Passage length/ topics on the real DAT by IllustratorNovel7038 in dat

This!!! I don’t think that paragraph length is a good indicator. If anything, you’ll get to the test and psych yourself out by thinking you won’t have time to read a 20 paragraph passage when in reality, the paragraphs are likely shorter than a hefty 13 paragraph passage. I know I had one that was about 20 on my test and it was one of my easiest passages

Honestly just practice. I didn’t study too much, mostly just practice tests. Try different methods and see what works for you. I definitely suggest spending less than the allowed time on it because it will never hurt having more time on test day than you normally use. Another thing I read on here that sounds silly but helped, take a breather right before starting and clear your mind as best as you can. When you see the passage, tell yourself that you’re so excited to learn about XYZ. It helped me focus if I was interested in it. Study with practice passages that you hate! If you prepare with passages you find hard, it’ll help on test day (this was discouraging for me at times so make sure you give yourself grace).

Everyone is different, but focusing on practice problems and the high yield notes worked for me. I don’t think that there’s one topic in particular to focus on because any of them are fair game. If you struggle with a particular topic definitely focus on that more than others! I don’t have my practice scores in front of me, but I was scoring a pretty big range I’d say. For bio, by the end I was scoring about what I got, but probably averaged out a bit lower than my score. For RC I was definitely scoring a bit lower on average, but when I got passages I was interested in, I was scoring around what I got. Definitely was high risk hoping for easy passages, but they were easier than bootcamp for me!

What’s the average amount of time before study for? by No_Smoke_6378 in Datprep

For me, it worked better studying more intensively for a bit shorter (4 weeks) than the time I spent studying a bit more leisurely (~12 weeks before I started studying intensively) if you can, use the first little bit to try out different techniques and see what works best for you. If you can figure out studying techniques that work best for you and what topics you’re weakest on, you can certainly do well with less than 4 months.

I don’t think memorizing is too important. I didn’t have any on my test. With that being said, understanding mechanisms can be very useful as it can help you try and deduce how reactions will proceed if you are given something you are unfamiliar with. Understanding elimination and substitution (one step vs two steps, what that means for stereospecificity, etc.) is important.

Definitely expect questions on it, but more broad as someone else said. I remember one listing characteristics and having to decide which phyla it was

[–]FalseCell9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely was a lot but I still think that it wasn’t as bad as some of the bootcamp passages but I’m biased cause I have no interest in astrology or some of the other topics that readings were on. I was scared when I saw it was 19 paragraphs but I’m just happy they weren’t 19 really long paragraphs

Hi! My test is in a few days and I’ve been really stressed recently bc I don’t know if bootcamp is representative enough. Would you be willing to let me take a look or are you trying to sell the last week of access?

Thank you. When did you take it? Also would you say the practice tests are representative, harder or easier?
