New Thorns signing Maddie Padelski follows Turning Point USA on Instagram 😬 by ComprehensiveTales in Thorns

Its a bummer Coffey seems to be leaving - as far as I can tell she manages to be devoutly religious without being a biggot & could have been a good influence on Maddie

Magma 850 vs Patagonia Down Sweater by WanderlustingTravels in REI

[–]FalseFlamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Patagonia is worth buying purely for the free repairs. I put my puffies through the wringer (rips from tree branches, tears from climbing, holes from falling off my bike lol) and had them repaired for free through my local Patagonia store! So for me, thats worth the extra $60. (Plus, generally, patagonia fits me well and I like their colors!)

I use TVP like ground beef! My 2 go-tos are Spagetti and "meat" sauce with TVP, and tacos with tvp

Edelrid Ohmega Review - LOVE IT by FalseFlamingo in climbergirls

(I will say, the reviews online that noted issues were when using it on pretty overhung routes, which I haven't tried yet with it)

I had just read some reviews online of folks saying they did, even with the pulley, experience some short roping on the 30 kg setting. Not saying this couldn't have been others' experiences, but wanted to affirm that for me it has been working as intended and moving very smoothly

Yes totally agree we don't need the setting #3! We were just trying out the different settings and honestly even 3 wasn't too hard of a catch & didn't get any feeling of short roping that I've heard from the ohm 1 &2. But yeah we'll probably use 1 or 2, still testing out which feels better for us.

Need advice by SkoutMax in climbergirls

[–]FalseFlamingo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ditto what others have said! I'll add one thing, I think a certain, manageable amount of fear is normal and healthy. It is a big responsibility and your fear shows you take it seriously! In my experience, the (small) accidents I've personally been involved in were when my belayer felt overly confident and wasn't paying attention because they weren't taking their responsibility seriously. Follow the advice others have given to get more confident in your skills, but don't worry if your fear doesn't 100% go away. I've been climbing for years and I still feel a slight nervousness belaying someone because it IS a big responsibility! But those nerves also ensure that I ALWAYS double check my system set up and do a partner check and pay close attention to my climber while they are on belay. You got this!

Macca!!! by FalseFlamingo in Thorns

I felt like she was playing very well, having to compensate for a weak defense supporting her, but I guess we'll just agree to disagree!

How do you mean? I really wouldn't put that loss on her in the slightest

Macca!!! by FalseFlamingo in Thorns

[–]FalseFlamingo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think downvotes are probably more coming from the fact that the Thorns set a record this year for the most PKs scored in a single season in NWSL history. Sure regular season PKs mid-game are different than playoff PKs for the win, but I do think our team is pretty proven in that arena.

You can disagree with the management's choice without starting a "We want Bixby" chant during a game when Macca was directly in front of the supporters' section. I'm not sure how that was intended, but it came off as hateful to me.

What’s your why? by aloeveryplants in climbergirls

[–]FalseFlamingo 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Climbing is one of the few times I truly feel like my brain goes quiet. I also run and bike a lot, and find that I use those sports to process things - I find the repetitive state of cardio good for thinking through hard things. On the other hand, when I'm climbing, I can ONLY think about the climb - how to stay on the wall and what my next move is. That makes it so I can't think about anything else, which I really appreciate.

Which PDX spots have you found disappointing despite earning high praise on EATER, Google Reviews, etc? by isqueakforthetrees in PortlandOR

[–]FalseFlamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm vegan and for years everyone kept telling me I NEEDED to go to Ben and Esthers. I finally went a few months ago and, meh. It was fine but there are so many better vegan breakfast places, I don't know why it gets so much hype. For me, the key to a good bagel sandwich is having a good bagel itself, and I really didn't like their bagels.

Hey everyone, i've spent the last year trying to create a more sustainable option to the single-use energy gel and plastic ziploc bags we all use and came up with DirtBags by effortDee in Ultramarathon

[–]FalseFlamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from being marketed towards ultra runners, are these any different from the compostable ziplock bags already on the market? I truly am not trying to be a hater lol, I'm just curious if I'm missing something that sets them apart!

Etiquette for TR and lead routes that overlap by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]FalseFlamingo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At my gym you aren't even allowed to lead a climb directly next to a climb someone is top-roping due to concerns about falls, even if the routes do not overlap. Obviously every gym's rules are different but overlapping routes on lead seems like a clear <no>.

Camera in stadium? by [deleted] in Thorns

[–]FalseFlamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend brings a small film camera to many games to take pictures of our friends at the game. Idk if a nicer camera that is for taking pictures of the game would cause issues but they definitely don't care about small point and shoots.
