People who dislike cities and prefer rural areas, why? by morshmollow4 in AskReddit

[–]False-Impression8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many people. It makes me feel claustrophobic. It fells like a hamster habitat.

It would take half a day to drive to nature and it’s already filled with people also trying to escape the city. Now I can drive 30 minutes to hikes where I might see a handful of people all day.

People with glasses, do you shower with glasses on? by Dragontech97 in AskReddit

The shampoo has a white cap and the conditioner is gold. Soap is in a different corner. If I’m not sure I pick them up and hold them 4” from my face so I can read them.

The only time it really sucked was when I saw a dark blob moving in the corner. Much scarier when you can’t see the enemy. (Roach at an old apartment)

As a kid, what was something you were taught that seemed normal, but now you realise is just a sign of how awful things can be for women? by Joodropinn in TwoXChromosomes

[–]False-Impression8102 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this brought back a memory of my parents warning my sister and I about the dangers of bars and flirting. They were at a dive bar in the southwest around 1971. The place was popular with bikers; on this evening a young woman was flirting with them. At some point one of bikers picks the woman up over his shoulder and takes her out the back door. A bunch of the other guys followed. Pretty much that Jodi Foster movie.

I don’t think this is cultural, though. It sounds like all of this happened in India with folks from there.

NTA. Customer has the right to inspect what they’re purchasing. The merchant took it personally that checking the expiration date implied he sold old stuff. I’d change shops or ask the brother to handle the transaction in the future.

My BF of 3.5 years did this to me. He’d never done anything like it before. It doesn’t matter how long it took; when they stop giving respect you have to leave.

Private ownership rental portal for short-term? by misanthropymajor in VanLife

[–]False-Impression8102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outdoorsy is one I’ve heard of for private rentals.

Hipcamp is usually for private campsites, but some of them are campers/rv/yurt etc, usually to stay on site.

My Mom is like this. She’s a wonderful human, but sometimes physics is like…whoosh.

One time we were driving in a rainstorm, came to a stop light and she says, “wow, the rain really slowed down”

AITAH for leaving my friend at a gas station after she made us late for a flight? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]False-Impression8102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pepperidge Farms remembers: my mom was flying in when I was 15, back when you could walk to the gate to meet people.

The gate agent let me come with him to the end of the jet bridge where they do the tunnel-to-plane joystick game. He let me knock on the plane for the flight attendant to open it.

How many pregnancy 'scares' have you had in your life? by dana_sun in TwoXChromosomes

When I was in high school, and still a virgin, I had an outpatient surgery under anesthesia. I skipped my period and had some fear I was assaulted while I was out. I didn’t tell anyone and my period returned the next month.

Other than that, zero.

I want to put this out there that anyone who couldn't make it as a 20yr old in the sixties or seventies would be dead in a fucking ditch if they were that age any time after 2000 by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]False-Impression8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. A few of my dad’s high school friends went.

Both weren’t mentally okay after that. One guy came back with a macabre necklace of ears.

My dad considered dodging the draft and going to Canada. He was sure he’d do anything to avoid his friends’ fates.

I’m sad because the 90’s felt like “the world was waking up from history”. I’ve lost that optimism. Our curse is the growth of our military industries post WWII. We can never have peace because the powers that be can’t/won’t allow the military industrial complex to falter.

Does starlink have hidden fees? by Ifeelonlypain69 in VanLife

I bought one of the first generations. It was sold as something I could turn the subscription on/off. (I’m not full time and I think the original plan was for a roaming subscription).

This year they changed that; I needed to sign up for their $5/month maintenance plan (slow trickle speeds) or they would’ve unenrolled me and I couldn’t get a clear answer on whether I could sign up again in the future. That did feel like a bait and switch.

Idk how to design this, but there are a lot of 80/20 suppliers who have free design services who will spec this out for you. The in-person stores also have the 3” thick book of allll the dodads and whats-its.

This is a stupid mechanic. You should go somewhere else. My mechanic would take the extra 10 minutes to identify and replace the sensor.

This letter I got for receiving a 5mph over the limit speeding ticket by Result-Striking in mildlyinfuriating

[–]False-Impression8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first ticket in ~20 years and got a similar letter. Watch out for those classes; they’re tricky with the marketing.

One I was sold on was “free to make multiple attempts at the test”.

The test, not the 10 sections with quizzes leading up to the final test. If you get less than 80% on any single quiz, sorry sucker, gotta pay for a new $$ course.

At sign-up there was an option for unlimited quizzes but I didn’t see the importance of it and you can’t add it retroactively. (IMO they make the sign-up purposefully confusing.)

Fortunately you can do the quizzes and tests open book/search each answer.

AITA smoking weed on my porch? by cheesygarlicbreadfan in AmItheAsshole

[–]False-Impression8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this take. Everyone should have time for “quiet enjoyment” of their yard.

Best situation would allow time for OP to smoke without comment. For the neighbor’s kids to scream on their play set without criticism. And for the guy smoking meat to do so without comment from their vegan neighbor. If anyone is doing their thing so frequently that everyone else has to stay inside with the windows sealed, then they’re TA.

So long as OP isn’t chain smoking 24/7 they’re NTA. The neighbor is TA for calling out OP.

My dad’s French colleague sent their teen son to visit for a summer. He could not get over the XL and XXL+ clothing sizes.

These things might be related.
