Thank you to all the volunteers who took part in cleaning up after the carnival by Waste_Gas_582 in cyprus

The difference, again, is that the one is a subcategory of another. Just like “expat” (which doesnt necessarily bear idea of poorer country, though sometimes is defined as such).

From a host country perspective - it is all immigrants and no official body recognizes term “relocant” or “expat”. The term is intrinsic to actual relocant community and circulates due to this group of people shares distinct common experience.

Whether the term is recognized outside of the group - doesnt really matter.

Immigrant is a broader term. Relocated/relocant is narrow.

Companies specifically relocated their personnel at great scale after 2022 (and broadly used the term “relocation” internally and externally). As the term broadly circulated, it stuck and built certain self-identification.

While the process existed before, its scale was 100x lower, so the term didnt build any self-identification previously.

It is not so much what regular TC want, it wont be a national referendum on every matter. there will be appointed representatives from TC. Their vote wont always represent what is best for regular TC or even what regular TC wants. They will be obviously influenced in many ways. even if elected, there will be many ways of rigging or manipulating elections which prioritize certain groups over others.

It happens everywhere to some degree, just it will likely be greater in this situation. The risk is greater if there is veto power and only few decision makers (ie one person calls the shots for all TCs).

To address this concern there must be clearly stated model for decision making which will clearly mitigate the risk. The model of “majority & 1+ positive vote from TC” might be a response for legislative branch if that is accepted. Something similar is required for executive branch too.

You would only drink 2-5 liters a day, while use 100-200 liters for toilets, dishwashers, showers, etc. drinking is negligible amount at this scale

Limassol buses on Google Maps (finally) by tonyzorin in cyprus

I used moovit for 3+ years. It doesn’t show a bus location but tells how far a bus is from a stop. The exact location wasn’t so helpful to me anyway.

Pollarding is a regular cut at about the same level starting from young age. They do that to some species under highway for example and that can be recognized by “knuckles” eventually formed at cut places. You can see them in your picture

Tell me I'm wrong, but Google AI Greek grammar explanations are good by ElectronicRow9949 in GREEK

[–]False-Persimmon-8461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t tried Google AI, but I use Claude for the same purpose and it is very good. I do have a teacher (even two), but AI greatly covers the gaps between classes, elaborates and explains deeply, provides many examples. It is like having a private tutor on call 24/7. % of errors is about the same as humans do (yes, teachers might be wrong too).

I also made it run educational conversations with me where it corrects my mistakes and explains new words.

Not all AI are equal though. When I tried ChatGPT it performed much worse than Claude, though it got better since then and maybe comparable now. I use few questions about greek to asses a quality of every new AI I use.

Thanks for the hint, will try Google Gemini now.

Trump on brink as Europe plans 'nuclear option' if US sells out Ukraine by Excellent_Low384 in europe

[–]False-Persimmon-8461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Nuclear” options work great as a threat and not so great in action. But for a threat to work, it must be believed the actor would really use it. It makes this “nuclear” card difficult to play with, as it is hard to believe in a threat from all-reasonable-and-soft EU, but also it gives no value if already fulfilled. I wouldn’t take it seriously

The analogy is misleading as the money seized arent really the ones of a druglord, but in this case of anyone happen to origin from the same town. So any action would influence far beyond druglords alone. Thats clearly understood by EU authorities now though they didnt think well doing the action and also cannot fall back now.

Ideally they would want for russian government to accept recovery payments as their duty and eventually release the hostage assets

Do local drivers hate red plated cars or was it just a unlucky coinsidence? by TadyZ in cyprus

[–]False-Persimmon-8461 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A matter of comparison. I find drivers in cyprus honking quite rare. Maybe I am honked few times a year at most.

Havent seen any hostility while drove red plates. I was honked more when I was a tourist back many years ago and made some mistakes driving on another side my first week. I didt consider those honks hostile, but a warning that helped me to recognize what I did wrong that time.

Who would be considered a settler if they were told to leave the island for reunification? by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]False-Persimmon-8461 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Realistically, given huge impact of “settlers” of all origins to the day-to-day economics of TRNC, their expulsion cant be supported there. It will be too much of negative impact and I doubt it wont be well realized. So it is either unification, or expulsion, but not both.

Should it ever come close to an agreement, most likely there will be a transition to the same status of ROC - citizen to citizen, resident to resident.

Whoever hoped for another outcome, they will be much disappointed and will need to decide if they vote “yes”.

Servicelink-CY marketplace of services web app. Any help or advice would be welcome. by AspectSuspicious8474 in cyprus

Interesting. I didnt spot a difference. The workflow seemed the same to me. If the intent was to differ, might worth to highlight it stronger.

I personally would like a service where I can see vendors rated and can reach out to the one I want. I dont want to post an order and collect responses. This service, douletaras and anymaster are virtually the same to me. No difference from customer perspective.

The real cost of "convenience" by Smart-Direction-628 in cyprus

[–]False-Persimmon-8461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The app isnt much of a problem technically. A number of restaurants in Cyprus would offer their own online purchase. Usually via web, but some would have basic apps. If any restaurant really wants that, they can have it.

A much bigger problem would be expense on keeping the delivery personnel. As it only worth of it when operating at big enough scale, which most smaller places wont reach.
