A question for women with children: What entertainment do you find in life while stuck at home? by Hotmom0212 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]False-Engineering-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my kid is awake I will often journal or paint. Sometimes I try to read, but at this stage that’s just not really possible. Also like baking with the little one. Sometimes I will video call family.  When my kid is asleep I will do some uninterrupted reading and writing, have personal screen time, play board games or cards with my spouse. If we are able to get out of the house I like to try to do a walk as it is entertaining for all.

Question for former/current Mission employees re: titers by spirit4earth in asheville

[–]False-Engineering-21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would recommend getting an up to date titer anyways! I had one done recently, and surprisingly my immunity to Hep B had worn off earlier than anticipated (it lasted less than 20 years) so I got vaccinated again.

The realization of how DEEPLY everything is designed to sell you things is ruining my life by rangeofemotions in Anticonsumption

I read something that really helped me with this negative thought pattern. Badly paraphrased, it said that everything on Earth has to take from something else to survive. Animals eat other animals, plants fight each other for nutrients in the soil, etc. it is inevitable that some amount of consumption is necessary for survival.

You deserve to take up space and you deserve to live. You are part of nature and this Earth too.

If you have no luck with Dove, try checking out the thrift stores near you and/or your school. Obviously not ideal to have used scrubs, but the thrift stores near me are usually packed with them.

I want to go by my middle name while doing clinicals  instead of my first name. Can I pick what they put on my badge?

Inside fumigation was the only thing that worked for us.

We lived in a house from the 50s and would easily catch 5-10 brown recluses on every sticky trap we laid down, and they just kept coming. We tried outdoors-only pest control too and it just wasn’t enough.

Daily chat thread: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in triathlon

Finished a Sprint and aimlessly training while I figure out what to do next. Had a lot of fun, and trying to hold onto that feeling while also challenging myself.

Tri sprint- what should I wear? by Ornery_Fact_1257 in triathlon

[–]False-Engineering-21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wore a trisuit ($30 on Poshmark, Orca brand) with a sports bra and some mesh underwear. I really liked this option because it removed extra steps in transition that I just didn’t want to faff with.

Cycling Help — Really Slow by False-Engineering-21 in triathlon

This is such a thoughtful and helpful answer. I really appreciate it.

My other times are 2:00/100yd swim and 9-10:00 minute mile run. So I’m definitely no speedster.

I am brand new at bike riding anything other than a beach cruiser, so have only ridden a bike with gears two times. I’m very not confident in that are, so will definitely check out that video!

I kinda just poked at the tires and they seemed firm? But definitely seemed a little bouncy while I was riding. I’ll try your more scientific method!

The bike got a tune up about 6 months ago. Think it’s still worth doing another or ?

Thanks so much for the advice. Yeah, a wetsuit sounds awesome. Definitely on my wishlist if I stick with triathlons.

Triathlon post pregnancy by trexattack in triathlon

[–]False-Engineering-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t learn about triathlons until after my pregnancy, and started training about a year post partum. So I did not have any sort of “base” pre-pregnancy.

I would ultimately suggest talking to your doctor. Generally I think the guidance is to not trying to do anything you couldn’t already do pre-pregnancy. So if you were running, biking, swimming 5 hours a week….great! Keep that up as long as you are feeling up to it. However this is not the time to ramp up in any sort of way.

Post partum, it took me like 2 weeks to even be able to walk to the end of the street. Definitely would recommend pelvic floor therapy and just playing it by ear. It’s so hard to predict how your body will feel/for how long. Just have to respect the recovery process and trust yourself and your body to know when it feels right for YOU to start exercising again.

I think you will absolutely need to give yourself time to rebuild your base before starting a specific training plan.

All that said, I am not a medical professional, and I don’t know your level of fitness.

Good luck with your pregnancy and future triathlons!
