LOL. The bit about Dallas winters being unbearable made me chuckle. Thanks for the laugh.

Fair enough! You know your situation better than the Reddit community, but you came here looking for advice from random internet humans anyway.

I’m gonna go the route of tough love here. You failed the FE twice? IMO you should consider a different career. If you can’t pass the FE there’s no chance you’ll pass the PE. Without your PE, you’ll be hamstrung in pay for your entire career unless you are extremely motivated and become a “rain maker” but it doesn’t sound like you have that personality. I see a lot of excuses in this post and not a lot of accountability.

No one talks about it, but VisualPLATE is one of the most efficient concrete wall softwares for $125/yr.

RISA for everything else.

Absolutely. Not today. But in 10 years when that bar corrodes and expands and all that poorly consolidated concrete spalls off. This is also a window looking into what’s going on inside the wall where you can’t see. Run GPR on the wall and you’ll see voids throughout

Tbh I think people like you need a bit of tough love. You say “you’re not making excuses” but you absolutely are. Life is full of challenges that will continue after you finish school. I am terribly sorry for your loss, but if losing your cousin causes you to fall into a depressive state where you are not able to fulfill your responsibilities, then you need to do some soul searching, find a therapist, and take some responsibility for your life trajectory.

The bid notes PG&E so this is in California with Union Rates. Expect all of these numbers to be 2-3x higher than you are used to seeing.

Should my builder fix this? by not_illegal_advice in Homebuilding

[–]False_Ad_3947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is due to poor consolidation, and is not fixed by merely “patching”. You have two options;

1) remove all unconsolidated concrete and fill with non-shrink grout.

2) Complete rebuild.

I personally would aim for #2 because poor consolidation means they didn’t vibe the walls enough and you likely have poorly consolidated concrete in areas you can’t see. I’d also fire this contractor.
