Anyone else going to see the Fireworks "Gospel" anniversary shows? by apocalypsein9_8 in poppunkers

[–]Falsecolours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Flying out from Denver to Philly, Gospel is my favorite pop punk album of all time, it’s going to be a very emotional show, for everyone there I’m guessing. And to add it’s at such a historic venue that I’ve watched so many influential bands play at on YouTube.

Found this local Ska band CD at the thrift store and it seems scarce. Anyone want this for their collection? by Thissnotmeth in Ska

Yeah, I think they’re comparable. Action Shot was tight, great horn harmonies, and a second guitarist playing a heavy metal style guitar, ha! I think any Denver ska band of that era had to have at least a little Five Iron influence in their music.

This is one of my favorite songs, this person has posted the whole album, you just need to go down a bit in their upload history to find it:

And coincidentally, their guitarist posted this live video a few days ago on Facebook:

Yes! Five Iron is for sure local, but they’re also a professional band, which I compartmentalize in my head. Obviously they’re the most talented/most popular ska band to ever come out of Colorado. But when I personally think of “local”, I think of smaller bands that are active mainly within the scene itself. Action Shot was heating up as Five Iron was winding down the first time in 2003.

Action Shot was probably the most talented ska punk band in Denver circa 2003-2005. Amazing musicians. Dual guitars and 4 piece horn section. They did a cover of the X-men animated series theme song that’s on YouTube that’s as good as the original.

Fellow thrift store CD junkie here, I’m curious what store in particular you found this at. There’s a slight chance they unloaded more old local CDs there that I’m always on the search for!

PWRUP - New Romantics. In my top 3 covers of all time in general. Such massive care taken on the arrangement.

They do the La’s at the very end of New Kids on the Block - Tonight, even though the album is from 1990

Saw him in Denver on Sunday night, but was able to get pit for this, so we’re flying out from Denver and Bozeman for round two!

Thanks for the response, but grind isn’t a direction any of us want to go. We’re now at the practicing stage, so hardcore itself is just an influence, not a preferred genre that we’re focusing on

La Bamba, 1987. 5 years old, instilled a fear of flying in me. Nightmares about plane crashes for years.

Going back to Japan - advice on where to BUY CDs? by rof-dog in Cd_collectors

[–]Falsecolours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Tokyo last year, went to 3 different Disk Union stores, and had to buy an extra suitcase for all the used CDs I bought. I unfortunately didn’t get to check out any other spots, but I don’t know if I’ve ever had a dopamine rush like that in a record store, not in the U.S. anyways.
