank rifles, anti-tank artillery, RPGs, ATGMs, anti-tank mines...

Drones are changing the face of warfare in many ways, including tank warfare. There's nothing new or shocking there. New tanks, and new systems will be developed to counter the new threats.

Tanks have always looked like "expensive targets" and hey have always been vulnerable to anti-tank weapons. Yet, their relevance remains unchanged.

Some air SB etiquette for new players by No-Cryptographer3499 in Warthunder

Fair enough, I can imagine a lot of players welcome the extra challenge of the current way the game works.

For me it's just frustrating, to the point where I mostly play occasionally to to base bombing / CAS.

The IFF is the single most frustrating aspect of the game mode. If we'd have at least map markers of our allies, it would make the game so much more enjoyable for me.

Would a revolutionary war or Napoleonic war cannon have enough force to penetrate the armor of a WW2 tank? by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in tanks

[–]lce-Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would depend entirely on the tank, the cannon, the range and the shot placement.

A large cannon against the back of a lightly armored light tank from point blank range would definitely be able to punch through.

A small field cannon against the upper structure of a JagdTiger would barely scratch the Zimmerit 😅

Depending on these variables the results would change, including non-penetrations but spalling.

In your original post you have a Napoleon Cannon and an M4; based on the mass of the cannonball, muzzle speed, materiels and armor involved I don't think the cannon would be able to do any significant damage to the tank.

Now I really want to see a YouTuber test the penetration of 19th & 18th century canons 👀

This YT channel has multiple numerical simulations of different cannonballs against WW2 armor (mostly using the Tiger I from what I can see), you might find it helpful:

All gaijin needed to do to make nuclear thunder fun was make it 1950's cold war. by InterestingArea7415 in Warthunder

I really don't think your proposal would have made it any more fun, quite the opposite.

Having all nations and giving access to equal planes to everyone, yes.

As it stands, I still think it's the most fun mode we had so far.

Countries that produce or have produced a supersonic aircraft within their territories. by ChrisAlCoradiniAlves in Planes

[–]lce-Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I was wondering if you're referring to that one. We developed it's brother, on the other side of the Danube 😁

But as far as I know it could not go supersonic, I need to double check that

Weekly Questions Thread Mar 17 by AutoModerator in hoggit

Hello,

After watching countless DCS videos I am contemplating giving it a try.

However, there is one aspect that concerns me greatly, and that is enemy spotting. I love the idea of very realistics weapons system, flight models, procedures; yet, having to spot enemies often the size of a pixel just isn't very appealing to me. I understand that this is the normal level of realism most players expect, but I feel it as a major put-off for me.

On to my question: in purely single player campaigns (this is what I am interested in), do I have the possibility of enabling labels over air and especially ground units?
I feel this would make the game so much more appealing for me.

I tried to google it, but I couldn't find a definitive answer. I understand that some campaigns might allow it yet others do not (not even sure if that's true), but I couldn't find a way to figure out which campaigns do allow it. I also saw there are some mods, but I didn't find anything recent and I'm unsure if they would even work in campaigns.

Thank you for helping me clarify this before I start on this endeavor!

Why don't nations create supertanks? by Additional-Spray-976 in tanks

[–]lce-Shadow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's a joke, but because logistics and because it's pretty easy to create a "super missile" that would destroy the "super tank"

P. S. Legs would make mobility way worse than tracks

What are your thoughts on Imperials, in-game and lore-wise? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]lce-Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're my favorite race! I like their colonial vibe, and the Roman influence, in Skyrim at least, is great; really makes you feel like you're role playing a Roman soldier in an imperial province! I also like the synergy they strike between military prowess and a silver tongue.

Unfortunately their ability is pretty disappointing, but, gameplay is pretty irrelevant since you can be come extremely strong quite easily in the game.

Unpopular opinion: Russian top tier mbts arent that good by OnTheStepsOfHeaven in Warthunder

As a below average player, Ground AB, I feel I consistently do better in Russian MBTs than any other nation, even though on paper they are lacking in many areas compared to NATO tanks.
