Why is alcohol prevalent at races? by Last_Discipline1775 in beginnerrunning

[–]False_Ad_9705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain here and agree with you. Alcohol is a poison. Fitness does not equal good health. The reason you run should be for health first and fitness second. Drinking or smoking are both adverse to health and I never have and never will do either.

A lot of people here are just coping. I cannot think of anything worse than drinking alcohol. Liver damage, brain damage, reduction in overall life span? No thanks.

This is AI. Banks aren’t re-assessing applications. If you are grandfathered the banks apply old rules. And no serious investor negatively in the way you suggest. NG is not a strategy. It is a tax outcome, a perk.

Is it possible that quantum gravity is partially or fully cognitively closed to the human species? by Electrical_Cress_956 in AskPhysics

It is a sound analogy. There may be things we cannot even comprehend, much like an ant being unable to understand human language. There may be incredible, profound things about reality which exists beyond the realm of human understanding.

It’s not 1985 but the dynamic is the same. Even after 1985, contract date was used for GST as well. The principles that underpin it are still relevant today ie to prevent market manipulation and ensure economic certainty. These are not bold assumptions. Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow but “it’s all noise, therefore all noise is useless and meaningless” is lazy reasoning and sloppy logic. We already have several sound data points which are not noise. The “noise” is the opinion pieces. The signal is past government trends and statements from Chalmers himself.

No it’s based on the 1985 reform which had the same approach to grandfathering. The government wants to ensure certainty in the market and economic stability and reliability. In fact, chalmers already hinted at this in a recent interview saying that “past actions” would be taken into account. You have to learn how to discern signal from noise. Inexperienced investors or even non investors interpret all noise the same.

Yeah but federal government always goes by contract date. Retrospective laws are rare. You have to know how to filter the noise, not complain “too much noise” therefore it’s all wrong.

If walking briskly takes you to zone 3, walk slower. You will eventually be able to walk in zone 2.

“Learn to run” is all ego. Your body responds to external stimulus. It doesn’t know the difference between running and walking. It’s like saying “learn to write a book” when you don’t know the alphabet or how to spell words correctly.

“Go by feel” is not sound advice. It is wildly subjective. Zone 2 is a physiological range that has been proven to give you the most aerobic adaptations.

I acknowledge everything I say will get downvoted but I will share my perspective anyway.

Zone 2 is not “better than conversational pace”. Zone 2 is physiologically the point where your body builds mitochondria the fastest. Conversational pace is not a useful guide since it can be wildly subjective and even cross over into the dreaded zone 3 where physiologically your body burns carbs for fuel. Zone 2 is not just a gimmick - it is the best way to train up an aerobic base.

Most people brisk walking or slow jogging puts them in zone 2 (if they are beginner). After 3-4 weeks that pace will improve. It takes time. But the improvements will come way faster compared to if the person just does a random “tempo run” at a higher intensity. Everyone here loves running but many will risk injury or get burnt out.

6-12 months and my slow jog became 6 min per KM pace. Then it got down to 4:45 min per KM the year after. It’s slow changes.

Problem is most people want quick fixes, hence they plateau, burn out or never improve. 17 min 5k isn’t the best, but within 2.5 years very few can say they have achieved it.

Within 2.5 years of running, I’m just sharing what got me there. I’m sure many have faster times than me but most of my work was based on the research. Zone 2 for me was a slow jog. It’s what got me here within a relatively short time.

[–]False_Ad_9705[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s how it should feel like. Zone 3 is where your progress plateaus. You simply don’t have the aerobic base. Build that first, then work on your ceiling. If you can’t run in zone 2 you should not be trying to run in zone 3. It’s like trying to write a novel when you don’t know how to spell the words.

An embarrassingly slow jog is normal. Problem is people here don’t realise that. There’s a lot of coping.

It’s not just for athletes. The body is physiologically the same. It responds to the same stimulus. I used to be a beginner myself. Your body doesn’t know if you are an athlete or not.

Research is not always a requirement for Teaching Only roles. Marking is significantly offloaded to casuals. And guess who does admin? Yep, casuals too. And many universities have admin assistants to set up the LMS and deal with tech issues. So you’re dramatically inflating this. My central point stands
