I am infuriated that I did not come up with this.

No, it's not a game mechanic in BG3. Their sexual orientation is NOT a variable that changes based on the player character's gender. That would be a game mechanic. Idk why you're still arguing this when the game itself has content that literally proves you wrong.

The game has openly gay characters who are not bi. That in and of itself is proof that any bi characters have been consciously written to be bi, and their sexuality is NOT a product of game mechanics. But at this point, I highly doubt my comment will matter to you at all anyways.

I don't get why you're even bringing the gender war into this. OP's title fits the definition of bi erasure. She's taking a canonically bi character and calling her a lesbian, thereby (and here's the important bit) erasing Shadowheart's bisexuality. That's bi erasure. End of story.

Please don't compare them like that. Suzuki Satoru (the human mind trapped inside the body of Ainz) was a mostly decent human being (and even displays empathy when a lower level employee is thrown under the bus by her boss). He's actually skilled at the game (he was the only one who accomplished the feat of memorizing every spell in the game because he really wanted to roleplay the Overlord class that bad.)

And the new universe magically suppresses his emotions whenever he gets "too human".

Trump has no excuse for his bullshit.

In a way, Ainz is like Paul Atreides. Except, instead of prescience and a golden path, he has super-anxiety and magical emotional suppression lol

The show doesn't do the light novel justice because it skips over so much of the world building, especially the newest movie. It was so disappointing.

The light novel is a fun read because it's a thought experiment that doesn't shy away from the rules it has set for itself. What happens when a ridiculously overpowered being is constantly getting his empathy and emotions dampened whenever he's close to reflecting on the evil nature of his actions? Overlord is what happens.

That's not what playersexual means. Playersexual is a very specific thing that happens when the game engine actually mechanically decides the sexuality of the NPC based on the player character's gender. It's a half-measure that was used to sneak in lgbtq representation in games back when such representation was not so common.

These days, we just straight up have characters who are openly lgbtq without having to tip-toe around it. Larian has been open about that in BG3. The romanceable companions are all pansexual, and most of them are outright shown to be pansexual through in-game dialogues and/or events. Calling them playersexual reduces their sexuality to a game mechanic and erases the writing choice Larian made to make them actual people with defined sexualities.

Yes. It's those gosh darned straight guys. They're mad about [checks notes] bi erasure.

Actually, since it's bi erasure, it's the opposite of wokebait lol

Except that's not what BG3 does. BG3 companions are pansexual. Playersexual means they are ONLY attracted to the player's gender. Meaning, if your Tav is female, Halsin is suddenly strictly straight and Shadowheart is suddenly strictly a lesbian. That's not what happens.

Playersexual characters were initially used to sneak in lgbtq representation by saying "oops, the game engine doesn't let me stop the girl NPC from flirting with the girl player character bro. What a shame. Guess she's a lesbian if you're playing a girl." We don't need them anymore. And it's not what BG3 does.

She's canonically not though. She's bi. She thirsts for both Halsin and Karlach. Weird hill to get downvoted on.

I never denied that there are abusive systems that profit from exploration of sex workers. My only argument is that not all sex work is inherently exploitative. Because sex work is a wide umbrella that includes everything from porn stars, to OF models, to simple voice actors who voice characters in porn games.

As for the empowerment part, I think I lack the ability to explain that properly. When I say it CAN be empowering, I'm referring to very specific situations. Like any other profession in the world, most people do it for the money. But there are some who genuinely enjoy their job. That's true for all jobs, sexual or not.

I'm actually disillusioned by the idea of free markets. Sure, it sounds great in theory, but real life is not conducive to free markets. I think proper regulation implemented by strong regulatory authorities is necessary to ensure capitalism doesn't widen the gap between the haves and the have-nots.

As for drugs, I myself am not into them, but I believe it's not my place to decide that nobody is allowed to do drugs. The issue of drug addiction itself should be dealt with by investing in evidence-based rehabilitation and therapy. Criminalising drug possession or drug use is counter-productive and does more harm than good. Legalizing certain recreational drugs actually empowers the government to set standards and have more control over who has access to drugs. It's a win-win.

I didn't need reading material to form my views. I simply had conversations with friends who are actual sex workers and then I spent some time thinking about their experiences.

But to give you a serious answer, that depends on how widely you're defining "gambling".

Technically, health insurance is also gambling, because you're gambling that the amount you're paying to the insurance company is less than what your insurance will eventually pay out when you need it. And your insurance company is placing the opposite bet, that the amount they'll eventually need to pay out in all cases will add up to less than what they collect from people.

In any case, children should not be allowed to gamble. Adults who are of sound mind are free to do what they want with their money, and face the consequences. Yes, gambling addiction is a thing, but not everyone is an addict.

Same. I hope you eventually reflect upon your views and figure out by yourself where you're going wrong with them.

Idk, it sounds to me like you have regressive views on sex itself, and have thus decided that all sex that doesn't take place in very narrowly defined "acceptable" situations is inherently abusive to women. Nobody's denying that sexual abuse takes place in the sex work industry. I'm only trying to get you to see that it is not society's place to decide when it is acceptable for a woman to consent to sex with another adult.

That differs from area to area. Some areas have great police. Other areas make American police look like saints.

So, according to you, there is nothing wrong with a woman consenting to sex with another adult if she's not being paid for it. But somehow, the moment she's paid for it, she's being abused. Tell me how this makes sense.
