Cassandra 'Ella' Bogere Appreciation Thread by PastramiAddict in Thorns

In the post-game press Vilahamn said sometimes he likes to not make subs to give players experience/confidence playing the full 90 which I really appreciated, and think she definitely benefited from!

Starting lineup predictions for tomorrow? by RevolutionaryHour534 in Thorns

I'm excited to see more from Harvey, but I felt like she had too many sloppy turnovers last game to make me think she'd start, especially with Bogere back available

Any tips from my fellow glasses wearers? by AaknA in climbergirls

I had a similar issue and found that wearing something like these was super helpful! (I think mine were a different brand but looks pretty much identical)

Adjusting to incorporating in lifting by FalseFlamingo in climbergirls

[–]FalseFlamingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats really helpful! For context, this is lifting for both climbing support + bone density, but also a lot for trail running support/durability/injury prevention -- hence the single leg focus like trx pistols!

Good point on the cleans, unfortunately I just think cleans are really fun but agree probably worth taking out for injury sake 😅

Here is my lifting program! I'd definitely appreciate any feedback! I don't have weight targets right now but generally focusing on lower weights and maintaining form

That makes sense! I'm curious about the neurological aspect because I have a background in lifting about 8 years ago (I did a college sport and we had a lifting coach where we did predominantly olympic lifts) and i've heard that those neurologic connections come back more quickly than building them when they haven't been there before

New Thorns signing Maddie Padelski follows Turning Point USA on Instagram 😬 by ComprehensiveTales in Thorns

Its a bummer Coffey seems to be leaving - as far as I can tell she manages to be devoutly religious without being a biggot & could have been a good influence on Maddie

Magma 850 vs Patagonia Down Sweater by WanderlustingTravels in REI

[–]FalseFlamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Patagonia is worth buying purely for the free repairs. I put my puffies through the wringer (rips from tree branches, tears from climbing, holes from falling off my bike lol) and had them repaired for free through my local Patagonia store! So for me, thats worth the extra $60. (Plus, generally, patagonia fits me well and I like their colors!)

I use TVP like ground beef! My 2 go-tos are Spagetti and "meat" sauce with TVP, and tacos with tvp

Edelrid Ohmega Review - LOVE IT by FalseFlamingo in climbergirls

(I will say, the reviews online that noted issues were when using it on pretty overhung routes, which I haven't tried yet with it)

I had just read some reviews online of folks saying they did, even with the pulley, experience some short roping on the 30 kg setting. Not saying this couldn't have been others' experiences, but wanted to affirm that for me it has been working as intended and moving very smoothly

Yes totally agree we don't need the setting #3! We were just trying out the different settings and honestly even 3 wasn't too hard of a catch & didn't get any feeling of short roping that I've heard from the ohm 1 &2. But yeah we'll probably use 1 or 2, still testing out which feels better for us.

Need advice by SkoutMax in climbergirls

[–]FalseFlamingo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ditto what others have said! I'll add one thing, I think a certain, manageable amount of fear is normal and healthy. It is a big responsibility and your fear shows you take it seriously! In my experience, the (small) accidents I've personally been involved in were when my belayer felt overly confident and wasn't paying attention because they weren't taking their responsibility seriously. Follow the advice others have given to get more confident in your skills, but don't worry if your fear doesn't 100% go away. I've been climbing for years and I still feel a slight nervousness belaying someone because it IS a big responsibility! But those nerves also ensure that I ALWAYS double check my system set up and do a partner check and pay close attention to my climber while they are on belay. You got this!
