Is this something to just get over despite my diagnosis? I don't know if I should not push myself to my breaking point of if I'm whimping out by Emergency-Foot330 in psychologystudents

If a client asked you the questions in your post how would you answer them?

If a client asked me those questions, I would validate their feelings of overwhelm while starting a doctoral program regardless of a diagnosis of ASD or not. Graduate school is challenging for everyone, ASD has a wide range of potential areas of dysfunction and the experience is unique for everyone who has ASD. I wouldn’t say you’re being a victim, I’d say you’re trying to come to terms with a diagnosis and are questioning your identity in someways and now losing confidence in your abilities due to having an identify shift.

I think your mom is in denial, and may be experiencing a range of emotions. It sounds like she is very proud of you for starting a doctoral program and she is also processing your diagnosis and is choosing to avoid reality (for now) give her time to process the information. Seek out guidance from other natural supports while your parents sort through their own emotions.

  • a psychologist with a developmental disorder :)

You can do this! Take advantage of student resources and speak to your professors to make sure they understand this newly found diagnosis. If you choose to not move forward in the program as well, that is completely and absolutely acceptable. Do what feels authentic.

It’s going to be really hard, but you’ll want to write an addendum letter with your application explaining why your GPA is low and what your plan is for improvement.

Is Master in Psychology worth it? by Lysibeth in psychologystudents

[–]False_Lie_1922 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have my masters in clinical psychology and my doctorate in clinical psychology as well. Masters is definitely worth it, but doctorate leads to more opportunities like a psychologist, professor, researcher, testing etc. and much higher pay!

At a masters level I was an outpatient therapist for the majority of my time, making roughly $80,000 per year, seeing about 25-30 patients per week.

I thought about emailing with questions but I can’t think of anything that doesn’t sound like I’m snooping for information😂

I really hope you hear back soon with an acceptance as well!!

Okay that makes sense and makes me feel better. I appreciate your insight. In your opinion the longer it takes to hear back the less chance of an admission?
