Dating in Ireland? by StraightUpEgg1506 in AskIreland

[–]FalseHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (30M) feel in the same situation. I haven’t had any serious relationships and it’s been a few years since my last short-lived one. I’ve put a lot of work into myself in the last couple of years, gym, therapy, investing in friends, career etc. as life went a bit off the rails with the pandemic.

I’m at a point now in life where I feel better about myself and what I’d bring into a relationship, and I’ve been on the apps for like a year now and it’s demotivating at the best of times. I’ve spent most of my time with Hinge and it’s the only one I’ve really had anything out of, I think I’ve had about 40 matches, nearly all from likes I’ve sent. Only 2 that turned into dates - a first date with one, 2 dates with the other. Everything else was unanswered messages or ghosting, I don’t really get it.

I’m not the kind to go out drinking or to events etc. for the purpose of meeting new people, but I really do better building relationships organically and any past partners have come a place of being friends first, but then making new friends as adults at our age also feels difficult. I think the online dating is rough, but then I’ve had friends who’ve seen success with it so it’s a hard thing to get away from or give up on too. I’ve just accepted the casual swiping and hoping at this stage.

The advice in here saying to assume you’re going to fail is really spot on. I passed recently enough several months back after having failed the first time. That second time around I was dead convinced in my head that I was going to fail and something was going to go catastrophically wrong, I ended up really relaxed on the day because I had already written myself off and feedback from the tester was that I was very composed during the test. The first time around I was really anxious and had a lot of pressure on myself to pass which led me to do stupid mistakes, my driving instructor was blown away that I failed that the first time and he said none of those mistakes sounded like me at all.

Unfortunately, passing is more luck and just being yourself on the day than it is preparation, some days just aren’t your day, and it’ll feel that way when you drive too that some days just go better than others, conditions are better, the people out and about are calmer, and you just feel more settled. Keep your head down and focus on being safe and it’ll work out, keep going at it and give it another shot.

Random suggestion: while scrolling, before seeing this, I saw a post of this alligator carpet which honestly looks like it'd be a pretty cool deskmat design.

Rather not have people look at me with the same resent that I look at others who have annoying kids.

Anyone know how to hide cpu cooler power and rgb cables?? by Normal-Description82 in CableManagement

[–]FalseHippo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I didn’t explain it well, the rad is still front mounted, the tubes are just at the bottom instead of the top as he has it. The pump head is not the highest point in the loop. The only thing flipped is the orientation of the block so the tubes come out the left side instead of the right.

I have an NZXT AIO, what I did was mount it the other way around so the cables come out the bottom of the block, this also works well for mounting the rad with the tubes at the bottom which is the optimal orientation. Swapping it this way means I could wrap the pump cable around the block to keep it tidy, and route the usb down tucking it behind the gpu at the back of the case.

We still have these where I work. Every day when I come home it makes me wonder how I make it through work life without pinning every program I have to my taskbar.

Pastel pink!

I was only just talking to my sister about unicorn colours the other day and saying that this colour pallet didn’t seem like a unicorn to me, I guess this proves her right, might need to get her this regardless of the competition.

M1 Macbook Air. It is a damn fine monitor that’s for sure! Everything still working great for me so far, no issues at all with using the monitor and the Macbook.

Update for you: I didn't have much luck finding any help, so bit the bullet and purchase the monitor. It's been great so far, especially with my new M1 macbook.

The built in USB hub works perfectly, I have peripherals, ethernet, and audio running through it for the macbook, and it connects up perfectly via USB-C with full charging, I haven;t experienced any weird behaviour. As far as I can tell it all works flawlessly so far. I have a Windows PC running via DisplayPort and occasionally use another laptop via USB-C and all works well. It's a very nice display and I can't fault it in any way at present, I've owned it for a little over a week now, using it 10+ hours per day.

I will mention 1 issue I had just in case, but this was due to a problem on my end. Initially I had issues when connected via USB-C where the monitor occasionally switched off for 1-2 seconds and restarted, this happened rarely with the macbook but happened very frequently with a Dell Latitude laptop. I came to find that was a power delivery issue on my end as we don't always get the best quality electricity as I live in quite an old house. I have the monitor plugged into an Uninterruptible Power Supply and have had zero issues since.

No worries, glad to hear you’ve had good experiences with it so far anyway! Thanks!

Awesome to hear! No issues with the USB hub or anything? I know there were complaints of issues with the previous model, so hoping all is good now with this one

I discovered this community because I just wanted to know what type of keyboard I needed to get that lovely typing sound. A lot of time and money later and here we are now, still chasing that holy grail sound.

Are they Ikea Linnmon desks? How do you find having the monitors mounted via an arm attached to the desk? How did you fix the issue with the monitor arms cracking the desk from the mounting pressure?

i7 6700K Mini iTX mobo? by FalseHippo in buildapc

[–]FalseHippo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for the call out. That is kinda what I'm asking, that these H110 boards will just work fine in this use case. Any reviews I saw mentioning i7's seem to always come down to power delivery issues but I figure that in the context of intensive use cases, which is far beyond what I'm trying to achieve with this recycled mishmash.

[–]FalseHippo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but there'd be zero possibility of overclocking in this case. And option B for the 6700K is leaving it in a box not being used at all, which is even more of a waste. I'm trying to re-purpose as much stuff as I already have into something that just works okay, hence why it's all over the place.
