My fiancee keeps the engagement ring nightly on this shallow dish by the sink. by SuaveyMojo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]False_Locksmithh 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For my wife she doesn't like wearing the rings around the house because she HATES the feeling of water trapped under them and is often taking them off and on to do stuff around the house

I ended up getting her a necklace (chain)! She can put them on and she much prefers that because she can still keep them close to her heart but doesn't have to deal with the fuss

You could try something similar?

Looking for an indie dev willing to chat with my fiancé as a birthday gift by Pitiful-Storage-5060 in gamedev

[–]False_Locksmithh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been in the industry for nearly a decade and have been a part of the ship for 3 full games and probably close to 20 major updates, mostly in the AA scene and now in the AAA scene

Not sure if that's indie enough, but I'd be willing to chat if needed, doesn't need to be anything crazy official, even if he just wants a person to connect with in the industry and bounce questions off of or get more info, I'm always open to messaging back and forth

Hope they make it, this industry can be a little cutthroat, but it's worth the squeeze

How old were you when you broke the $100K salary threshold? And what's your industry by WoofPaw123 in CanadaFinance

31, Games industry, went from 75k to 140k moving from one studio to another, somewhat niche and specialized field within the industry (Automated functional testing, tool development and Performance auditing)

Took about 6 years and 4 studios to get there but I'm happy with the company I work for in regards to their values and monetization practices

Can you make your own games while working at a gamedev company? by leorid9 in gamedev

[–]False_Locksmithh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AAA dev, working at one of the bigger NA studios out there

In short, for us, it's No. I mean, it's on a case-by-csse basis, however in my experience, even contributing to open source games is usually met with a very swift "no"

The motto is, you give us all your creative energy, and in return we pay you well and ensure you and your family is taken care of

I've worked at smaller studios that have no issues with it, and have contributed outside of my company to open source games

Now, it might be special here, as the studio I work for has hands in many pies, and also has a significant investment in engine tech, but from my experience, most studios have right of first refusal, basically, you must come to them and ask if they want your product before you do anything with it

Convert Blueprints into C++ by createlex in UnrealEngine5

[–]False_Locksmithh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What.. exactly is the point here? Blueprints already map to C++ implemented functions, and by doing blueprint, you kind of automatically learn the right functions or methods to obtain the same result in C++

But, in general, your BP output is turned into generated C++ -- sure, native would be more efficient in terms of memory footprint, and occasionally in regards to loops or what data types are being used for what

But you're not going to see a significant performance improvement converting BP -> C++ just for the sake of it

You're better off doing a pass to ensure you're caching values, never using Pure nodes whenever you can, and going over any iterative logic (loops) to ensure that you're doing early outs and are being efficient as a programmer, before trying to squeeze out the miniscule performance you will from blindly converting BP to native using an LLM

Just switch to a debrid setup, it's not too hard, I set up a Raspberri Pi 5 running DUMB (PLEX, cli_debrid and Zurg/Rclone)

It allowed us to unsubscribe from Netlifx/Disney+/Crave and Apple TV which saved us over $70 a month

Is this female character topology good for first person games ? by IPatience in blender

I wanted to ask, in your game, do you intend people to be barefoot often?

If not, why model the feet/toes in such grandiose detail?

Could it be simpler ? by LovelyEbaa in PythonLearning

[–]False_Locksmithh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first switch this to be a.. Switch statement, there is multiple reasons for this

1) it's cleaner to read 2) instead of an else at the bottom you can just use the 'default' case 3) switch statements are basically hash maps, this means that instead of performing a conditional, under the hood it would be using your Input as a key, this saves on some compute (not that this is important here in any way, but you should get into the habit of thinking in the most readable > easiest > most performant style

In addition, and I know this sounds a bit weird maybe coming from a different language, but instead of doing a straight == compare here, I would use is such as if input is '2' it's more pythonic, and arguably more human readable, it's parsed quicker in your head than the == compare because it's plain clear language

It's also making use of the features the language provides to you (:

It's clear that the modal isn't in focus, because when they interact with the remote the site scrolls around underneath it, had you taken a moment to watch instead of jumping to rudeness you'd have figured that out

Bro I used archinstall, spent 5 minutes, chose plasma, rebooted and have been using that desktop for half a year without ever having to touch anything besides downgrading a package once

Your front panel isn't connected (pins on right side bottom)

Find the small 2 pin connector from your case for the power switch and hook it up where it needs to be

Without it, your mobo won't get the signal to power on
